My absolute favorite fragrance
The headline says it all. This fragrance is great class.
From the outset, Amouage Epic Man captivates with the smell of pink pepper. Pink pepper is, in my view, an absolutely first-class, but unfortunately far too rarely used fragrance note. I particularly like the combination of sweetness and the peppery spiciness at the same time. Both in one works in my opinion attractive, but elegant and steadfast at the same time.
After a few minutes, resins, wood and a leathery component join the pink pepper and give the fragrance a much more masculine and steadfast character. The fragrance is especially by the resins and I guess also some myrrh now clearly further developed. As it progresses, more spices join in and round out the perfume elegantly. Particularly out I smell saffron, which is basically a spice of class and geranium, which gives the fragrance a slightly mystical aura.
Who can wear this fragrance?
I don't see an age limit for Amouage Epic Man. From my point of view, it is a fragrance that fits especially on charismatics.
What does the fragrance exude?
"Everything under control." Amouage Epic Man is steadfast and determined like a boss, and at the same time sweet and fall-able like a good lover. Additionally, this fragrance exudes trustworthiness, which fits both the boss and the lover .
Although I would not have thought it possible myself: girls tend to like this fragrance very much. At least those from 20

The epic Geralt of Rivia
"Epic" - what does that actually mean? For many, it is certainly a synonym for "awesome" or "crass", especially when something is long and extravagant. Yet "epic" has become known in this meaning especially in youth language, especially in connection with "epic fail". In 2011, the term even reached second place in the election of the "Youth Word of the Year". Especially in the "gamer community" often used, for example, when it comes to epic battles or battles. There are also - quite simply - "epic games", which often means long, well-told and profound stories within a game. And here we approach the actual meaning of "epic" - namely "narrative, telling, reporting", i.e. a text form which belongs to the literary genre of epic and thus represents one of the three major categories of literature alongside poetry and drama. "Lyric Man" there is already known by Amouage; "Dramatic Man" would be but also a great name for a fragrance.

Here but now so an epic epic to "Epic"...

The locket from the Witcher Geralt of Riva began to vibrate, as it always did when there was a source of magic nearby. The witch's amulet depicted a wolf's head - the symbol of the witch's profession and brotherhood. In addition, the necklace began to glow smoldering red, which was an unmistakable sign that monsters or monstrosities were nearby.

Suddenly Geralt heard a scream, a scream such as could never have come from a human. It was a piercing scream, emitted from a distance and Geralt noticed how he was even pushed back a little by the force of the scream. It was broad daylight but to Geralt things were clear, he would be facing a Bruxa any moment, a very powerful type of vampire that took on the appearance of a dark haired young human, usually a woman. Bruxas were one of the few species of vampire that were not affected by the sun and can manipulate humans by altering their dreams and turning them into horrible nightmares.

A Bruxa was more than a challenge even for Geralt. This was a matter of life and death. Geralt pulled his silver sword from his back and readied himself. Then he saw the Bruxa; and his childhood suddenly replayed in his mind's eye.

Geralt was indeed a sorcerer, meaning he had supernatural abilities and was created to be a professional monster hunter, cleansing the world of monsters for the people. But this he had to pay dearly. As a young witch, he was separated from his parents at an early age and taken to a special witch school. There he was subjected to a "herbal test", a test which many students do not survive. But for those who do, the procedure of the herbal trial ends with the strengthening of the organism and the musculature and cannot be enchanted or hypnotized. The student becomes a mutant - the embodiment of a perfect warrior with faster reflexes, a heartbeat four times slower, and a keen sense of hearing.

As a "gift" for successfully passing the herbal test, Geralt of Riva received his own custom herbal tincture. This consisted mainly of cardamom, pink pepper, lots of myrrh, frankincense and also leather. The tincture, which was carefully applied to the neck and wrists, came in a green glass bottle, with an emblem on the front not unlike his wolf's head wizard medallion. Emblazoned on the magnetic cap of the stylish bottle was an equally green emerald, which seemed to Geralt as if it could look directly into his soul. Overall, the glass flacon looked to him as if it had been cast from royal jade.

The name of this concoction was "Epic" and that was how Geralt felt every time he applied the concoction - EPIC! Immediately after applying it, he perceived an inner strength and a striving for perfection every time. The pink pepper mixed with the incense gave him a feeling of spiciness and even some freshness every time. But at the same time, Geralt felt soothed by the also balsamic tone in the background. This was perfect to wake him up a bit and focus him on the tasks ahead. After a while though, the essence transformed and started to really pulse. A creaminess paired with a smokiness took over, which generally gave Geralt just the right balance to feel comfortable. After a few hours, the wood notes paired with the leather came through more and more strongly, and the smell of this marvel of alchemy transformed once again into a gentle, elegant, yet masculine companion for the night.

Geralt never felt more connected to nature than when "Epic" surrounded him, and the impression of the power of the forest being within him inspired him anew each time. Geralt preferred to wear his Epic in autumn and winter, but found it quite suitable for spring and cooler summer days as well. He also found that it suited his age well, Geralt being over 100 years old, thank mutation. For mere mortals, however, he found that this scent aura would be suitable for people over 30. Not that he planned on ever sharing his tincture with anyone...

The good thing about this true potion was that it radiated enough into the immediate surroundings to create two uses. His opponents in battle were usually infatuated long enough for Geralt to gain an advantage. However, women were not averse to Geralt either, not least because of his fragrant aura, which was due to "Epic". Although Geralt's facial expression was often motionless, as usual with sorcerers, he is - contrary to the usual insinuations - anything but insensitive; he loved the sorceress Yennefer von Vengerberg. And she had complimented Geralt on Epic not only once, and Yennefer had to know what made a good scent, after all, she was a famous mage and therefore familiar with elixirs by profession alone. She herself used the scent of lilac and gooseberry as perfume, which Geralt liked very much. But this was another story...

Just at the moment Geralt was snapped out of his thoughts of Yennefer, the Bruxa launched her first strike with her sharp teeth and claws. Deftly Geralt spun around with a pirouette and stroked the Bruxa's arm with his sword. The Bruxa cried out and retreated a bit. Geralt used this moment to take his green flask out of his breast pocket and wrap himself in an aura of magical energy. This fight was going to be epic..

Self-confidence to spray on
Please do not misunderstand the heading. Epic Man doesn't suddenly turn an introverted boy into a man bursting with self-confidence. But on the right days, it can have a reinforcing effect.
I can't wear it all the time myself. But it is my first choice when I need a certain appearance for a professional appointment or event. Here the scent works like an amplifier or catalyst, which emphasizes exactly the required property in me. One simply knows that the scent is perceived extremely strongly. This can polarize, and should be so. For everything else there is then the boss bottled of this world.

For me Epic is a mixture of slightly creamy and peppery incense, which has a wonderful leather base in front of it. The top note can deter the first nose, but develops on the skin after about half an hour to an hour to this addictive mix for me. The further course is actually rather linear. I don't perceive any extreme heart to base transformation. It only becomes softer and softer over time and - as I said - creamier for my nose. One should not expect any compliments from young ladies from this fragrance. The composition is simply too alien to the western noses for that.

The shelf life and silage are Amouage typical of madness. It is precisely against this background that the price also becomes relative. If you go fishing online - and wait for low prices - you can land it for 125€/100ml (Oman Version). Since 2 - 3 sprayers are enough, one has then also very long something of it.

By the way, I'm also interested in Amouage's story behind the house. Founded in the early 80s in Oman at the request of the Sultan. A gift for kings. Only pure ingredients from the region. And so on. You really have the feeling that you have some perfume history in your collection

5 course dinner
Any meal with more than two courses isn't about satisfying hunger, it's about having an experience. I, an American, am fond of the three-course meal, experience-lite. I see the value in a multi-course meal, but I won't go so far as to have a ten-course Titanic dinner, or a twenty one-course Versailles bacchanalia. To my mind, a classic five-course dinner is the height of luxury.

Amouage have been known to imitate French style. God knows they have made a few ten-course perfumes. Epic man is their five course meal. It is the perfect middle ground between opulent and edited.

Even the choral top notes tell you that there is an emphasis on bass: amber, frankincense, oud, tea. Tea? In a smart twist, Amouage do in fact include a tea-like note in Epic Man. It's the perfect modifier to the five course perfume, it enhances the smoky and aromatic qualities of the other basenotes without adding additional weight, or, stretching the analogy, a few more courses.

I tend to berate Amouage for their tedious male/female perfume releases, and I think they deserve it. Please, let’s spare perfume the his/hers baggage. Perfume at its abstract heart defies gender, and in specific, Epic Man raises gender neutrality to a peak by combining fine ingredients and the best of both eastern and western traditions in the service of simply making a beautiful fragrance. The resulting hybrid treats gender as it does ethnic culture. It acknowledges it at the same time that it refuses to be encumbered by it. Epic Man is a reminder to ignore the marketing and smell the perfume. If we must have a gender pairing, Epic Man should more likely be paired with Jubilation 25 for women. Both are the perfect examples Amouage’s stated mission to pair eastern materials and sensibilities with classical French perfumery. It's no wonder that Epic Man smells first and foremost like success.

A gentleman enjoys
I'm not so good with heavy Orientals. And maybe that's one of the reasons why I've been able to do without the creatures of the Omani Amouage fragrance smithy in Muscat so far. But a perfume from this Sultan's manufactory stuck in the back of my mind during a test two years ago, and that's Epic Man. Which now, as a pre-Christmas companion so to speak, has found its way into my home.

With 582 reviews, I actually asked myself if it was a waste of time and effort to write a number 583, but I think Epic deserves to be commented on once more. I won't go into all the ingredients again, this has already happened excessively and partly very detailed and very lovingly. Rather, I would like to give a newcomer an idea of what happens with this fragrance and also answer the question about a suitable Christmas present.

What is Epic man for a scent? Well, from the beginning he cannot (and will not) deny his Arab roots. But if in the past oriental perfumes either left me helpless or beamed me away by their opulence, this Amouage representative is a completely different caliber. Not using heavy ingredients from various sultanates, but finely woven structures that reveal a high level of craftsmanship.
However, Orientals are very often shown to their advantage very differently with different wearers, which is why I would absolutely recommend a skin test to everyone.

Contrary to my expectations (probably due to the deep green bottle), Epic doesn't start green or fresh but spicy and smoky right from the start. Often I find such a combination almost overwhelming and often smoke notes, especially when they smell of old, unventilated cigarette smoke, lead to a nausea in me. Surprisingly, and this speaks clearly for the quality here, this smoky background noise is an enormously pleasant undertone. This remains for hours and accompanies its wearer Rauf in a subtle way, always suggesting that he has fogged himself in with something of quite high quality. I can't diagnose any great changes from start to finish, frankincense and myrrh remain dominant, I find the scent even more interesting backwards because a bit of animal notes emerge.

Performance: yes, that's one of those things. I cannot understand the partly high valuations, at least not with regard to the Sillage. Where other fragrances can easily manage to take over my office for the rest of the day within an hour, nothing remains of the epic man. Nothing I find disappointing about the price point of an Amouagen. Interesting however, the durability. Cause it's on my skin for a casual eight hours plus. In this respect, it is a fragrance for connoisseurs who enjoy being enveloped in a very close scent cloud all day long.

The bottle is nicely made, a bit playful, as it is in Arab countries besides custom.

And the scent itself? A very fine, smoky and spicy fellow, who pleasantly wraps you up but doesn't annoy his surroundings. If you are looking for a superstar in terms of attention to the Sillage, you won't find much here. Dangerous as a Christmas present, because not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. For a perfume connoisseur, however, a wonderful extension of his collection.
