Does Hawaii really smell like this?
I am always on the lookout for the “tropical island” scent. And in some airport duty-free perfumery, I discovered the Michael Kors Island range, including this “Hawaii.”
It’s a nice fragrance, a bit fruity at first and then floral. Orange mixed with jasmine. The orange might be a bit “sharp,” but then jasmine, in just the right dosage-not too much, as it would quickly become “sharp” too, and not too little so that it “gets lost.” After a while, the fruity note completely fades, and the remaining jasmine note blends with a woody, balsamic scent. I thought for a long time about what this reminded me of; somehow it felt so familiar.
Then, when I was chopping wood for our tiled stove, it hit me: tree resin!
The base note of the “Hawaii” perfume smells like fresh resin with a hint of jasmine and sandalwood.
In my eyes, it’s a very interesting scent, not everyday and something different.
However, I secretly hope that Hawaii doesn’t smell like this. :)
Personally, I am a bit disappointed. I actually expected a completely different fragrance: a scent that reminds me of a tropical island, the heavy-sweet scent of exotic flowers and fruits, of beach and sea, and not the smell of the Hawaiian forest.
