Gorgeous Abstract Coffee Shop aroma
There is nothing like enjoying the day starting it with a cup of coffee! I identify myself with this motto and I feel delighted with Cafe Diem, a composition that puts the coffe aroma in a contemplative mood, merging its roasted dark nuances to a thick and woody smoky incense. Altough this is one of the most direct creations from Paul, in the sense that you can easily point out the two main notes, there are other nuances on its perfume acting at the second plane, completing the image he wants to form. Inspired by a Renoir painting, "The Cafe", it captures the aura of a parisien cafe, where the roasted and dry coffee bean smell gets mixture with the spices that flavours it, with the incense that aromatize the ambience and with the ellegant woody and floral perfumes that seems to come from the gentlemans and ladies that frequents it. What i captire from this environment is, as i said before, firstly the coffee and incense. Then, my nose seems to focus on the spices, the smell of cinnamon, clove and mainly the cardamom, that gives a discreet sweet creamy smell that mixes well with the hot resin aroma of incense. The woody aromas create the masculine side of its idea, the perfume that comes from the gentlemans in this parisien cafe. It mixes with the incense, giving it sometimes a green and dry impression (probably due the hinoki and cypress) and other times it gives it a woody aroma that reminds you of grass, something typical of vetiver. The feminine part here is very subtle, a discreet flowery dance that rounds the woods, incense and coffee, and it's mixed to a cream of vanilla and tonka, that goes into small doses in some special drink being prepared on this coffee shop. It's an environment that seems frozen on time, captured on tis best moment, to be enjoyed as if the day hasn't an end.

Throat Cleaner
The phrase borrowed from the quote: "Carpe diem et respice finem" (seize/pick the day - leisurely - and consider the end) has been distorted into an incomprehensible "Cafè Diem" ("coffee the day?"). I won't dissect this further; it might be intended as a joke.
But if it mentions coffee and it's the first ingredient listed, then it should be smelled.
However, I don't smell any "coffee" in "Cafè Diem" at all. Neither fermented, unroasted (which smell musty) coffee beans nor the fragrant roasted ones. I don't know what the fresh pulp smells like when you remove the beans from the inside of the coffee cherry; it could smell fresh. Coffee blossoms smell somewhat like jasmine. Fortunately, I couldn't detect this note in "Cafè Diem." I mean that "Arabica café" implies a certain idea and expectation for us. But what if that's not the intention at all?
I often wonder about this when perceiving perfumes compared to the pyramids and ingredients.
Because "Cafè Diem" smells like a proper throat cleaner, in this case, somewhat like a barely sweet herbal bitter. In that respect, it is also a gourmand.
I immediately smell a minty fresh and very sharp mixture after the alcohol evaporates. Cardamom, sage (not the muscatel sage, but a minty one), mimosa, a bright incense, vetiver, and woods can be perceived together with a cool fresh scent note reminiscent of sparkling spring water. I can't identify or smell any of the other mentioned ingredients.
But I can hardly imagine what a sharp tincture "Cafè Diem" could be if it weren't softened by tonka, rose, cypress (which has a mild milky scent), and musk.
Even so, "Cafè Diem" is like a throat cleaner; that's what sharp and high-proof alcoholic beverages are called. Whether there are whisky notes in it, I wouldn't dare to doubt, especially after I gifted my husband a bottle of Irish Connemara whisky for Christmas, which smells exactly like "Hylnds - Bitter Rose, broken Spear" by D.S. & Durga. We joked that I should have bought 0.75 liters of this whisky, as it would be much cheaper, and I got permission to fill a pocket atomizer with the Connemara. No, I don't drink alcohol, but I can allow myself to sniff cautiously.
But seriously, there are whiskies with all sorts of flavor notes, even banana. It depends on the barrels in which the whisky must age, which were previously used for aging sherry and other wine blends to mature and evaporate into heavy sweet wines.
So I can't know which whisky is meant here.
That's all I can say about the scent of "Cafè Diem." I like "Cafè Diem" regardless of the somewhat silly name. Here, more, different, and better is offered than promised.
A fresh, cool, sharp, multi-aromatic, non-floral, resinous-woody, slightly smoky invigorating scent. I don't perceive any animalistic hints. "Cafè Diem" is already something special, but not so experimental and unusual that one would have to wonder if it's still a perfume or just a smell. "Cafè Diem" is undoubtedly a perfume, which I also consider unisex. Longevity and sillage leave nothing to be desired. There is a distant similarity for me to "1828 Jules Verne" by Histoires de Parfums. However, "1828 Jules Verne" is less complex and smells very much of menthol and eucalyptus.
"Cafè Diem" would be a welcome addition to my perfume collection.

Coffee with a hint of cypress, then spices come in and the coffee remains faint. Not intense enough for me.

The coffee in the name is confusing. It's lighter and fresher than expected. Still, the coffee is noticeable and makes it more mature. (...)

Cardamom and coffee (which is overshadowed here). Then comes whisky, cypress, and fine incense. In the drydown, it becomes woody and even green.

Schnapps with coffee-spice aroma spilled fresh on a wooden table... the alcohol note fades quickly.

Spiced incense with bitter herbs and dark molasses: it has something (but don't expect coffee).

Woody, herbal, lightly minty and subtly smoky, more intimate. Quite pleasant, but who gave it that silly name?

Rather resinous and spicy. Coffee is noticeable, but more in the background. Complex and quite interesting, but a bit too intense for me.
