Summer evening barn incident
Vetyver Bucolique is incredibly raunchy in a boozy, drunken way— but not like wine or liquor, more like the saccharine smell of hay fermenting from too much heat and moisture. I’m imagining drunk sheep and goats stumbling around a dimly lit barn, lapping up drips of sweet liquid falling from the hay loft. Awesome :)

kooky, kinky salaciousness
Vetiver Bucolique from Mad et Len evokes a sort of sleazy Rococco decadence stalked by a gloomy, predatory nihilism. Oh, you thought I was going to talk about notes and actually helpful info? Ha ha! I will not! It smells like the kooky, kinky salaciousness of Jean-Honoré Fragonard's iconic painting, The Swing, if you scratched out the creamy pastel frivolity of the faces in some sort of freaky Raskolnokovian frenzy.

Don't be ashamed, young hippie!
In “Vetyver Bucolique,” the namesake sweet grass is extremely rare, so I personally would have chosen a different name. Here, the often-seen headline “Veti who?” would have been fitting once again. But that doesn’t have to make this Mad et Len directly bad. You just have to lower, adjust, and change your expectations…

After all, if you translate “bucolique” as “idyllic,” the name of this perfume does fit a bit more. “Vetyver Bucolique” is a creamy patchouli scent, with a hay-honey garnish and light shisha tobacco vibes. The latter is of high quality, not mainstream. A bit of the Orient, a bit of the '69s. Summer of love. More Istanbul than Paris. More Bob Marley than Dr. Stefan Frank. You really have to imagine the vetiver. Lovely, sweet, but not sticky at all. Everything is well thought out and beautifully crafted. Just with the wrong label.

Bottle: niche or pharmacy?
Sillage: creamy, laid-back, and pleasant
Longevity: 7 hours, neither Woodstock nor Waterloo

Conclusion: noble label deception. No vetiver, but the most flattering honey patchouli.

Spicy honey, damp warm hay with dried floral accents. In the drydown, earth, moss, and lots of tobacco-hay. Vetiver in a supporting role.

I don't really notice vetiver here, more of a delicate, sweet patchouli. Sandalwood might be in there, the scent is lightly creamy. Well done.

Herb honey-haze drifts over dry meadows. Green streaks curl up from the earth... Dull patinated, bronzed wilderness.

Great misfire. I can't find any vetiver here, just golden, resinous creaminess. Delicate melt with a hint of oriental. Delicious!

Floral, spicy, quite sweet overall, but also unusual and vibrant; a bit too much honey for my taste. Still: not bad!

The dried stems have been in the sun so long that they've turned honey-sweet and spicy. One could almost make mead from them...

Resinous, sweet, creamy. Hay? Vetiver? More like spices, but where does this strange scent come from? Sandalwood and guaiac wood seem to be here too.

Distinct patchouli. Reminds me of Field Notes from Paris.
Sweet-sour-resinous-green. Bitter-earthy.
Liqueur-like smoothness, complex + good.
