Actually, I didn't plan to write anything about this fragrance at all.
I was way too disappointed! Initially...
Long on my wish list, an absolute must-test, fragrance notes 100 points...
Praline, Tonka, Amber! What could possibly go wrong?
Moreover, it’s from the overly sweet candy brand Juicy Couture, which is now venturing into niche... But surely it’s still typically Juicy, quite sweet, quite gourmand, overall just more grown-up and probably a cozy amber dream....
When it finally became available in Germany, I started a sharing and was mega excited! Huge anticipation!
The more it disappointed me, probably.
No gourmand... no praline... absolutely no sweetness... and worst of all: Oud!
Where does this damn, completely mismatched Oud come from? *Dreams shattered*
But it’s not that animalistic barnyard Oud, but the dry, bitter, woody...
Good for men to wear.
Going in the direction of DUA's "Café oud".
What nonsense did those American YouTube ladies talk about?
Where is the "mhhmm ahhh such a delicious gourmand! ... "?
Where is the promised "boozy", "chocolate" and so on?
Such a stupid bit.. ! :(
- BUT NOW IT COMES -
When I got and tested Majestic Woods, there was an absolute heat wave going on. At least 30 degrees daily and unbearable in the top floor of my apartment. You sweat without doing anything.
Now, after the worst weather, continuous rain, floods, it’s around 20 degrees at most.
I wanted to take a few photos of the bottle today. I sprayed it on my arm again and thought:
" Huh? What's that? Is it delicious, bit.. ? "
Suddenly I can smell what the YouTubers were talking about.
Majestic Woods smells much more pleasant, warming, and cozy compared to the first tests.
And above all!... After chocolate!
" Yeaaahhhiii...! Uhhh... " *squeal*
But it’s not a gourmand fragrance in that sense.
No pure, distinctly noticeable chocolate.
More like a dark, Belgian praline melted with warm wood and amber.
It’s a "boozy", only slightly sweet amber/Ambroxan scent with great tonka bean.
The tonka bean is classically "deep"... by that I mean vanilla-like, slightly sweet, and slightly bitter! Not artificially overly sweet as it sometimes is.
Maybe it’s this bitterness that I mistakenly identified as Oud. I don’t know. But I still believe there’s dry woody Oud in it! Which doesn’t bother if you don’t like it otherwise.
You also think of a fireplace... a cold winter day, snuggled up in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa. Or a crackling campfire in the dark. Invitingly romantically warming. Roasting a few marshmallows...
By the way, Juicy Couture is compared among others to "By the Fireplace".
Whether that’s true, I can’t judge.
It’s listed here as a women’s fragrance. But I find it absolutely unisex!!!
So WARNING!
"Majestic Woods" hate it hot....
Test this fragrance especially in cooler temperatures. Only then does it really unfold and show its true beauty!
Personally, it could be a bit more gourmand, but I like it now! What a surprise.
The longevity is relatively high. It stays noticeable all day long. But never too intrusive or too loud. It’s more cuddly and enveloping.
I can’t say much about the sillage. I think it’s good, but not room-filling.
The bottle is, of course, a feast for the eyes and looks high-quality.
The great outer packaging was also inspired by niche fragrances ;) After all, it’s stylish to have a heavy box lined with black velvet inside.
Have fun testing.
