A Light Musky Floral
Most musk scents that I've come across have been on the heavier side, but this seems very light. Is there such a thing as a light musk?

I get a big dose of orange blossom in the beginning along with the musk. This is a very lovely and interesting scent with lots of layers of complexity for me. Many different florals come through the center. It's too bad that I am not experienced enough to tell the florals one from the other.

This would be nice for the younger crowd. I find the projection and longevity to be average.

Keyword: Musk
Juliette Has a Gun ROMANTINA strikes me as a floral woody musk, with a huge emphasis on the third term: musk! Slightly sweet, moderately flowery musk, but musk really is the star of this show. It's not a clean, resinous musk, but it's also not a dark skanky one. Poised precisely at the midpoint between those two categories, I'd say.

According to the card which accompanied the sample, the principal ingredients are: musk, orange flower, and vanilla. That seems about right to me, except there is a touch of patchouli and wood as well.

As I am not a huge fan of musk-centric perfumes, ROMANTINA is not for me, but I am sure that lots of people who enjoy NR for her, SJP LOVELY, and other musk-rich perfumes would like this one too.

The circle closes.
The first fragrance from Juliette Has A Gun that I tested was Not a Perfume. Right after that came Anyway. I didn't like either of them on me at all. In the back of my mind, the idea began to form that the brand's style might not be for me in general. But then MMMM... fluttered into my life and taught me otherwise. I was extraordinarily excited. And so I began to test more fragrances from Juliette Has A Gun: Vengeance Extrême, Gentlewoman, Mad Madame, Citizen Queen. Each one captivated me strongly in its own way. Only Miss Charming and Moon Dance didn't quite resonate with me; I found Miss Charming rather unremarkable, and I wasn't too sad about Moon Dance since it would be even more expensive than the others. In my mind, the opposite idea began to form: I almost always like the brand's style.

In the past few days, I tested Romantina and the circle closes. Romantina seamlessly connects to Not a Perfume and Anyway:
In the opening, there is a floral-biting-sharp note that is very intense, and I would spontaneously attribute it to jasmine. Immediately, I think of the jasmine in Beauty by Calvin Klein. There, the same aggressive note ruins the fragrance for me. However, I am surprised to find that Romantina is not supposed to contain any jasmine at all. Could it be neroli contributing this nasty bite? I don't know; to me, it smells like a certain type of jasmine, not the cloying, heavy kind, but rather the sharpness of it. Neroli often has a certain sharpness too, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Either way, this note definitely dominates for one, if not two hours. Gradually, I sense something very pleasant behind it, so I resist my impulse to wash the fragrance off. I detect fine, powdery iris, not as cool as the neroli-jasmine, but also not warm, rather noble and spicy, floating in the middle with a hint of patchouli. However, the patchouli is not the typical Juliette Has A Gun patchouli, but much tamer and more subdued. These two notes start to come through more and more. I begin to like Romantina significantly better in the heart note.

For hours, I hope that the piercing note from the beginning will completely dissipate, but unfortunately, that does not happen. At a certain point, it doesn't lessen anymore but remains at the same level. If Romantina had started at this level, I might not have found it so bad. However, this lingering note constantly reminds me of the unpleasant, intense opening phase. Again and again, I think: That sharp note is still there. I can't detach my attention from it, even as a slightly woody musk gradually joins in. Even in the base, which I consider a boring, but admittedly not disturbing musk-ambroxan mix with a pleasant, slightly green touch of benzyl salicylate, I still recognize the opening note.

I couldn't detect any bergamot, rose, tuberose, vetiver, or vanilla. Even my beloved benzyl salicylate contributes its brilliant freshness in the base this time, but it doesn't save it anymore. Regarding the rose, I must say that I always perceive the rose in Juliette Has A Gun's other fragrances very little, or rather, I don't perceive it as a rose scent. So that doesn't say much.

I have returned to a neutral state regarding Juliette Has A Gun.
But since I already like quite a few fragrances from the brand extraordinarily well, I will surely continue to test more.

Here's to a new beginning...

A Mother's Advice to Her Daughter
Perfumes are not only sold based on their scent components but are also accompanied by a story to make them more appealing to men and women alike. This is certainly the case with JHAG.

The story for Romantina goes something like this: A young French couple is sitting in a small bar in a side street of Piazza Navona. The man has to return to Paris, while she can stay one more day in Rome. She has long noticed that someone is staring at her. Only after her man has left does she dare to take a shy glance at the one who has been fixating on her the whole time. He - the Latin Lover type - olive skin, green eyes, black curls. She wants to shyly avert her gaze from him, but before she knows it, he is standing in front of her and speaks to her. It unfolds as it probably must. He shows her Rome, his Rome. They walk through the heat of summer in Rome. At a fountain, where she wants to cool her neck with water, they share a kiss. But before this love can find fulfillment, she departs...
It all sounds very, very romantic. It should be, after all, the fragrance is called Romantina. Nevertheless, in my mind, the story plays out as a meeting of two people between whom there is an erotic tension, desires, longings, and fantasies that become almost physically palpable. Vibrating, electric tension.

However, Romantina does not fit this at all. With this scent, I initially perceive white flowers, jasmine, and a hint of osmanthus, both very delicate and almost transparent. The promised orange blossom, rose, or iris? No, unfortunately not! I also smell a bit of musk, which is light and clean. Very clean. Romantina is skinny, with no significant projection. No depth, no greenhouse effect of erotic fantasies. Patchouli, vetiver? I miss those here. They could give the fragrance the erotic depth that I find lacking. I also don’t notice much development with Romantina. It leaves me before the dream can unfold.

So dear Romantina, I understand that you dream of growing up. You are a sweet and pretty girl, but right now you are still too young, and the Latin Lover is not yet interested in you. After all, don’t all little girls dream of being desired by a man one day as women? But it’s not time yet. Wait a few more years.

Juliette has done it again
Fortunately, I cannot agree with the mostly mediocre comments here. For me, 'Romantina' is one of the most beautiful skin scents I have smelled in a long time. Romantic? Maybe, but not in a girlish, cute way.

Here are my associations upon the first sniff:

For some reason, the scent has a positively old-fashioned quality to it. The first thing that came to my mind was the Wild West, you know, dusty saloons, loose women... I have no idea what my brain was thinking. But it fits for me in the wild 1920s or after Woodstock '69. Or even in today's time.

Describing 'Romantina' is not easy for me. It connects perfectly with my skin. There’s nothing sour or sweaty developing, as some of you have written. On the contrary, on me it smells warm-sweet, woody, sensual with a very good sillage and excellent longevity (it lasts easily about 10 hours on me).

The most noticeable notes for me are tuberose, iris, patchouli, musk, and my beloved ambroxan. The rose clearly plays only a supporting role here, just like orange blossom, vanilla, and tonka, but the blend is simply perfect for me. Very close to the skin, feminine, and a bit animalistic. While it is relatively unobtrusive, it is by no means something that could be categorized as "nice" or "indifferent" - no, 'Romantina' is definitely sexy!

Well, there is something distinctly different about this little potion compared to the other Juliette Has a Gun fragrances. I can't put my finger on it, but as long as it smells this good, I'm fine with it.

Harmless floral/sweet musk featuring rose and orange blossom. If this tickles your fancy, consider SJP Lovely for a tenth of the price.

The rose is a little too fruity for my taste and could give the other notes more room to breathe.

Rose and orange blossom firstly with chilly powderiness, later warm and slightly sweet. Interesting development.

A gentle flower child that occasionally wants to play the seductress, but ultimately remains a bit well-behaved and shy. It lacks a bit of bite.

Floral start with a little rose, then powdery and sweet. H+S very weak. Pastel boredom that doesn't bother. Too generic...

Feather-light animalic notes and carefree sweetness balance each other out.
I could swear there's a tipsy raspberry hidden in here.

A blooming beautiful rose, a good shot of castoreum for the animalic touch, a bit of cool powdery iris, some creamy O-flower, and fresh musk.

Very sexy, the wolf in sheep's clothing - that's how it must have smelled when Grenouille removed the cap from the

Initially a bit bitter and synthetic, then skin-like. It’s more pleasant in the aura than when sniffed up close.
