Play Dough!...
This one is a puzzler. Cologne pour le Matin opens with probably the best pure lemon note I have smelled in a scent to date. Very natural and well-executed. Things were off to a stunning start and I was almost ready to buy a bottle on the spot... Then the unthinkable happened, the lemon started to get somewhat yeast-like after a couple minutes and then creamy, reminding me of lemon mixed with... (wait for it...) Play-Dough! I am all for reliving my childhood days in my scents, but that is just too strange and not a memory I would want to smell like for the day. My guess is it has to be the musk that is causing the Play-Dough accord, but whatever it is I don't like it much. Pretty much that is all I get as the scent is pretty linear. Longevity of Cologne pour le Matin is below average to average, with average projection.

I really am somewhat disappointed with Cologne pour le Matin. It starts off so strong, only to blow it big time. All in all not a bad smelling scent, but FK can do so much better and so can the buyer... 3 out of 5 stars for this above average scent overall, but it's a poor value and not recommended except for die-hard MFK fans who should see if they understand it better.

Penaten Cream.
It’s not so easy to find a few descriptively breaking, explanatory, perhaps even embellishing words when all, all top notes and nasal mucosa associations simply spit out Penaten cream.
But I will try it anyway.

Sprayed on, an imaginary baby bottom flies by. No, don’t worry, this is not the Edathy account.
Freshly diapered and wrapped, you can be sure with this perfume that this state will remain throughout the day.
On public playgrounds, tired mothers nod at you in acknowledgment.
In the supermarket, you are asked, in front of the Penaten shelf, not to tear open the jars, tubes, and pots.
You receive a ton of compliments about your fine skin and smooth complexion; postmen, bus drivers, and butchers stroke your cheek.
This is somehow going too far.

You smell like Penaten cream.

A Wanderer Between Scents
Well, this is something nice for an early morning! With his Cologne Pour le Matin, Francis Kurkdjian has taken on a men's fragrance direction that, inexplicably, is rarely interpreted: violet!

The first impression upon spraying brings an Aha effect: One is immediately reminded of Prada's Infusion d'Homme - the same slightly fresh, wonderfully suitable style for the morning, just perhaps a bit more citrusy at the top. That the violet carries the name "Iris" there, I gladly overlook, as I find these scent notes closely related.

Upon closer sniffing, the first impression is relativized. It becomes clear that Cologne Pour le Matin has simply more behind it. There is a hint of a dark, dry tone that adds to it.

Cologne Pour le Matin now "wanders" quite quickly in the scent progression from Infusion d'Homme to another Prada fragrance: the well-known, intense violet scent "Amber pour Homme." In fact, Cologne Pour le Matin now goes all out: a strong, dominating smell of violet pastilles emerges, which is so distinctly shown even in Prada's candy-like Amber pour Homme. However, unlike with Prada, there is never a distinctly sweet impression.

Cologne Pour le Matin now wanders back a bit. The violet note remains, but the scent now moves towards Infusion de Vetiver! I smell the same or similar green notes here, and I assume there is vetiver present. Only the cedarwood component, which is added in the base there, is missing here. After these introductory acrobatics, Cologne Pour le Matin settles somewhere in the middle between the two aforementioned Prada fragrances.

Should we speak of a plagiarism that is sold at double the price with the higher honors of niche perfumery? Well, one could see it that way. However, I would rather speak of a citation. And in a certain way, Francis Kurkdjian has brought together the differently timbred Prada fragrances. Anyone who likes all three Prada men's fragrances will find a synthesis here, and it goes beyond the originals at least in one point. The fact is that Prada's Amber pour Homme is not top quality, for example, it scratches a bit and also comes across as quite sweet. This aspect is not found in Cologne Pour le Matin; here, the quality is right.

In this sense, I perceive Cologne Pour le Matin as an enrichment of a fragrance direction that is far too rare. The only question that remains is whether the naming is justifiable.

Well, it is not a light morning scent, and it has significantly more than Cologne strength. Cologne Pour le Matin is really intense and loud, just like Amber pour Homme. As an office scent, one can only recommend it with caution; here, Prada's Infusion fragrances are the better choice. Thus, the name choice is somewhat euphemistic. I really like this fragrance direction, but Cologne Pour le Matin must be handled very carefully. One could quickly tire of the intense violet pastille scent. For me, it's more of a very nice Cologne to wear a few times a year!

Morning has broken
In the very early morning, shortly after sunrise, when everything is still so pristine and dreamy, there is a very special charm.
The first, still slightly sleepy tender light, the slowly awakening nature: flowers and herbs exhale the spicy scent of the night and begin to stretch towards the light and warmth.
Fine droplets of dew cover this early magic of the day like a delicate veil, sparkling like a thousand tiny gemstones.

Many perfumers have tried (and will continue to try) to capture this mood:
citrusy, green, and floral-soft, freshly awakened and hopeful.
So too Francis Kurkdjian with his "Cologne Pour le Matin".

Now, I have a particular fondness for this brand and perhaps that is why I approach the individual fragrances with an open mind.
With "Cologne Pour le Matin," my anticipation was rewarded in the most delightful way!

This morning enchants me: it is not only citrus-fresh with lemon and bergamot, which is actually to be expected.
No! The wonderfully robust spice of thyme and lavender lively and awake joins in.
Here, not only flowers and leaves are used, but also the woody parts of these plants.
Both can grow into quite gnarled shrubs, and this woodiness, which generously disperses its own aroma in the early morning, contains a special and also lasting magic.
Thus, I am embraced not only by the charming scent of light noble citrus fruits but also by a primal spice that elevates my well-being and awakens joy and curiosity for the next hours, for the day.
The delightful neroli oil has been laid like a fine net over this fragrant tapestry and can wonderfully develop its positive effect on heart and soul on this fresh-spicy foundation.
Even the grayest morning begins to smile now.

I encounter a lively fragrance water for a successful start to the day here.
As beautiful and blissful as the view through an open window into the just awakening nature, where every moment, every breath becomes a sensual pleasure.
Of course, "Cologne Pour le Matin" also has only the longevity one expects from such a fragrance. But if a wonderful day follows a magical morning, what prevents us from making a fragrance change - with the awakened aromas of the times of day?

The morning that MFK offers here is flattering and friendly like the old, well-known song by Cat Stevens:
"Morning has broken like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing,
Praise for the morning.
Praise for them springing fresh from the world."

So let us celebrate the first hours of a day: "Cologne Pour le Matin" will surely be happy to help!
Good morning, my dears!

an April morning in February
It is really no secret: I am fed up with winter, as one can hardly be more fed up.
Please no more snow, no ice, no slush, no more feeling like stepping into a freezer as soon as you go outside!
No runny nose, no cracked red hands, no frozen toes, and no depressed mummer!
I want spring, blue silk skies, tickling sun rays, budding green, and light, buoyant scents that get caught in airy and colorful dresses and make the handsome neighbor swoon!

Unfortunately, the weather god is not impressed by my whining and pleading and insists that it should still be winter in mid-February, and I should order my spring somewhere else.
That's mean and customer-unfriendly; I should complain to his superior!
Sadly, I turn away - when someone taps me on the shoulder: "Why not try this!"
In front of me stands a much younger man than the weather god - short dark hair on his head and face, a fine smile, and very direct dark eyes that seem to know my wishes exactly.
And in his hand, a bottle of "Cologne Pour le Matin."
A wink - and Francis Kurkdjian has already disappeared.

I open my eyes.
It is morning.
February morning, still.
Next to me on the pillow lies a large, square bottle filled with a clear liquid.
Confused blinking - it was just a dream...?
A very tangible dream, I think, and reach beside me, closing my fingers around the cool glass, pulling off the metal cap.
"Pffft" it goes - and around me spreads radiant brightness, as if the April sun were shining through the window.
Green lemons and bergamot explode in my nose, tickling and pricking, making me shoot straight up from the sheets.
But already the commotion subsides: target person has been startled out of bed, mission accomplished.
Still a bit dazed, I wrap myself in my lavender bathrobe, which always carries a hint of violet pastilles, and tiptoe into the kitchen.
Indeed, the sun has come out from behind the clouds and pours friendly spring light over the pots and boxes of kitchen herbs.
I pluck a sprig of thyme, crush it between my fingers, and inhale deeply the green-spicy scent.
Back in the bedroom, I open closets and drawers - today I want to wear white, white cotton lingerie, a white shirt, and white jeans.
Accidentally, I bump into a bottle of "Fresh Laundry" and just manage to catch it before it shatters on the floor.
Shaking my head at my clumsiness, I hop into the shower, letting hot water run over my body, enjoying the creamy scent of the gel.
An April morning in February.
Thank you, Mr. Kurkdjian!

Beautiful subtle everyday scent. Feels fresh like being lotioned with Penaten. Lifts the mood and makes worries fade away. Discreet.

I smell like I just bathed and lightly moisturized. It gives a peaceful-clean, confident impression. It smells more "unperfumed." Nice!

Lavender lemon + baby cream from the can with the shepherd... I like it. Fresh after shaving... great! Amazing in the height of summer. Thanks, Francis

Less fresh, but creamy and well-groomed (like baby products). Not a cologne, but an absolutely cozy scent for weekends on the couch.

A pleasantly spicy fragrance, like an early summer morning: nothing scratches or bites; neroli gently embraces herbs and citrus fruits.

Floral cream scent
Roughly reminiscent of baby cream
Sillage is good at first, but fades quickly. Longevity 3-4 hours, then very skin-like or almost gone.

Baby powder & lemon cream. Unfortunately, it feels heavy and old-fashioned on me. Also triggers asthma. Unpleasant.
