My favorite underdog
Lalique fragrances are often underrated and this one in particular. Its bottle is a true piece of glass artwork and the scent itself is unique, high quality and with decent performance. When I see this beauty on offer for the price of a deodorant stick I'm glad to restock, but actually it is saddening. Is this a sign of failed marketing, or worse, discontinuation?

The fragrance opens with a shot of smoky saffron and violet. A very clear statement: This is not going to be anywhere near the fresh, clean and sweet scents of today. This going to be a bit of a dirty ride. The musk comes through to add an 'animale' quality. Oud and pepper in the background complete the composition of smoke, spice and skunk.

I'm very fond of this fragrance and I highly enjoy wearing it occasionally. But yeah, I can also see why it's unpopular. This will not get you any compliments, it will more likely keep people at a safe distance. Which I enjoy too, occasionally.

Silver Metallic And Pearl Effect
A strong individual character is what we typically experience with gent's perfumes by Lalique. Hommage à L'Homme is on the market for a while now and also part of my collection, yet, I find it difficult to evaluate.

Not only due to its outer appearance, Hommage à L'Homme is breaking up with the Lalique tradition. This perfume is background only, nothing in there is distinctive or unwieldy, and one has to look for good to find a certain statement.

Even though this note is not listed: Hommage à L'Homme for me classifies into the group of modern, dry amber perfumes, like Prada Amber pour Homme Intense or Eau de Iceberg 74.

A very discreet, dry and greyish smoke stands in the main focus – nothing else. This smells somehow transparent, with a minimal rubber appeal and the idea of burnt amber at last. More friendly and brighter notes - such as violet or bergamot – may be in but are not very discernible. It is a downright anti-perfume!

Hommage a L'Homme projects a dry smoke into the aura of its wearer. I don't see a development that is worth mentioning. This fragrance is as discreet as convenient to wear. There is nothing distracting in there, nothing to provoke objection – one cannot go wrong with it. Wearing Hommage à L'Homme is just as thrilling as choosing silver metallic as the colour of your new car. Okay, this fragrance is really well done and refined: silver metallic with pearl effect!

When should one wear this, and why? I think Hommage à L'Homme should be granted a spot on your bath room shelf, always within reach. You can grab this bottle quickly when you are late in the morning and have no time for musing about your perfume of the day. Hommage à L'Homme will enfold a pleasant carpet before you which with its transparent mist will protect you from the worst demands of the beginning working day. On your way to your job you will notice that you have caught something nice. And the car you are driving (silver metallic, of course!) will slide throught the morning traffic just a little bit more relaxed and elegant .

Such a lot of understatement, but what a bulky flacon! That doesn't fit for me – but maybe for Lalique's marketing people. The massive appearance pretends what is missing in there.

Does Lalique have success with it? I have already seen bargains. Presumably, most buyers would prefer something more gaudy, and so shop assistants will have to work a little for this perfume. When you finally own a bottle of it, you will have to grow into it first before Hommage à L'Homme finally will become your grey working day companion.

Two scoops of lovely
Every time I wear this scent it never fails to impress. From the first spray, just imagine cracking open a brand new bag of organic dried figs and giving it a good sniff. Bam. Like fresh prunes or raisins with that dusty crystalline sweetness quality - that's what the violet, labdanum, oud and saffron does in this. Very ethereal, high frequency, but with a touch of that grunge from the woody pepper.

It's funny, the first time I ever smelled it on a test strip, it was an immediate love. Dusty and understated sweet man-spice. Big smile. Morever, I couldn't help but get bits of nearly every association that other people have made - Fahrenheit (yup), Gucci Pour Homme II (yup), grape? (more of a raisin or wine), cherries (yup), L'homme Libre (yup) and get this....after sitting for about 8 hours on a test strip...I kid you not - the drydown of Guerlain's L'homme Ideal Cologne. As crazy as that sounds, it took me a while before I figured it out, but yeah. Mostly on paper though.

On skin, the black pepper, saffron and cistus combine to give the high frequency sweetness and ethereal violet a slightly earthy, burned match quality up close that combines with a bare dusting of wood to give it just the right amount of groundedness. It's amazing. Many people have compared the smell in the drydown to dry tobacco leaves and I can see why. But to me, it's really more of a mashup of dry, resinous fruit that sometimes approaches wine territory in the sillage. Like two scoops of raisins decided to waltz around a bowl of freshly poured cherry juice laying on a bed of smouldering leaves or paper. Oud? Not even a hint. At least, not the middle-eastern kind. And the longevity and projection is just about perfect for a scent of this class. Nothing really juvenille about it, despite the sweetness giving it a playful wink.

Overall, if the idea was to create a product reminiscent of the fine glass work that Lalique is known for with just a touch of grounded masculinity and intrigue, Hommage a L'homme is nothing short of a homerun. Even in its current bottle it exudes precision and refinement, all the way up to the logo at the very tip of the reflective cap. Superb attention to detail, and at an incredible price to boot. If I were to sum it up in one word, "lovely" would certainly be it. Not a surprise that Lalique remains my favourite designer fragrance brand right next to Guerlain. Affordable elegance without compromise. THAT, I can count on.

A Violet-Oud Tribute to the Modern Gentleman
As the name suggests, Hommage à l’Homme is exactly that — a tribute to the man. But this isn’t just another generic masculine scent. This is a nuanced, layered fragrance that pulls classic elements from iconic men’s perfumery and reassembles them into something unexpectedly modern, elegant, and just a bit mysterious.
This was a blind buy for me — and frankly, I had no idea violet and agarwood could make such an addictive duo. Oud is typically married to rose in those well-known oriental formulas, but here it dances with violet leaf, and the result is something truly original. The contrast is sharp yet refined. It keeps your attention. And it works.

If you're a fan of Fahrenheit Eau de Toilette, you’ll instantly recognize that signature accord — woody, petrol-inflected violet leaf — that unmistakable profile that manages to be fresh, warm, and polished all at once. But let me be clear: beyond the violet, Hommage à l’Homme is not a Fahrenheit clone. They share some DNA, sure, but they walk very different paths.

The opening is a surprise — more sour than you'd expect. It starts off with crisp citrus and herbal-green violet leaf, with a faint powdery undertone humming in the background. There's also this very specific vibe of that old-school Italian grape soda — violet-sweet, a bit fizzy — wrapped in leathery saffron. That floral note sticks around, softened yet distinct, resting on the shadowy warmth of oud.

As it develops, the fragrance leans more into that violet and oud duet. The oud here isn’t loud or animalic — it's a smooth, synthetic kind of oud, like you’d find in Ferrari Oud. Safe and balanced, creamy more than dirty, lending a subtle dark warmth rather than overwhelming the composition. It becomes this tug-of-war between hot, resinous oud and cool, airy violet — pulsing, unsettled, and totally compelling. Eventually, the two begin to blur into a sleek, lacquered woodiness that feels both vintage and futuristic.

Fast forward an hour or two, and Hommage shifts again. The violet softens, melting into a clean, slightly soapy stage. Not full-on barbershop, but clean in a subtle, nostalgic way. At this point, notes of hay and pepper start to whisper through, adding dryness and depth. This phase lingers the longest, mellow and grounded.

And just when you think it’s done evolving — around hour five or six — the oud resurfaces, joined by a gentle powdery musk. It’s delicate but persistent. By the ten-hour mark, it's still quietly present on my skin. I sprayed this in the early afternoon, and the next morning I could still detect it on the shirt I wore underneath. That soft oud trail? Absolutely phenomenal.

In terms of wearability, Hommage à l’Homme is a modern gentleman’s scent. Casual yet refined, reserved but confident. Projection is subtle — arm’s length, if that — but longevity is excellent. It’s creamy yet light, slightly sweet, gently bitter in the drydown. I even get whiffs of something resembling tobacco — more like the scent of an empty cigarette pack, which oddly enough adds to the charm.

If you're chasing a beast-mode oud bomb, this won’t satisfy you. There’s more oud in the marketing than in the actual formula. But if you’re looking for a quiet, well-constructed, violet-oud fusion with an understated charm — this one delivers.

I’ve had this bottle since January 2017, and every time I wear it, I’m reminded why I fell for it in the first place. Lalique Hommage à l’Homme is a rare find — a smooth, modern classic that whispers instead of shouts. And that’s exactly its power.

Olfactory Echoes of a Better Past
Scentrack
Drago Diklic – Moja Draga

A truly dedicated to men. Lalique’s man is gentle, but masculine. Quiet, well behaved and optimistic. A proper 21st century gentleman.
This fragrance has a retro old school vibe paired with contemporary oud/Tonka tendencies. Duo Nagel – Bijaoui did a tremendous job – a perfectly tweaked masculine composition with multiple layers. Beautiful neoclassic violet rides together with its green leaf and some black pepper. The opening is masculine, somehow boozy, and green like a freshly cut grass, reminding of Dior’s Fahrenheit. The powdery floral notes of violet and saffron are prominent. The saffron note in my opinion gives that needed Oriental twist to otherwise complete Western composition, and successfully balance the oud note. This synthetic oud is dim, yet dark. It gives slightly skunky, dirty undertones. Tonka bean from the base is responsible for that sweet contemporary touch, while cistus for resinous tone. I enjoy discovering these layers over and over again.
Hommage is a special everyday scent. Unreal hybrid of modern and classic. For men who open a door for their ladies and carry a linen handkerchief. An olfactory echoes of a better past.

I hate to introduce cheap perfume as "near niche quality," but in this case there can be no other expression.Seriously better than Farenheit
