The Lamborghini - Dacia Comparison

Out of curiosity and interest, I often browse through the flops on Parfumo.

From time to time, I know the fragrances, while others I discover in the drugstores of the country.

Such is the case with Seven - the scent of a brand that appears multiple times in the flop 25.

And as so often, after testing, I can only shockingly shake my head:

The scent is okay. Citrusy, somewhat sweet. As pleasant as any other generic 0815 drugstore fragrance in the price range up to €15. Like 90% of the well-groomed men I meet on the train during the week.

But one question continues to bother me:

"Why are such fragrances so condemned?".

I love this forum. Its members and all the life they infuse into this construct of 0s and 1s...

However, many here do not evaluate inexpensive fragrances fairly, simply because they are cheap and from the wrong brand.

I would bet a MfK that this scent would be rated at least 7.0 in a niche bottle.

A bit like wannabe wine connoisseurs who would drink colored brackish water if only the right name were printed on it.

Solid scent, absolutely inconspicuous, completely interchangeable - But not yuck! Or am I perhaps just tasteless?

By the way, the bottle is really nice. Glass, black, simple with chrome lettering.

Everything as Expected

After I enjoyed the eccentric representatives of our beautiful niche world in Munich yesterday, today it was time for something quite, well I almost want to use this harsh expression, mundane: a fragrance named after a well-known movie character, and accordingly marketed.

The signs were therefore anything but promising, a fragrance launched simultaneously with a movie premiere and whose predecessor left much to be desired.

Rarely have I laughed so much after sniffing while looking at the fragrance pyramid. Here we have mandarin, cinnamon, saffron, amber, vanilla, and leather... all ingredients that I hold in the highest esteem. And how are they (not) implemented here?

Oh you wonderful mandarin, how much I adore you in Amyris by Maison Francis Kurkdjian or in Acqua di Parma's Colonia Intensa Oud.

Ah you powerful cinnamon, that you soar into heavenly realms in MariaLux Mogadess.

My beloved saffron, in so many creations you show your most noble side, like in Armani Privé's Oud Royal, Oud Velvet Mood by MFK, Dries van Noten par Frédéric Malle, or Glamorous Aoud by Philly & Phill.

Where are you my dear amber, as I have come to appreciate you in XerJoff's Amber Star or Montale's Blue Amber?

What has become of the enchanting vanilla, as it was implemented in Byredo's Seven Veils?

Where is the leather note that I admire in so many fragrances, I can't even list them all from Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather to Cuir Fauve by Keiko Mecheri, Cuir Blanc by Evody, or Cuir Beluga by Guerlain?

Of course, one does not expect such quality from a fragrance in this price range, but when notes like saffron appear, I at least expect a bit more from the scent, as it consciously or unconsciously aligns itself with a certain tradition.

The result is, let's not kid ourselves, even if we approach the fragrance realistically and want to describe it, a sobering one. This sweetness might be comparable to Eros by Versace, both are fragrances that scream for a scathing review, and scream sweetly. There too, it is the apple that makes the fragrance a testament to poverty.

Added to this is the nonexistent longevity and the even fortunately absent sillage. Very briefly at the beginning, the fragrance is indeed intensely strong for a few minutes, but then it disappears into nothing, which only means that the alcohol content is very high and the fragrance oil concentration is abysmally weak.

To speak harshly: A bit of alcohol with aroma. A fragrance that James Bond, if offered to him, would surely leave standing, shaken not stirred.

My Love for Bond - My Hate for SEVEN

As one of the biggest Bond fans ever, I have probably seen every film in the series at least 5 times. I like "Quantum" from this series. It has a nice leathery touch and - although it doesn't last excessively long - it can be worn well if you don't want to spend much money but still want to smell good.

This weekend, while I was getting a refill of my signature dream fragrance "La Nuit de l'Homme," I happened to grab the new scent from the 007 line. ... And this very fragrance came to me, one that I hate in some men's scents. This incredible, unbearable sweetness. I had to immediately wash my hands to still be able to smell my Yves Saint Laurent. Such an extreme sweetness can lead to headaches. Like a wine that is too sweet.

I also don't know any Bond actor to whom this scent would suit. I'm really sorry, but it's just not for me.
