A Polynesian vacation in a bottle

The first few minutes are like being wreathed in a fresh lei. After 15 minutes, the coconut begins to comes forward. I need to be careful and not apply this like Vanilla Vibes, because this fragrance projects! And the longevity is considerable. Over wear time, the ambroxan and musk base provides warmth. The vanilla is there, hiding within the coconut. This layers deliciously with Moscow Mule or Sunny Side Up.

One quality all my JHAG scents share is a fresh dry down. The florals, coconut, or what have you never turn metallic. The same for the florals in Lust for Sun. They may grow fainter, but never stale. All stages of Lust for Sun smell brilliant.

I was so excited to smell this, as I am a fan of coconut scents but here the note is super understated. To me this is more of a lotion/shower gel smell than perfume, with maybe too much synthetic-smelling white florals in the opening, at least to my taste. I expected something more creamy, sunscreeny but instead I was met with an overly floral, kinda dated scent if I'm honest. The dry down is much much better but you have to be patient.
Overall is it pleasant? Yes. Would I wear it? No.

Smell of a day near the beach

Imagine a hot day near the beach: hot skin, smell of sunscreen cream, white flowers in a nearby garden and fresh coconut in your hands. This is exactly what this launch is about! Such a sunny perfume, perfect selection of naming and bottle colour. Longevity is amazing. This perfume will make your whole day sunny!

A summer hit made of tropical flowers and coconut

When it came out, I immediately added it to my list of perfumes to watch for as I knew I'd be searching for a nice tropical summer perfume when the time would come. I also hadn't given up on finding a perfume that contained coconut without that functional aspect of sunscreen. This one came as a GWP while buying something at Sephora and I do not regret choosing it as my GWP. It's (up until now) the tropical cocktail I've been searching for all along.

At the beginning, there's this sweet, creamy coconut scent. It's accompanied by a slightly powdery accord of white and yellow tropical flowers. Thankfully, the powdery aspect subsides rapidly, leaving the creamy coconut (without that sunscreen vibe) and tropical flowers as the stars. I could imagine myself lounging on a patio chair, sipping a fruity cocktail with the bright sun hanging in the clear skies above. It's the image this perfume gives me each time I smell it. Yellow flowers end up taking the spotlight as the day moves on, as the coconut retreats in the background. While it always stays fresh, it sometimes borders on the carnal, almost indolic aspect of flowers. I never caught the synthetic note of ambroxan which is good thing to me since I hate sharp synthetic notes. The musk never turns dirty thanks to vanilla: the drydown instead becomes a warm floral skin scent.

I've added this perfume as a full bottle since then and I don't regret it. The bottle is beautiful with the gradient colors reminiscent of a setting sun. The spray nozzle is one if the best I have in my collection and the cap is heavy and magnetic. I do see myself wearing it mostly during the summer, but the florals are sufficiently strong that you could wear it during spring and the beginning of fall without feeling too much out of place.

on the upper end of quality offerings from JHAG

Often times I find coconut in fragrances to be too much, especially ones that are marketed as more summery perfumes. Here, the coconut manages to be subtle, almost like coconut water. Subtlety isn't always Romano Ricci's forte, so the fact that the coconut isn't the main thing that I smell throughout the life of the fragrance is impressive. This is not quite a sunscreen perfume, but it smells close. Maybe a fancy tanning oil or perhaps what a fancy boutique hotel on the California or Australian coast would use to scent their lobby. It is fresh, zingy, clean-without-being-soapy, and redolent with creamy tropical florals that aren't overwhelming. I don't know why this isn't more popular in the JHAG line, especially considering this is just the type of scent that should appeal to hip Gen Z types who want a dedicated summer fragrance. I already found my perfect tropical scent in Fame by Rabanne since I wanted to go more fruity than floral, but Lust for Sun would've been my second choice. And the bottle is freaking gorgeous, just look at those colors! If you wanna feel like you are sitting on a bougie beach sipping an ultra-cool cocktail with some fun friends, this is the scent for that.
