The Overwhelming Bust
Hello everyone, welcome to my fragrance description of “Promesse de l‘Aube” by MDCI. So, this fragrance brand has surely caught the attention of most of you here, as their bottles always have such great closures. You see busts there, and each fragrance features a different one. Of course, the bust editions of the fragrances are much more expensive and limited, but I personally think it’s just wonderful that there are such bottles available.

Those who know me might be aware that I have a rather playful personality (and nooooo, I don’t mean that I play with my Star Wars figures, nor with comic characters like Supergirl and Power Girl, although… those two girls are quite hot and… hrmm… no no, no details here, I’d rather continue with the fragrance :D). Therefore, I also like it when bottles are not always made from boring, rectangular (or simple, cylindrical) containers but are sometimes as extravagant as this one. I know most of you probably prefer the simple bottles, but that’s surely because you’re all a bit clumsy like a good friend of mine and can’t hold the extravagant bottles properly, let alone spray them without dropping the bottle on the floor…, yeah, that’s the real reason, isn’t it? :D
But don’t worry, if it comforts you, clumsiness is actually quite cute in you girls, as long as you don’t mess around with my Lego Star Wars spaceships and drop them, argh (and nooooo, I don’t play with the spaceships either,… sigh, I always have to explain and justify everything, a vicious cycle… :D).

Alright, let’s get to the fragrance now!

The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts with citrus notes and a slightly piercing scent note that I can’t quite identify. It could be the Ylang-Ylang, but Ylang usually smells rather heavy floral and sultry. Maybe the top note is also slightly off, but I can’t say for sure yet. Luckily, you only smell this piercing scent note very briefly, so it might just be that one of the notes in the top note wasn’t quite intact.
Later, you can mainly smell the fragrance notes listed here, especially jasmine and a lot of Ylang-Ylang, with the latter unfortunately making the fragrance quite sultry and opulent as described (and as I feared). If you don’t like that sort of thing, then you won’t be able to appreciate the entire fragrance.
Because the Ylang-Ylang remains quite present even in the base. Although the base features softer and warmer notes like vanilla and tonka bean, which are usually a dream team, I find that the Ylang-Ylang (as well as a rather dry note in the background) pulls the fragrance down significantly, but that only applies to people like me who, as mentioned, don’t like Ylang. If you do like Ylang, then you will surely enjoy the rest of the fragrance even more. But for me, I’m gradually suffocating as the Ylang seems to get stronger the longer it clings to my skin...

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is good, not outstanding, but detectable for a while near someone. You don’t have to get too close to smell it. The longevity is also very good; the fragrance was still quite strong on me after six to seven hours. I think it lasts much longer, but I washed it off because I couldn’t stand the Ylang scent any longer.

The Bottle:
Hmm, if I understood correctly, there are two versions of the bottles: the regular cylindrical bottles, which look simple but are high quality with golden accents and beautiful tassels as attachments, as well as the bust edition, where each fragrance has a special bust as a closure and which looks much more beautiful but is unfortunately also considerably more expensive. My rating refers to the bust version because it is so much more extravagant and wonderful.

Conclusion:
So… okay, you’ve probably noticed that I was a bit negative towards this fragrance. Unfortunately, that’s the case because Ylang-Ylang is one of the main notes here and this note radiates quite strongly. And it belongs to my absolute “no-way” scent notes because I simply can’t stand the smell. It’s so sultry, so overwhelming and suffocating that you can hardly catch your breath. Especially in summer, such scent notes are particularly dreadful; now I can at least wash my arm a few times and air out the room since it’s still cold outside! Try doing that in the middle of summer during a heatwave and you’ll be in serious trouble! :D

But well, those who don’t mind Ylang will surely get a nice fragrance here, which, however, is still not extraordinary but smells more like a well-made or high-quality, opulent floral scent, nothing more, making the price for this fragrance seem simply too high. If anything, the fragrance would be more suitable for bottle lovers or collectors of extravagant bottles, as you can definitely find such a scent in much cheaper perfumes as well. Otherwise, the fragrance would only be wearable on cold days, as it could be unbearable for everyone else in summer :D
What a pity, but I expected a better fragrance from MDCI...

Well, as I said: Bottle great, fragrance rather not, but to each their own. I mean, you don’t like my collectible figures from Star Wars and comics and so (you weirdos, you… :D).

That’s it from me again, I wish you all a lovely evening, see you later :)

The Count is Snoring Away.

In a small old castle, in a small old park lies a small, not quite so old man next to his slightly larger young wife, snoring. The morning is dawning. She couldn't sleep all night again because of his snoring. She pinches his nose, but he just grumbles, snorts, and continues to snore. She is annoyed. Last night was again a total bust. Not even Viagra helped. They should really work on preserving the old line. He from old nobility, but impoverished, she from new money. Oh, Dad insisted that she marry him. The one with his millions! He wanted so much for her to become a “von und zu,” but sometimes she would rather just run away.
The countly husband was the last of his line. His mother, who was so noble that she yawned through her nose, still lived in the basement of the castle. She feared that the family would die out and urged her to marry a commoner for the sake of blood renewal. They were of noble inbreeding, but as it often goes after generations, the inbreeding doesn’t work well for reproduction anymore.
She gets up, throws on her satin morning robe (the old miser didn’t even spend HER money on a silk negligee). She goes to the orangery and breathes in the scent of the lemon - and orange trees. Yellow ylang-ylang flowers hang from still young trees, exuding sweetness and loveliness. Only a hint of jasmine wafts by. The sun peeks in, and she wonders what she is doing here:
With scents that quickly fade and are just sound but no smoke, like an expensive perfume that doesn’t live up to expectations.
With the boring count, who would rather play chess with his dull old uncle Gottfried (the black sheep of the family. He used to be quite the rogue. Shot off the arms of the statues in the park and performed as a drag queen), than make an effort to reproduce.
Daily tea time with Aunt Minna and her vanilla cakes! And he constantly lumbers around with that sandalwood cane, which is already quite worn out.
The next time the morning dawns and nothing has happened again, she will take a young lover and sneak a pregnancy under the old bone's vest.

Nice, flattering, but for this price...?
What can one write about this fragrance? It is not very complex.
A brief, fresh, slightly lemony opening. But then, soft floral, fruity-sweet notes quickly spread. After about two hours, a delicate green-mild hint remains (which I cannot attribute to any specific plant, as I lack the knowledge). The longevity seems above average, meaning at least four to five hours.
All in all, a pretty, soft, flattering, sweet, noble scent, but nothing extraordinary when considering the expectations associated with a perfume in this price range. But perhaps it is unrealistic to have special expectations. The "Promesse de l'Aube" is simply nice.

"The Promise in the Dawn"
is the name of the fragrance translated. Sounds great... I had to test it, especially since I find this bottle really classy.
The scent starts off zesty and fresh with citrus notes, which ones I can't quite identify, very intense, almost piercingly lemony.
Fortunately, other, softer and warmer fragrance components join in, taking away the initial "sharpness" of the perfume. At first, there's a hint of jasmine, very subtle, light, and buoyant. Yet, nothing here reminds me of a dawn.
But then it becomes creamy - Ylang-Ylang, sandalwood, tonka bean with a touch of vanilla blend into a warm potpourri. No trace of the fresh citrus notes remains. Now it reminds me more of a sunrise, bathing the world in a warm, orange light with its first rays.
After the somewhat unsuccessful opening in my eyes, it does become a harmonious perfume, where the individual notes complement each other well. Over time, it appears very elegant to me, truly very classically "ladylike".

For me personally, however, the scent is not an option, even though the bottle with the classic bust would certainly look good in my bathroom. :)

On one hand, I don't particularly like Ylang-Ylang, and this fragrance is carried by that note, and on the other hand, the price is simply too high for me, even though I appreciate the craftsmanship of the bottle designer and the perfumer.

Very classic aura: citrus opening, then white flowers, then a woody base. There's a slight heaviness that creates tension. Good!

In the morning while walking the dog, he promises to relieve himself under a jasmine bush. Indol, just wash it off.

Something rare "fruity-floral" that I like. Starts a bit citrusy-green, then gets more "ylang-ier" with a nostalgic vibe. Sweet creamy base.

reminds me of Guerlain 190th Anniversary, warm citrus notes + creamy sandalwood.
In the heart note, strong ylang + jasmine, the beautiful sandalwood remains.

Floral scent dream, fruity with sweet mandarin on top. And unfortunately fleeting like its name: Dawn..

Citrusy floral elegance. The scent is not loud. Great for the office. A delight for Neroli lovers. Expensive with APOM DNA.
