A Garden Heart for the East Westphalian
Summer morning in Italy, an overflowing awakening of nature, the birds are chirping in the cypress trees, everywhere is green, blooming, and wonderfully fragrant, the sun is slowly rising higher and gaining warming power.

“Mom, what is this here?! There are old lemons hanging everywhere on the trees?!”
“Come on, Dad, this is a typical Italian citrus garden, it says so in the travel guide!”
“What’s that supposed to be, an Italian lemon garden?!”
“Yeah, look, it says here! With lemons and bergamot ...”
“What’s that stuff, bergamot? I don’t know that!”
“But it smells amazing!!! Wonderful, right, Dad, tell me?!”
“It smells like it could smooth out the wrinkles from your face! I want a sunny vacation, not a sour one!”
“What nonsense! It smells fresh, not sour, you fool! Like an Italian citrus garden should smell!”
“How do you know that, Mom?! Are you from here? Not that I know of!”
“Oh Hebbert, be a little romantic, it’s nice here!”
“I’m East Westphalian, that’s enough, I don’t have to be romantic too!”
“Come on, take a sniff, something really fresh and tangy! It’s delicious!”
“Oh, you with your delicious! A nice beer would be something delicious, not those old Botox balls!”
“Huh? Botox?”
“Well, wrinkle-removing sour things!”
“Oh Hebbert ...! Now come on, let’s move on, look, there’s a rose garden!”
“Rose garden?! No, no, Hein always prefers a beer, believe me!”
“You can ruin everything! The rose garden! There! Don’t you see it?!”
“Oh no, now that old shrubbery too! With the thorns! I can’t stand that at home during gardening! Always this prickliness! Stupid stuff!”
“Heeeebbeeert, now let’s stop! The roses are so beautiful! One bigger than the other! And they smell ...!”
“It smells even worse here, like Grandma’s rose soap in the attic!”
“Yesss, really smells like rose. Great, right? And still smells of lemons and so on!”
“Lemons, roses... Man, oh man, what I would give for a nice beer!”
“Now stop with your beer! Enjoy the landscape instead!”
“Enjoy? At 35 degrees in the shade? My coffee water is already boiling in my backside! What do I care about the greenery! And look, Mom, they’re also dealing with that moss stuff! Like on our terrace with those concrete slabs!”
“No, I think it has to be like this...?!”
“How now?! That looks shabby!”
“No, no, it says on the sign: Explore our garden with all your senses and walk barefoot over our moss paths, experience the softness...”
“What kind of ridiculous nonsense is that! It’ll pull your pants down!”
“Oh Hebbert, you can’t look at anything on vacation with you!”
“Well then, we can now see where there’s a nice beer around here!”

And the summer wind carries the slightly tangy citrus scent into the rose garden, where the blossoms unfold in the sun of Italy in full splendor and compete in fragrance. Here and there, a single little pear tree can be found, with juicy delicious fruits. And while the moss quietly spreads its velvety green scent, very lightly, quite in the Italian manner, a hint of amber and musk as well as iris seems to merge with everything into a complete fragrance work...

Lovely! Or Too-Long-For-A-Statement-Comment
Coeur de Jardin I bought blindly in the hope of finding a fresh-floral everyday scent.
I didn't even do any research, which I usually do quite thoroughly. Luckily, because if I had known about the supposed pear-peach dominance, I might have left it on the shelf.
I'm not very good with pear. When I smell it, I often think of mushy-sweet pear compote, and with peaches, it's not much better; they often smell plastic-like or like cream yogurt flavor to me.

The "Garden Series" by Miller Harris is under the motto "jardins d'enfance," which means "gardens of childhood." This suggests something idyllic, and indeed, I feel transported to another place or, more importantly, to another season.
"Coeur de jardin" is for me: Spring!
However, despite all the idyll, the scent does not smell as innocent as the childhood memory association might suggest.

The top note reminds me of freshly sparkling champagne, possibly enhanced with something fruity like a Hugo cocktail. Maybe there's a party happening in the garden!? Fresh acidity is present, but I never find the scent to be "sour" or really citrusy.
I smell plenty of flowers at this point, without any single one standing out strongly. I can sniff out rose and jasmine if I make an effort.... and the base with its patchouli and moss notes is already present in hints. There’s also something dewy and moist throughout; I actually find the freshness in the scent to be "dew-fresh." Or it might have just rained recently, which wouldn’t be surprising in an English garden.
Overall, it is invigorating and clean, but in the base, it also has a certain human warmth - it is not an abandoned garden, and it possibly invites love-struck couples in its cozy corners to get to know each other better ;-).

Now to my ominous title: Perhaps some of you thought of Sarah Jessica Parker's "Lovely" and you're not too far off. However, it is by no means a twin to that. I once had Lovely and, despite several attempts, I couldn't make it "smell nice." However, I had actually imagined Lovely to smell exactly like "Coeur de Jardin" does:
A refreshing alcoholic drink, without smelling boozy, a fresh-floral-clean component, and a decidedly sensual base. You can wear it not only to work and in everyday life but also to an evening garden party. By the way, I've already received compliments, so it doesn't seem to be as weak as I initially thought.
So, anyone who is already feeling a bit of longing for spring is guaranteed to do nothing wrong with this :-).

A modern Chypre or Fruitychouli. I like it
I finally got "Coeur de Jardin." Blindly, I placed a lot of trust in the comments of bloggers and the altruism. And what can I say about my impressions?

They are not what I expected, but definitely very positive. For me, the scent is not a garden as the name suggests. At least, that’s not how I envision a garden. In my opinion, the scent lacks the earthy and green notes (which should relatively dominate). No, the scent is not green and not particularly floral.

It can best be described as herb-sweet or compared to a fragrant honey.
The scent is definitely fruity-sweet. An overripe pear lies at its heart. But that's not all. The scent is chypre-like, especially at the beginning, with its very distinctive opening.

Ripe pears and peaches gain more bitterness and zest through skillful hesperidic notes; I believe I also perceive moss and patchouli right at the start. The scent even reminds me a bit of "Mitsouko" by Guerlain in this fantastic phase. In the heart, the scent becomes a bit less bitter and zesty, and more rounded and honey-pear-sweet. But you can't simply call the olfactory impression straightforward. The base is warm, soft, beautiful, and erotic: musky-vanilla (with minimal patchouli) and in a refined way.

The scent lasts incredibly well on the skin-actually all day! (Unusual for Miller Harris) and has a moderate projection, especially in the first 4-5 hours, particularly if you spray it additionally in your hair or on your clothes (where it, however, loses some of its chypre-like qualities).

Conclusion: a dreamily good and unique scent. A clear recommendation from someone who normally does not like sweet-fruity fragrances. This one is somehow quite special.

the garden
Miller Harris has interpreted a garden in quite a unique way. Where one might expect opulent floral notes due to the name, one is quickly enlightened otherwise.
Upon spraying, the zesty, sour freshness of the citrus notes immediately sets in, with a slight fruity sweetness from pear and peach. Here, a pleasant freshness effect is created, making the fragrance feel airy.
However, the heart note quickly reveals itself as quite undefined. A jumble of rose, jasmine, tuberose, and vanilla almost suffocates the initially fresh scent. Additionally, a dull, powdery note from the base quickly joins in. The earthy patchouli, moss, and powdery iris send clear signals to the heart note. On one hand, this significantly dampens the floral lift of the heart note, while on the other hand, I find the dull undertone unappealing. A real contrast.
Moss, patchouli, and iris certainly set the tone, even though the fruit and floral notes of the top/heart note are still perceptible in the background; everything feels somewhat restrained.
Was it Miller Harris's intention to give the fragrance a kind of richness in facets, or did they simply want to distinguish themselves from the typical floral scents? If the goal was to capture the entire spectrum of garden fragrances, then I don’t think they succeeded here.
Due to the dominant players patchouli, moss, and iris, the base struggles to contribute further nuances. Amber and musk almost get lost in the overpowering presence of their counterparts. One can perceive traces of them, which make the base softly fade away.
Be that as it may, the fragrance will polarize.
But perhaps it is precisely the contrast that sets the fragrance apart from the crowd and makes it interesting?!
The longevity is around 4-5 hours, and the sillage is moderate. Close to the skin, the scent lasts longer.

A Bouquet of Roses for Older Ladies
I enter a small flower shop. I am looking for a bouquet for my neighbor. Behind the counter, an older lady greets me with a sweet pear-peach drink. I thank her and try a glass of it. I taste a very slight hint of lemon that quickly fades away. Too bad, I think, it could have been a bit stronger in my opinion. I finish the glass and look around the shop. In the heart of the shop, I discover many roses on an earthy, mossy base. Could this make a beautiful bouquet for my neighbor? She is already a bit older and loves roses - unlike me. Her beloved rose perfumes almost overwhelm me when she briefly invites me into her apartment to chat. I blink and also spot jasmine, which strikes the sea of roses with a tuberose-soaked pillow. A pillow fight with white, but somewhat dirty patchouli-musk pillows from the earth. Wow, the tempers are heated... they are really going at it! There’s hardly any time to catch a breath. It’s already exhausting for me just to watch. The older lady with her calm demeanor endures it all much more serenely than I do. I think I am too young for this, but for my neighbor, it could be just the right thing.

Conclusion: In my opinion, the scent is not young or playful, but rather more composed overall. One could say it is quite mature in a certain way, which can also be a positive trait, but in this case, it unfortunately comes across as somewhat old-fashioned or a bit stuffy to me. Stuffy is not meant in a derogatory sense here, but rather in the sense of being correct, conventional, and unexciting. If you like floral (rosy!!) scents and can identify with it, go for it.

Soft pretty peachy rose, but faint — I have to press my nose right up against my wrist. Ultimately so fleeting that it's not worth the price

The bumblebee buzzes at dawn to the little lemon tree. Then it tests jasmine and roses. Finally, it settles down in the damp moss.

A flower meadow by the bank of a babbling brook. Ripe pears lie in the grass. Fruity-floral-green, slightly powdery. Neither sweet nor opulent.

Zesty lemon, clean pear + velvety peach in the fruit bowl. Plus a bouquet of flowers. In the dry down warm, creamy, musky fluff. Beautiful!

A bit too much rose, but a true spring garden with lots of light and white flowers dusting from the trees. Beautiful!

Lemon and pear come across fresh and a bit synthetic, then it becomes softer, warmer & more sensual thanks to the flowers, but not too sweet.

Very English, fresh, natural, slightly bitter floral scent. Interspersed with fruit, citrus, and subtle powder. Too sour for me.

Summer garden delights with many fruits and flowers by the Mediterranean; at the base, the hidden temptation to lose oneself in the scent.
