Tropical dream
This has been described – by the perfumer himself – as a suntan oil and flip flops kind of beach scent, while Luca Turin thinks it is a midway point between Jicky and Fracas. Going out on a limb here, neither of those are particularly accurate. To the first point, this is no suntan oil bit of fluff. It is a serious piece of floral perfumery – big, classical, sensuous. To the second, the dirtiness that Turin identifies as Jicky-esque is more the moist, body odor-ish roundness of cumin than the sharp, herbal (and dare I say masculine) civet that is the secret to the Guerlain. In truth, Un Bel Amour d’Été comes shockingly close to vintage Songes by Annick Goutal, specifically the eau de parfum version, with a side swipe of the spicy-milky tuberose bread pudding that is Alamut (Lorenzo Villoresi).

But there are key differences. The first bright, creamy explosion of tuberose and gardenia (for a few minutes, this is clearly a stunning gardenia recreation) is far more savory – saline almost – with a bready nuance that smells like the apricot-jam-slathered sandalwood of Jeux de Peau, a clear departure from the grapier nuances of Songes’ jasmine and ylang notes. Further differentiating it are a greenish ‘snapped leaf’ note, something that smells like red modelling clay, and a coarse apricot note so resinous it feels like the last, thick dregs of a carton of peach juice that burn your throat as they go down. The cumin and turmeric notes are also more audaciously spicy.

But in all honesty, it is more like vintage Songes than not. The opening is as momentously floral, powerful to the point of being pungent, and it is also similarly intensely cuminy. Both are extremely sensual – beads of glossy lady-sweat popping out and then drying on the surface of Carmen Miranda’s skin under that Bahia style dress. Though Un Bel Amour d’Été does finally swap out Songes’ creamy sandalwood for a lactonic (but also strangely dry) vanilla, there is always the overriding impression of a densely savory floral bread pudding soaked in second day lady sweat and wood.

As a Songes devotee, I am bowled over by this, but even I am sensible enough to know that there really is no justification in me owning more than a sample of something that, while not note-for-note derivative, is similar enough to an older model. Objectively-speaking, however, Un Bel Amour d’Été is more modern, richer, and honestly, probably better constructed than Songes, and it may be an option when my vintage bottle (with real sandalwood) runs out. I am impressed that there are perfumers like Marc-Antoine Corticchiato who are unafraid to play in waters so crowded by monsters like Fracas and Songes. It must be like trying to create a spicy floriental just after Coco and Opium came out.

THE ONLY SUMMER LOVE YOU NEED!
Might just be the perfect summer floral — your ultimate tropical fantasy in a bottle. Think creamy, heady tropical florals like ylang-ylang and champaca, but with an extra twist: magnolia, adding a whisper of elegant soapiness, and gardenia, drenching everything in its lush, creamy embrace. Just so ridiculously good!

The materials? High quality. The performance? Stellar — great projection and longevity. This is classic white and yellow florals done simply, but in the most intoxicating way possible. It smells like Hawaiian flower leis, expensive sunscreen, and rain-drenched gardenias.

And then there’s that musky ambrette base — warm, like sun-kissed skin, with a subtle hint of vanilla. Not overly sweet, not overly woody — just unapologetically floral from start to finish. Honestly, I could toss out every other tropical scent I own and keep only this one, and I’d still be blissfully happy.

Creamy tropical flowers with sweetness and woodiness
I don't understand why this fragrance has such a low rating (6.6/10 at this moment) because it's a really nice beach perfume. I can picture the warm, golden sand, the gleaming sun shining high in the clear, blue skies and the sun-kissed skin... It's very vacation vibes.

Ylang-ylang and champaca flowers are the strongest flowers pulling on my skin. Ylang-ylang with its functional aspect of sunscreen and sun tan lotion. Tropical, slightly fruity with an almost carnal quality. Champaca flowers, which are floral and sparkling, add a touch of freshness and airy quality to the fragrance. Magnolia is sweet and slightly powdery while gardenia is subdued, more like an undertone, lending its powdery sweetness to the perfume. Bourbon vanilla and indian sandalwood add heaviness to the perfume, like warmth exuding off sun-kissed skin. It adds sweetness and a bit of an exotic feeling. The overall vibe of this perfume is creamy tropical flowers with a hint of sweetness and woodiness.

I might have gone for a bottle if it wasn't for the fact that I already have a fragrance in my collection that is quite similar: "Lust For Sun | Juliette Has A Gun". Nonetheless, it's a nice fragrance if you're looking for that summer, beach and vacation vibe.

Creamy Tropical Floral Dream
I don't think I could ever pull this off but when my girlfriend and I sampled it together the sillage of the initial spray made both of us say "wow". This is absolutely stunning. At this point I dare to guess how many fragrances I've sampled, but I know for a fact there have only been 10 or 11 "wows" exclaimed on the first sniff.

Summer time beauty
Such a beautiful fragrance, up close I get spices, like a cumin type note, but from a distance I get this beautiful, smooth creamy white floral that to me has a sun cream-esque presence to it. Admittedly this is more feminine leaning compared to what I'd typically wear but it smelled so good I had to get a bottle. Beautiful fragrance

So thick and creamy that it is more a reminder of summer, than an actual summer wear. Still this is decent case of sunny nostalgia

Creamy, sunny, cheerful, bubblegum white / yellow floral. Sandalwood becomes more apparent in the drydown.

Buttery, summery with enough slight funkiness to balance. Natural and thick with tropical flora, but not overly sweet or heavy. Perfection.

Warm, elegant beach fragrance. A lovely bouquet of florals associated with creamy bourbon vanilla and thick, heady indian sandalwood.

If Terracotta by Guerlain and Fils de joie by Serge Lutens had a child. Stunning.

good floral powdery opening, perhaps unisex feminine, but very pleasant to smell

It's so intensely floral that it takes on fruity aspects. A heavenly scent of a happy summer. Aptly named.
