Uninspired lavender
I first smelled it in December 2024, right in Kyoto, during my honeymoon.
Was it worth waiting thirty minutes outside the boutique, standing in line, just to smell it?
Absolutely not. But at least I satisfied my curiosity.

It’s a rather faint fragrance built around a pleasant, though far from remarkable, aromatic lavender.
Incense and osmanthus? Secondary at best.
With a pyramid (and a price) like that, one has every right to expect more.

cool girls with high rises, mid-century modern furniture and lavender incense sticks
i wear this to parties with cool art kids that i need to impress. this scent carries an incense, burnt wood smell that makes all the wannbe new yorkers in a small liberal arts college wonder if you just smoked outside the cafe or have a high rise with mid-century modern furniture and incense burning 24/7. i don't smoke, but they'll ask me if i do. the resin comes in as a "skin scent", as if i naturally smell like this. the lavendar is not too strong, it hides under the smoke, but almost seems like it was a lavendar incense stick. would love to smell this once the weather cools, definitely a cool girl scent. not my usual type of fragrance, but delightful.

Ancient temple
The top note carries a faint coolness of incense, making me feel as though I’m standing in an ancient temple with a breeze drifting by—instantly calming. The burning incense slowly fades, giving way to a resinous warmth laced with the faintest floral whisper. The overall impression is a softly sweet woody aroma; osmanthus is barely detectable, if at all.

This fragrance shares a similar atmosphere to [Le Labo’s] Gaiac 10. Wearing it, you’ll catch an exquisite, comforting woodiness drifting into your senses when least expected—a quiet moment of peace in the midst of life’s chaos, leaving you enchanted once again by its elusive, ethereal allure.

Kyoto 25
During my trip to Japan, alongside Tokyo, Osaka, and various rural areas, the culturally rich city of Kyoto was, of course, a must-visit. In addition to the many breathtaking temples and traditional shrines, there was another place I absolutely had to visit.
The Le Labo Café in Kyoto - it was immediately clear that there was a bit of a hype around this shop this year, as the line was quite noticeable.
Nevertheless, I was determined to visit the shop and, of course, to test the Kyoto exclusive from Le Labo - I had previously tested the Tokyo exclusive as well.

The Kyoto exclusive captures the scent impressions and atmosphere of Kyoto well:
The fragrance begins with a relatively green note, which immediately reminded me of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto.
As it develops, the scent becomes a bit darker, and the incense note comes forward - I immediately associated this with the temples and shrines, as there was a strong smell of incense at each of these places.
The interpretation is, of course, heavily influenced by my trip, but I think that was also intended by Le Labo with their city exclusives.
In general, it can be said that it is definitely a solid fragrance, and I would recommend a trip to Japan to anyone, regardless.

A very soft, creamy, resinous incense. Beautiful. I definitely get the floral/fruity aspect from the Osmanthus, but very gentle.

Sweet, fruity osmanthus in the beginning; dries down to a resinous lavender. Enjoyed this a lot more the second try.

Classic Le Labo drydown. No apricot nuances. Nice work

Peppery Kodo incense, creamy, molecular, powerful. I have trouble picking out the namesake Osmanthus. What a pity.

Gentle and understated, mystical and balsamic. The atmosphere and scent of the Chionin Temple in Kyoto beautifully captured.
