Lovely sweet velvety iris but ultimately lacks identity...
My experience with Iris de Syracuse seems to reflect that of Littlegrassstraw. The opening is ever so lovely: a tenderly sweet woody iris, with a bit of starchy yet creamy, velvety texture. I don't perceive any earthy, metallic, carroty aspects of the iris. Iris de Syracuse at this stage, embodies the olfactory equivalent of an elegant pastel purple velvet gown.

Unfortunately, once it starts to dry down after roughly 2 hours, its magic begins to wear off. A sweet ambery accord pervades the creamy iris, turning it into a candy iris with a tiny suggestion of lipstick, which reminds me of a less ambery dry down of Jacques Fath Bel Ambre. It's still lovely, but in comparison to the graceful opening, it feels rather generic and déjà-vu.

The sillage is mostly close to the skin, and the longevity is around 8 hours.

I thoroughly enjoyed Iris de Syracuse, especially that its velvety sweet woody iris opening imparts a sophisticated yet approachable elegance. The transition to the candy ambery iris is also quite subtle, making it mostly linear, easy to appreciate and versatile as well.

However, because of the intense competition of many great iris fragrances, Iris de Syracuse, as lovely as it is, ultimately feels lack in personality and identity, a problem that impacts the whole range of Boucheron La Collection. Personally, I think there are other iris fragrances able to fulfilling a similar function as Iris de Syracuse, and with more personality and creativity as well. The high price and limited availability of Iris de Syracuse also don't help.

All in all, if you love iris and would like to get hands on each and every one possible, or if you happen to be on a quest for slightly starchy and creamy sweet iris, Iris de Syracuse would be quite enjoyable to sample, even though I suspect that there are better and more affordable alternatives somewhere else.

A lovely iris with no distractions.
Boucheron has an elegant line of perfumes that is seldom seen or discussed anywhere. This group of perfumes that refer to ancient cities and kingdoms, includes Iris de Syracuse, Oud de Carthage, Néroli d’Ispahan and many others. Part of the problem may be the complicated marketing and ownership arrangement between Inter Parfums and Boucheron. It is a shame really because Iris de Syracuse is a beautiful and powerful iris fragrance. This was created by Nathalie Lorson in 2017.

The notes listed for Iris de Syracuse on the Inter Parfums website are black pepper, pear, iris concrete, heliotrope, patchouli and white musk. What you get with this perfume is a strong beautiful iris, with a few additional notes that feel like an afterthought. The opening note is obviously iris, displaying the well-known dual personality of this accord. You get a nice suede leather note as well the floral note. No wonder iris is a common note in men’s perfume. As expected, Iris de Syacuse has a shaving cream vibe in the opening. There are nuances of pepper and pear also in the opening, but these are totally overwhelmed by the suede and iris. I do not smell orange and vanilla anywhere in Iris de Syracuse. In the heart notes, the suede note subsides to elevate the floral iris, perhaps with some heliotrope. Heliotrope has overlapping characteristics with many other notes in this perfume, making it difficult to identify its unique presence. The base notes are musk and a bit of patchouli, with remnants of iris. Despite all the notes mentioned here, Iris de Syracuse is essentially iris all the way through.

This perfume performs well on my skin. I get longevity lasting over eight hours, with a musky iris hanging on for longer. The sillage is nice in the opening hours, but not with any obnoxious projection. It is safe to wear this at office, though it may not turn heads at a party with other ambient smells.

Boucheron Iris de Syracuse is a beautiful iris, worthy of a spot in any collection. The suede note tempers the floral attribute of iris, adding to the strong personality of this perfume. But keep in mind that this is a single-minded iris fragrance. I have no hesitation recommending this perfume, especially when it costs less than $80 at the discounters.

Amazing iris!
Why is no one talking about this fragrance line? After that stunning patchouli, now there's this noble iris.
I’ve tested it multiple times and honestly, it’s made it into my top 3 iris scents ever. I’m seriously in love with it — it’s warm, radiant, and full of character.
It’s smooth, soft, and has this effortless elegance that never gets boring.
It opens fresh and powdery, then slowly melts into something softer, more velvety… with a gorgeous base that’s slightly powdery and earthy, but still super refined and delicate.
This iris is something truly special. B e a u t i f u l.

A powdery iris with class
A sweet, powdery, clean, feminine leaning scent that is not too overpowering. This smells like the color light purple to me. It is the scent of a happy, kind and empathetic woman. Very lovely!
This is an amazing entry fragrance for powdery perfume newbies. As far as I have tested so far it is also quite crowd pleasing.
I think you might like this if you are into scents like Gurelain Insolence, Dama Bianca or Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 40 or if you are after a slightly makeup powdery scent that smells nostalgic and modern at the same time.
(Or in my case if you love Fleur de Peau but your friends and family said that smells like a grandma - this perfume is a sweeter, more modern scent profile for the powdery girls and guys).
On skin it lasts only about 4 hours on me but when on clothes I could smell it faintly the next morning.

Opulent Syracuse of Ancient World
"Iris de Syracuse" opens up with a strong black pepper note, which may feel somewhat confusing and liquorice-like because of mandarin orange wrapped around it. Pear is too green to hold its own, and only hints of it exist through slightly honeyed sweetness.
Iris steps in pretty fast, powdered by heliotrope. They "push" the pepper off the stage and this is when composition starts becoming rather unique and interesting. Iris is a cool blue and heliotrope undertone does not make it warmer, but pepper does. And now that pepper is no longer domineering, the fragrance is quite a beautiful and superbly original. Jasmine, like the pear, is not pronounced and is detectable by its indolic flashes of gold (it is more visible during the summer period, adding its own signature sweetness and taming the pepper furthermore).
White musk is a solid base, well rounded by vanilla, creating a subtle and elegant background without interfering with the heart notes, adding some freshness, which makes "Iris de Syracuse" a year-round wearable perfume as well as a solid unisex.
Despite its simplicity, the scent is unmistakably original and nothing else comes to mind that may compare anywhere close to its signature. Pepper accord creates a great twist on otherwise "old classic" of iris, heliotrope and musk, justifying its name as the Port of Syracuse was the at the cross roads of the West and Orient and was full of luxurious spices, colours and fabrics.
"Iris de Syracuse" has a restrained projection and is great for both close encounters as well as going out. It lasts at least 6 - 8 hours on my skin, and its notes' transitions are most enjoyable to behold. To me, - it is a perfect niche classic - its very own character and twist, quiet luxury evoking the opulence and mysticism of the ancient history.

It reminds me of the iris fields in Sicily on the coast. The iris takes over a mixed spring floral but nothing fantastic

After a few months there are great performance gains. Lovely, lush, not talc, low powder iris, very unique. Great great value.

Really elegant yet comfortable iris fragrance. A little woody, a little powdery. A lot of iris.

Elegant powdery iris with a soft pear-mandarin opening and vanilla drydown. Beautiful scent, but underwhelming performance.

Like the modern interpretation of a classic. Delicate powdery, elegant iris adorned with fine fruity and floral notes. Almost shy.

The iris blooms in the summer garden where pears spread their scent. Where light gently dusts feelings. Where a carefree existence is possible.
