A good perfume with almost oud ....
What a beautiful perfume !! It is a beautiful pictorial work, executed with exotic wood paint on a canvas of spices and flowers, with a sweet frame of amber and labdanum, and hung on an elegant wall with a citrus stand, and all this exposed so you can immerse yourself in it contemplating him.

It opens with a very spicy woody note, floral and a little citrus. A fresh and powdered scent, which I love. This exit only lasts a moment and soon the heliotrope appears and almost eclipses everything, showing us a floral note a little powdered, with a vaporous effluvia of spices and balsams, on a woody background dirty and rough, but with a sweet and medicated reflection, very pretty. From here, it is accentuating the note of oud on a sweet and spicy background, an affable and cordial oud, without that medicated and dirty touch, a woody oud, subtly smoked and always framed by that warmth and sweetness of amber and labdanum . An oriental woody perfume, elegant and refined, with a bright aroma.

From this Monotheme "Black Label" collection I have tested 3 out of 4, I just need "Leather" and so far this is the worst performance, which does not mean it has a bad performance, but his brothers are superior, "Black Oud "has remained on my skin for 7 hours with a moderate wake, nothing spectacular, but if we look at its price, things improve, Quality / Price excellent.

At first, its aroma, it is very nocturnal, but due to its moderate projection, it is equally usable during the day, so, everyone who uses it when it pleases, yes, it is an aroma of cold and temperate climates.

If I had enjoyed a somewhat superior performance, it would have been a perfume of 10, although if you are looking for something of this style, it is a highly recommended perfume and with a very good price.

Tragic pancake
Among the four offerings in the Black Label range created by Monotheme, this is by far the worst of them all. Total “no” for me: even for such a low price, it’s completely tragic in my opinion. Basically, I get neither “oud” (not even the most synthetic one), nor the “black”. Black Oud is on the contrary a sort of white-gray gourmand, quite soapy and heavily synthetic, which smells something halfway a cheap bath soap, glass cleaner liquid, and one of those “mixed flavours” bags for cakes in which there’s vanillin, cinnamon and so on. It’s a bit powdery, a bit resinous, a bit woody, a bit clumsily close to many “white” musky gourmands, with a horrifying plastic heliotrope note – never smelled such a bad one in my experience (the same for carnation, as soon as you get it). Plus, it’s much powerful, and cloyingly persistent for hours. On the (heavily linear) drydown it pops out at some point a sort of oudish whiff, but it’s barely perceivable and smells more just like a hint of rubber. Cheap to any extent and unworthy the price, even if it’s too low.

Budget Black Oud
A quick stroll through Marks and Spencer's beauty department a few days ago afforded me the opportunity of trying some Monotheme fragrances, a company that is new to me. If you enjoy Oud and are not willing to pay some of the exorbitant prices it goes for, then this £22 offering should be right up your alley.

From what I can tell, Monotheme is an Italian outfit, and I'd love to know where these fragrances are formulated.
Black Label - Black Oud opens with a colourful, orange peppery-ness before a sweetened Labdanum/Oud accord takes over. There is a warmth provided here too with the addition of a very controlled and delicate Clove … something I never thought I'd say about this spicy note! I'm really impressed that this fragrance doesn't contain the obligatory Musk undertone that many 'Black' Oud offerings do … not that I dislike the Musk in, for example, Montale's Balck Aoud … which I also love but rarely wear anymore.
This Monotheme offering moves in a different direction, sweetening up the woodsy dry down with a beautifully vanillic Amber. While the Oud note here is probably synthetic, it is rather convincing in the company of a well thought our Wood accord. Soft and smooth, the Oud here stays well out of medicinal territory and comes off as relatively light when compared with some others I have tried.

I may have titled this review 'budget', but that refers only to the nominal asking price of a 100ml bottle of this lovely fragrance. Black Label - Black Oud is a fantastic discovery … one that will find a regular place in my rotation.
