Watercolor purple... or am I imagining it?
I bought a decant of this and at first I thought that I got a bad sample that wasn’t stored properly and turned, because I barely could smell anything. Do you know the feeling when you perceive something dense in your nostrils and you understand that it must be a smell, but you cannot “read” it, no matter how you try? That’s was my first experience with Amethyst Eclat. Although when I asked my husband to sniff my wrist he said that is smelt like candy, so it must be me “glitching”, not the sample.

A few days later, upon second application, I do feel something sweet and faintly fruity, but I still don’t “read” it clearly. I think I do get the pear, light blackcurrant, and musk notes. What I do manage to catch reminds me of Jeanne Arthes Boum Candy Land, which also comes in a purple bottle, so maybe it’s not a coincidence. I must say, the original Amethyst feels very gentle and transparent to me, a kind of “barely there” fragrance, so maybe it was to be expected that I wouldn’t be able to smell the “lighter version” of it.

I think there is something with the Lalique formula that makes me “nose blind” to it. When I tried “Perles de Lalique” I couldn’t distinguish flower notes there, only patchouli and pepper - and it was an official tester, not a decant.

Anyway, sorry for a not very informative review, but hopefully, it will help anyone experiencing similar anosmia with these frags to not feel alone. I wanted to try Lalique Amethyst series very much, because the notes sounded lovely in each of the three, but so far I drew a blank after a blank. Maybe Amethyst Exquise (supposedly a “darker, more intense” version) will be it for me? I do love blackberries and purple fragrances so much!

Amethystchen
I had high hopes for this fragrance, as the notes sound quite enchanting and the original Amethyst seems to have many fans. Additionally, I am currently testing the "red gourmands" (small hint: Outrageously Vibrant by Diana Vreeland is fantastic! Definitely worth trying!), but I am very disappointed with this one because it is simply too weak and remains a very short pleasure. I do like the scent itself quite a bit: It starts with a fresh, berry note that I wouldn't have necessarily identified if it weren't listed here as blackcurrant and raspberry. The special, sour-deep scent that cassis usually exudes is, for my personal taste, too delicately intertwined with the raspberry, leaving a slightly diluted olfactory impression. In general, I find it hard to pick out the individual notes; the fragrance impresses as a delicate lilac-floral veil, slightly powdery and more cool than warm. As an everyday scent, it would be quite suitable, as it is nice, but on one hand, it has hardly any recognizability, and on the other hand, it is simply so delicate and quickly fades away... I was particularly curious about the blackberry base, but that’s already gone. I find that very unfortunate, as the idea that I think I can recognize behind it would have fit quite well into my current preferences.

Cool Freshness!
I really like the original Amethyst, at least the opening, that freshness, berry-like. Unfortunately, I don't like the further development, so I occasionally spray it on in the perfume store, but I wouldn't buy it.

Amethyst Eclat is exactly how I would like the original Amethyst to be. It starts just as fresh, just as berry-like. However, the freshness remains here; the Eclat doesn’t get too sweet, not as heavy as the original. I perceive the scent as cool, which is why I think it fits perfectly for spring and summer. The longevity is, despite the fresh scent profile, still very good; I can perceive the scent for a long time.

It is definitely on my wish list for the upcoming spring!

Red fruits without the soapiness of the OG. Nice for spring but nothing special. It can also remind Parisienne without the vinyl note.

The scent feels like a sunny summer day in my grandma's garden. Dark-fruity, fresh, mouthwatering, not overly sweet. Beautiful.

A brief hint of currant jelly and candied rose petals: a sparkling champagne cocktail.
Then just synthetic musk with a touch of dusty rose.

Lighter, fresher + more watery than the original. Unfortunately, also sweeter. More rose than berries + too much clean musk. Prefer Amethyst without the fuss.

Pleasant and feminine scent. I smell fresh, juicy blackcurrants with acidity, cool rose, and musk. The bottle is very beautiful.

Bought it blind, great scent, but unfortunately a bit weak on me!

At first, a brief iris note (floral, powdery), berry, hairspray. Then just lightly powdered, floral, sweet. Lasts surprisingly long.

too much musk and rose essence, no berries - stuffy, overpowering, fades quickly, no comparison to the lovely Amethyst

Initially nice and fresh (Nashi pear!) - quickly turns soapy-warm. Too bad. Berries aren't as prominent as in the original, but noticeable.
