The White Sultan: Oriental-Baroque
A floral-powdery opening. The musk penetrates directly from bottom to top and remains dry and dusty.
"Sultan Oud Men" is accessible to the West, without any major barn-like nuances, which only appear subtly and nuanced. It clearly has an oud character, but the musk makes it seem rather clean-floral with woody elements. For me, it is a bit too "musk bothersome".
"Sultan Oud Men" also includes accents of resins and balsamic herbs, which, however, remain far in the background. Behind the curtain, vanilla and amber emerge, giving the whole a certain ambient quality.
In the later stages, spicy patchouli appears as a more prominent player, highlighting an earthy component. The overall composition leans more towards the feminine.
It is evident that we are dealing with synthetics, but at a successful level. For the low price, it is relatively well made by Jeanne Arthes. Not that it smells particularly high-quality, but it is a well-constructed cheapie, at least for lovers of such a fragrance direction. For me personally, the presentation of the musk in connection with the type of vanilla poses a certain obstacle.
