Another Amber...
Ambre Premier opens with a relatively dull spiced orange citrus with an early taste of the much more substantial amber to come. As the fragrance enters its early heart the relatively sweet amber builds in intensity until it is easily the star of the fragrance now supported by the remnants of the early mild spice and dark warm rose. As the development reaches the late dry-down the amber remains the star, with the dark rose and dull spice dissipating but never completely fading. Fairly sanitized patchouli joins the quite linear progression late, giving a slightly earthy vibe to the amber through the end. Projection is above average and longevity is outstanding at just over 12 hours on skin.

Ambre Premier is a pretty linear fragrance as so many others in the amber genre tend to be. It is pretty much amber early, amber late and amber in-between. The solely starring amber is somewhat sweet, but never close to being cloying. The mild supporting spices used are extremely well-blended, as picking out individual notes is near impossible (to this reviewer at least). The rose that plays a key supporting role as the fragrance reaches its heart is not the kind of floral rose you expect would stand out, but rather a warm, blunted kind that is clearly meant to provide additional warmth to the amber rather than call attention to its typical floral aspects. The bottom line is this is a very good 3.5 star out of 5 amber composition that achieves its objective; but its linear nature and near sole amber focus just does not set it apart from other equally (and some even more) competent amber compositions on the market for similar or less money than its $180 per bottle price tag. Recommended to amber composition lovers for at least a sniff.

A beautiful spicy amber that is very different from typical amber scents.
Ambre Premier is a sweet and herbaceous amber from Jovoy. It is devoid of the typical notes that notes that accompany amber such as tobacco, honey, leather and woody notes. Michelle Saramito, whom I have never come across before, is the perfumer behind Ambre Premier. Rightly or wrongly, I always sense the invisible hands of François Hénin, the founder of Jovoy, at work behind every Jovoy perfume. This review was originally based on a sample atomizer from Jovoy, but it has been updated after I got a full bottle from Jovoy online.

Spices, candied orange, rose, amber, patchouli, musk and vanilla are the notes listed on Jovoy’s website for Ambre Premier. The candied orange and spices enter very strongly in the opening. The spice notes not detailed in-depth could include one or more of clove, menthol, and eucalyptus and angelica according to my nose, though you are welcome to add yours. This spicy herbaceous opening resembles Tiger Balm with candied orange added to it. These opening notes are unusually long-lived on my skin. Rose, the only heart note listed, is too mild to detract us from the spicy medicinal opening. However, it adds a lovely color to the candied orange. The rose and the candied orange produce a delicate gourmand character in the heart notes. This personality makes Ambre Premier a very unusual amber perfume, or not an amber at all for some noses. The base notes and dry down are stronger on my skin than similar perfumes. The end notes become more amber-like with a light touch of vanilla and musk. This amber is more resin than vanilla, and I think it is a combination of frankincense and benzoin with some herbaceous qualities. I don’t see much patchouli on my skin, though it is detectable on clothes and paper strips. The bottom notes have a lovely endearing personality.

I liked the performance of Ambre Premier on my skin. It is not monstrous, but very appropriate for an amber fragrance. It lasts 6-8 hours on my skin with good sillage in the first few hours. It is suitable for use in an office setting, provided you use it judiciously.

Ambre Premier is an unusual amber perfume, very distinct from typical amber fragrances. The strong spicy candied orange imparts a unique personality to Ambre Premier. I recommend Ambre Premier as an affordable high-quality spicy amber. But don’t expect a heavy incense and vanilla with leather and tobacco. It is a smoother amber with sweet herbaceous ending. The 15 ml size bottle is still a good buy, even if you have other amber perfumes.

Making Memories
This is cutting up orange slices and adding them to a boiling pot of water and sugar. Once the slices are candied, to the point where you can even eat the peel, you take them out to dry on a rack. Then they are lightly dusted with baking spices. This feels like visiting my nephews on the holidays and showing them how to make a special seasonal treat, making memories that they will cherish forever. Its a delectable gourmand that isn't cloyingly sweet.

This fragrance has good projection, it created a delectable scent bubble around me. This fragrance lasted about 8 hours on my skin. There are two sizes available starting at 5ml for $29 and 100ml for $200. Fair warning, the fragrance lightly stained my skin so it will definitely stain white clothing.

Sweater Weather
MFK Grand Soir used to be my favorite cuddly, cozy, sweater weather amber fragrance, but this has dethroned it. In most ways it's the same, but for me it's just simply better. Smoother, richer, more robust. Very enjoyable. It's almost as if my nose does a little celebration when I put this on. Very enjoyable.

A floral-citric-amber. Spicy citric notes combined with soft, smooth amber underneath. The rose is 'jammy.' Enjoyable, but I prefer others.

Generic spicy Amber, smooth&versatile without so much sweetness. Citrus in the opening is not for me. Like a little cousin of Ambre Sultan.
