Stockholm Syndrome love.
Times Square in the 80s and 90s wasn't this sanitized Disneyland tourist trap version that it is now. And I have to give it to Bruno Janovic, he did capture a little part of those pre-mayor Giuliani days, specifically the trashy back alleys with the neon signs flashing at you Girls! Girls! Girls! Live! Live! Live! XXX! XXX! XXX! That laid on thick, cheap, hooker-red lipstick paired with that dose of tuberose sweetened by osmanthus, so strident, so cheap, so...alluring?! It's like a durian about to expire covered in flowers, a gassy, petrol-like sweet smell that punches you in the gut. I am disgusted but fascinated and cannot look away. I love and hate it, but all the same, it must be some sort of masochistic love because I keep coming back to it again and again, always craving one more sniff.

Deci, da, Times Square circa '80-'90 it is. Nu pot să cred că zic asta, dar Rudy Giuliani, clean up on aisle 42!

Unexpected
Despite some not so promising reviews I pulled the trigger and purchased this fragrance. I have to say, I'm not regretting it. I have never smelled anything like this before. Maybe my nose is not developed enough but I couldn't really identify the given notes/accords. Instead I smelled something very deep, fruity(mostly candied peach), dark(Slightly smokey leathery) and powdery.
Performance on my skin is absolute beast mode, I could even smell it the next day. In the first 4-5 hours is projects heavily and fills the room, leaves a trail everywhere. Smelling it up close can make you nose blind so don't be fooled, people around you can definitely smell it.
I would say it's a very niche smell for special occasions. I wouldn't say it's elegant, it is more of a dirty, but exciting smell.

Melted lipstick
Much of the hand-wringing over Times Square is down to the company’s own copy, which described garbage cans full to the brim with fruit peel on a hot day, dusty pavements, prostitutes, and smashed up lipstick. Accordingly, because none of us can smell let alone think for ourselves, most of the early reviews trashed (pun intended) Times Square for precisely the dirty, garbagey smell or the cheap hooker-heel vinyl effect the copy said it was aiming for.

Not a bit of it. Times Square is a violet-osmanthus loukhoum-and-lipstick scent that actually smells quite a lot like I Miss Violet (The Different Company), Niral (Neela Vermeire) and Traversée du Bosphore (L’Artisan Parfumeur), only a lot stronger, muskier, and frooty-tooty-er. Sure, it smells a bit trashy, but only because loukhoum and lipstick can themselves be a little cheap-smelling (waxes, gelatin, rosewater, powdered sugar), rather than smelling literally of trash. This is a fun, offbeat scent – think cubes of osmanthus-flavored lokhoum, rosy, off-brand lipstick, and sugared violets. A thick suede accord shows up later, to support all the lovely silliness up top.

ruberry floral
a weirdly disjointed fragrance, it's like an overripe apricot thing coming from the osmanthus, a rubbery burnt thing coming from the styrax, and a super powdery and stuffy violet note. Just a messy composition that has very little grace to it in my opinion, and I typically love these notes but find them so muddled here and clashing heavily. Just a ruberry, powdery, badly fruity floral scent.

My lipgloss brings all the boys to the yard
Times Square has been at the top of my wishlist for a few months now, ever since I saw it among the new releases here on Parfumo and discovered the word "lipstick" in the pyramid.
So this morning, I jumped out of bed, packed my kids and essentials, and made my way to the Kurfürstenparfümerie.
Now I have been wearing Times Square since 10 AM this morning, because when the store opened, I was already there and had Times Square sprayed on my right and the other new Masque, "Mandala," on my left.

So far, I can say this about the scent development:
Times Square indeed starts with a lipstick note, but it has turned out to be quite sweet and fruity (raspberries? cherries? I can't quite define them). The peachiness of the osmanthus is also clearly present. When I saw the packaging in front of me, I could read that the top note includes "glossy lip stick notes," which makes much more sense: the lipstick accord is much more of a lipgloss accord.

As a counterbalance to the sweet lipgloss, there are leathery-bitter notes, and yes, I can even clearly recognize the hazelnut, which contributes to the bitterness on one hand, while also bringing a lovely creaminess like a hazelnut spread. However, I don't find the scent to be gourmand at all.

The sweetness fades into the background after just 10 minutes, making way for powdery violets and more of the leathery notes. Additionally, I would guess there is a carrot-like iris. Now I find the scent more interesting, as it feels less youthful. The gloss turns back into a stick.

After three and a half hours, the scent is still quite perceptible, but a bit soft, and here the sandalwood is clearly the leading note. I don't think much more will happen, and that's why I'm writing my comment now. The longevity will be added later.

I believe that Times Square fits into the lineup of other Masque fragrances as a complex, harmonious, and valuable composition.

However, it also reminds me of the somewhat misguided song by Kelis ("Milkshake") with its initial lipglossiness, which isn't a bad thing, as Times Square would certainly suit a quirky and extremely self-confident woman quite well.

Blehg for the opening that almost kills a nice osmanthus. No styrax to me. A bit halitosey. Dry saliva on hand.

Drydown has me wanting a mirror to check my teeth for a gaudy smudge of waxy Wet n' Wild cherry red lipstick. Kinda dig it.

Potent lipstick + osmanthus scent. Heavy, fruity, floral.

Fruity open followed by a fairly simple woody-powdery scent. Blend wise reminiscent of BDK's product. Unisex, spring-fall. Meh performance.
