A recipe change for Valaya
When PDM announced an exclusif version of Valaya was being released, I was super excited mainly because I wasn’t crazy about the harshness of the OG. While I do like citruses, I think the composition of Valaya lacks balance and rhythm. However, I think switching out some of the notes in the OG definitely upgraded the scent profile and wear in this new Valaya Exclusif.

To start, that pesky peach note is thankfully gone. I’m sorry to anyone that liked it, but it added an unnecessary cloying-ness to an already flamboyant scent. Instead, a smooth almond is substituted and gives VE a softer, smoother opening. Paired with the powdery notes in the heart, VE is notably more powdery than the OG, which may or may not work for you depending on your preference. As someone not fond of powdery scents, I quite enjoy the powder here cause it helps to soften the sharp citrus and dry woods in the base. It still has that “clean” feel without being as soapy as the original. VE is also much more wearable than the OG, without losing its strength. It’s sweet, pretty, and feminine, just like the OG, but has a little more of a mature vibe.

Lastly, I will say that I agree with the commenter that said this one and the OG aren’t synonymous to Delina and it’s Exclusif. If you have the OG, you can probably skip this because the scent profiles are very similar (unlike the Delina’s!). But if you’re like me and couldn’t stand certain aspects of the original, definitely give this one a sample. It’s new in my collection and I’m excited to test her out more when the weather gets warmer.

Prefer OG
Tested with 2ml and there’s something odd about the nutty almond sweetness and added powdery notes mixed with the sharp Valaya DNA (still very present - the dry down smelled almost exactly the same as the OG with that peppery yet still feminine vibe). The original just makes more cohesive sense to my nose. This is definitely not as different as Delina is to Delina Exclusif…if you already have one Valaya, do not think you need the other unless this is your signature scent.

Exclusif over the OG
I've always liked the idea of the original Valaya more than the scent itself. I never got that ethereal angelic vibe people talked about; it always came off as screechy and chlorine-like on my skin, which I was so disappointed by, but I am so pleasantly surprised by the exclusif version. It removes that aldehydic peach scent I was bothered by, but introduces these soft and powdery almond notes that balance the fresh citrus and florals. My favorite from the house so far because their other scents are too sweet and feminine for my liking(mainly Oriana, Delina, Cassili). Might grab the 30ml of this, but need to test it out more.

I like it!
This perfume grows on me enough to like it.

At first, I am ambivalent. The top notes hit, and I don't mind them, but I don't really like them. More than anything, I get a sense of smelling of good soap in a clean bathroom that has decent potpourri. It's pleasant, but I don't necessarily want to be wearing it. It gets a little creamier over a few minutes, with bursts of the orange and bergamot peeking through. Orange blossom can be sharp and tart, and here it's really hitting you hard and standing out over other notes. When that dies down, the sandalwood starts to shine and makes this a much more enjoyable perfume to wear for me. The powdery creaminess is pretty, and the wafts of fragrance I get as I move about is really nice.

I would need to ensure I've applied this perfume well before leaving the house, and I'm happy to keep a small amount of VE in my collection for just the right time.

Ananya for grown ups
In a nod to Valaya OG, this opens with a burst of Peach Schnapps on ice with white lemonade, but you only get time for a few sips. It settles quickly into a sweet floral, freshened with the mandarin and a hint of creamy almond. And then… oh…. Is that?? Is that ANANYA!! What the?? … ok… Hello,,, YOU!

Yes, stalker vibes here because I’ve been on the hunt for a perfume that smells like Ananya Perfume Oil from The Body Shop for 20 years. This was a beast of a sweet, fruity, fresh yet creamy, floral scent that could’ve knocked out a horse from 20 miles. My mother hated it because it gave her a headache, damn, it even gave me a headache. But that didn’t stop teenage me from dousing myself in it, whilst triple layering my Rimmel coffee shimmer lipstick. But it was so different and it was SO beautiful and I shan’t be told different! Despite a description of notes and aromas that never seemed to match up on the ongoing hunt, this holy grail of the 90s has remained ever elusive. And here I am! I found you! Excited much? Oh yes!

So now I can’t properly review Valaya Exclusif. My scent memory has kicked my nostrils right in the emotional feels. My nose enjoys ambroxan but it’s a struggle to describe the dry down because my brain is fixated on Ananya. There’s creamy vanilla, yet fresh slight woodiness from the Akigalawood yet it’s sweet and clean. This doesn’t have the powering strength of Ananya, it’s delicate in comparison and defo more sophisticated with a powdery, milky cashmere edge to it… maybe it’s an Ananya for grown ups?

Very (!) different vs. the EDP. Creamy-floral-sweet, spicy-powdery. Almond, vanilla, musk, sandalwood. Thinking of Initio's High Frequency.

The subtle nutty notes really elevate this perfume from the original version. It creates depth and intrigue, not overpowering sweet.

Wearable with patience. Never smells bad but doesn't smell balanced until dry-down, becoming a gently fresh, softly-sweet and creamy scent.

The only nice thing about this house is the design of the bottles. Yet another instant scrubber for me. Very dry and metallic

Not different enough from the original to own both. And the almond sweetness and powder notes are at odds with the sharp Valaya DNA.
