Does not do what it says on the label

Not your typical amber at all. Instead an open-faced freshness and unexpected lightness in the top-notes followed by a reliable old friend, jasmine, resting on a base of synthetic sandalwood. Does not send out those pretty definite vibes of ambery sensuousness at all, but lets you feel free and easy. A welcome change from those heavies you are supposed to feel "sexy" in - but why the misleading name? Apart from that: the pungency of the synthetic base spoils the whole thing for me. An acceptable artificial sandalwood is notoriously difficult to produce, but the one used in "Sexy Amber" is particularly unpleasant. The drydown reminds me of Estee Lauder's "Modern Muse", not by chance created by the same perfumer.

Back to the Future

This is very Johnson & Johnson Baby Oily smelling for the first 10 minutes and then they throw this meaty sensual deep amber, wood and a dirty musk down on you. She's a Maniac! It's rather synthetic and juxtaposition and odd. Sexy Amber has better sillage than the Sporty Citrus fragrance from this line, and I guess this could smell subtly sexy on "someone, somewhere...in Summertime"...but as for me, amber must be well-dressed and more shrouded to win me over. Obviously something about this scent has triggered a 1980's-1990's flashback. Sexy Amber is reminiscent of many of the "Hungry Like the Wolf"-come-hither fragrances of that genre. I categorized the popular women's scents from that time into 4-5 main categories (I was in highschool, and we supposed to be laying down some kind of order/patterns in life. 1. Prissy/Wealthy/Clean/Crabtree Spring Rain & AnaisAnais, White Linen-2) EuroCool/hipster/Retrochic/Timeless- Chanel /Loulou/Joy 3) Cheap but sexy- Emeraude/Exclamation/Halston, 4) Expensive, loud and Sexy- Ysatis/Paris/Poison/Giorgio/Amarige/Fracas. This scent is somewhere between 3) and 5)I want to smell like a baby- Babysoft. I guess I will call this one "Crazy, Sexy, Cool" and hop back into my time machine to head home!

Subtle Amber

I wonder if this has such a low rating (6.9 as I'm writing this review!) because the name raises false expectations. "Sexy Amber" suggests something very warm, maybe even carnal, with heaps of resins, balsams and deep vanilla. And that's not what you'll find here.
It's a warm scent, but at the same time clean and creamy. The amber is quite understated, this is more of a floral musk to my nose. It smells like a thick white body cream on warm skin, with a bit of a classic perfumey touch. You know how shower creams, oils and lotions for dry skin often smell warmer than those for normal skin, without having a specific scent profile in their name? That's what this reminds me of.

It's a great every day fragrance for autumn, winter, early spring and disappointing rainy summers. Cozy, but clean. The sexiness is really subtle here, so it wouldn't be my first choice for going out at night. But maybe that would work, too, now that I think of it. A versatile scent!

Many have compared this to Chanel Allure, and I must admit that I'm not a Chanel girl and have only tried Allure on a blotter so far, just to compare these two. I found them similar, without being perfect dupes of each other. Of course Chanel sounds more glamorous than Michael Kors, but I think I prefer the humble Sexy Amber over Allure. Someday I will investigate further.

Wrong name

If you're looking for an amber forward perfume, this may be a letdown for you; if your looking for 'sexy', this also will disappoint. 'Sensual' maybe, but not 'sexy' (which, as far as I'm concerned, is in it's favour) But if you forget about the name and try it without searching for anything in particular, you could like or love this.
I sniffed it in the shop, just picking up a bottle without really looking at the name and, sniffing just the bottle, I thought: 'Samsara!'. Apparantly the sandelwood is at the top of the notes. When it dries down on the skin, the other notes interfere and, though I still smell a 'Samsara-ish' kind of sandelwood in the distance, it becomes a bit more perfume-y, woody and a little powdery and soft and it goes in an other direction. Some compare it to Allure, but that is far more 'bright' and less warm in my opinion.
I don't get anything animalic or dirty like some say on different websites.
Reviews for this scent are very polarizing, so I don't think one should blind buy this.
I really like the scent and think it can be a love for me in fall and winter. It's not too special or groundbraking when sniffling the skin directly after drydown, but there's something in it's sillage (which is strong, so easy on the trigger) that is quite lovely and - though maybe not 'plain sexy' - seductive.

Artificial and blank

I've really tried to make friendship with this perfume and I've failed. It is something artificial and cheap in it. Generally it is a nice scent but in the indifferent way. Safe in all situation, time of day, season. Unnoticable, blank, perfect to hide your personality. In that case what is a reason to wear it…
It is no sexy at all, there is no amber in it. Failure. I really love perfumes and don't cross them very easy. But this one I will never pick up again. And the price is definitely to high to quality.
