A Long-Forgotten Pioneer
My first review of my first fragrance. It doesn't get much more fitting than this ;)
Maybe the headline is a bit sensational. But the fragrance was released in 1998, and it is unisex. Recognizable by the symbol on the top of the packaging (see pictures). Unisex fragrances are completely normal today; back then, they were a rarity. If I'm not mistaken, CK One Eau de Toilette was the very first unisex perfume in 1994.
I can't remember exactly when I bought the bottle. I would guess it was at the end of the 90s / beginning of the 2000s. I had completely forgotten about the perfume until I recently saw the bottle sitting in my parents' bathroom.
My parents have a habit of not throwing anything away... It's often annoying; in this case, it's worth its weight in gold. So, a big thank you to my parents at this point :D
I didn't have much hope that the fragrance would still be okay after around 25 years... so I sprayed it on cautiously, and... WOW! Flashback to my youth. It actually smells just like it used to! (and I'm just realizing how old I am...)
I think the bottle is made of completely opaque black glass, which is why the contents haven't gone bad.
So, what does it smell like? Well, that's hard to categorize since I associate many memories with it, and to me, it simply smells great.
Looking at it neutrally, it's a fresh, slightly citrusy scent, with a certain spiciness to it.
Let's be honest: It's a shower gel scent through and through. It has no development, and the longevity is poor (which could also be due to its age).
But hey, it didn't even cost 20 DM back then. And it actually smells really good, even if it's somewhat generic.
But that's what perfume is all about, right? The connection of a beautiful scent with emotions and memories. That's why X - The Fragrance of Mystery will always have a special place in my collection.
Not because it's an incredibly good fragrance. But because it has meaning for me.
Thanks for reading :)
