Very dry wood, with spice and resin
The Portrait of Pierre Seriziat, which this perfume is based on, is an oil painting of a wealthy Frenchman who lived just outside of Paris. The painting was done in 1795.
I can't imagine anything about that painting, or Paris in the late 1700's that this scent would represent. If I had to create an image based on the scent it would be a wooden ship that has crashed on the sandy shore that was willed with casks of rum. The casks have all broken and the liquid spilled out and the wood has become very dry. Take that wood, and smell it and you get a very spicy, resinous, extremely dry fragrance.
Takes spices incense, cadamom, cumin, frankincense and add a heavy dose of sandalwood for the first hour or two, after that more musk appears in the base and that is L'Elégant.
It's a scent that hits the back of your throat when you smell it, and it's so dry it feels like you've just licked that piece of wood I described earlier.
This has virtually no projection throughout and very quickly (within an hour) is already in the dry down stage. It's close to skin, but the resinous base makes it last.
