Thanks to Beauty-Concept!
In my last Beauty-Concept order (the most generous, customer-friendly online retailer), I was generously provided with samples of the Jeroboam fragrances..thank you once again for your wonderful approach, Ms. Schmidt. The brand was previously unknown to me, so I am even more delighted by these little gem brands, in the ideally sized 30ml bottles, which are also beautiful and of high quality to look at/touch.
Among the 3 fragrances I have tested so far, there were immediately 2 highlights, Vespero and Ambra.
I had expected Vespero to be classic and somewhat conservative, as the previous statements sounded more like an old-school scent for the over-50 clientele. However, Vespero has turned out to be a delightful and modern fragrance. The first minutes envelop you in a citrus-apple bouquet, fresh-fruity without any Bottled-Apple reminiscence. Combined with an unknown note, Vespero reminds me of the opening of Insoumis by Lalique, where it was rum; with Vespero, I search in vain for the responsible note. Perhaps it is the aromatic leather that smells like a convertible and roadster; this leather often has a sweet-spicy scent. Or it could be the special cedarwood note that smells like freshly sawn wood. Or maybe it is the blend of all the notes; regardless, the result is wonderful!
Everything is represented: spicy, fresh-fruity, woody, masculine, and yet youthful and carefree.
Vespero has a mini touch of Fahrenheit (violet) and Himalaya (cedarwood), and yet it smells completely different. Over time, the fragrance becomes woodier and somehow drier, which could be the phase that some would describe as "classic," not unlike Merchant of Venice Pour Homme; a look at its pyramid explains a lot. Therefore, it is probably no coincidence that I enjoy Fahrenheit, Himalaya, Insoumis, and Merchant of Venice so much.
What I also really like about Vespero is that it remains lightly fresh throughout the entire wear time (a complete workday), despite the slightly present sweetness. This surprises me greatly, as "sweet" does not appear at all in the pie chart!?
Good-mood conclusion: Great men's fragrance (70:30) from what seems to be a really great brand, with very good longevity and office-appropriate sillage. A colleague mentioned in the late afternoon, I can smell you all day, but I haven't seen you yet;-)!
Even though it says Extrait, it is always perfectly wearable, as here Extrait stands for dense and intense, not for loudness. I also find €90 for 30ml absolutely reasonable. Worth every euro for me!

One test is not enough
Vespero caught my attention positively weeks ago during the first test; it even reminded me of the much-appreciated Royal Vintage. In hindsight, it's interesting because both perfumes don't have much in common in terms of ingredients. At that time, however, I had extensive testing material, and I set Vespero aside for later, as I have gotten into the habit of testing scents that look like potential purchases only later. Deferred purchases, that's basically how my liquidity management looks. But that's another story.
So here I was, and I had to realize that this fruit combination olfactorily turns into saffron for me. Saffron can be good, but it is often used, and so the top note simply couldn't grab me. Especially in relation to leather, it's the usual fare. However the apple and grapefruit can go in that direction, one gets the feeling that the fruits must have been overripe. Cypress, or rather the memory of it, doesn't really come to me anymore either. Yes, due to the leather and bergamot, Vespero sometimes reminds me of Royal Vintage. But not in an intensity that one could really speak of a similarity. Rather, the rich saffron-like spectacle combined with the leather irritates me and reminds me of certain leaning clones of the master of the saffron-raspberry-leather triumvirate.
Gently, this reminiscence fades and becomes fruitier. However, like fruits that have already surpassed their peak usefulness. Now this has an immediate influence on the leather in the heart note, which is essentially defined by the quality and craftsmanship of the well-known genre representatives. At no time does it come across as dark or bitter. It remains consistently refined; at first, it absorbs the sweetness of the fruits and also smells of it afterward. At some point, these were practically wrung out, the leather becomes more neutral but still retains that undertone that indeed reminds one of cypress due to its limonene-like radiance. That is the best part, if you ask me.
Relatively quickly, this leather becomes sweet while maintaining that saffron-like touch, and Vespero takes this direction. It smells good in itself, but is still somehow familiar, reminding one of much and nothing at the same time. Patchouli certainly contributes to this sweet, earthy note that gradually emerges, but that was it for me and my perception; a further development does not reveal itself to me.
What can one say about it? For me, this is evidence that during the first test, one often realizes what one is less likely to purchase (I enjoy testing scents, but with the background of a potential purchase), but unfortunately also tends to overrate, at least that's how it is for me. Countless scents I had recently already "acquired" in my mind, from Canary & Cobra to Palais Nizam to Vespero. None of them managed to do so, including Vespero. Personally, it is too much of the familiar that is produced differently but ultimately fails to provide me with an olfactory "aha" experience. Fundamentally a formidable scent, no question. But not the right one for my "palate."

Old Reimagined
I stumbled upon the brand Jeroboam quite by chance when I received an extra sample of Oriento. Vespero (= "Evening" in Esperanto) immediately appealed to me with its fragrance notes. The design of the bottle - with 30 ml the perfect size, in my opinion - and the website are also impressive. However, the first impression was somewhat sobering, as Vespero, despite its naturally sounding notes, does not come across as fresh and pleasant as I had hoped.

Right after spraying, apple and citrus notes are clearly noticeable, but soon the darker side of the extrait reveals itself - as the name suggests. For me, leather is particularly dominant throughout. In combination with the top notes of musk, wood, and patchouli, it creates a similar effect to Micallef's Royal Vintage, with the significant difference that the latter is fresher, more modern, and more wearable. Vespero, on the other hand, could easily be from the 70s/80s, as alongside the scent of old (but not animalic) leather, it is primarily the dry, woody-mossy base and slightly soapy nuances that make it feel like a classic men's fragrance from bygone times. Floral notes are really only to be guessed at. It is striking, bitter, and distinctly masculine, so I would recommend a test to friends of this genre. (The first statements from CubaMike, Yatagan, and Ergopoxy emphasize this again.) There is nothing to complain about in terms of quality: with moderate projection, Vespero lasts an entire workday.

However, the overall composition does not feel entirely balanced to me, as the leather overshadows other notes too much, and I simply did not have a pleasant feeling while wearing it. I see Vespero more suited to an older wearer than myself. Nevertheless, it fits well in any season and is absolutely office-appropriate despite its rough edges.

Underrated but you need the older batches....
The Vespero captivated me immediately from the original manufacturer sample...

As a hybrid, it fulfills a niche role, yet the fruity notes keep it fresh enough for cool summer evenings; still, it has that dark "dirty" and bad boy charm thanks to leather, rose, and patchouli, combined with raspberry, which hints at similarities with Tuscan Leather or even Ombre Nomade. And yes, it is almost as "evil" and distinctive as Ombre Nomade, but this is more suited for spring and summer, giving the Vespero its unique selling point FOR ME... however, due to its power, it is not one for everyday wear but clearly designed for parties and wild nights.

In my opinion, it does not have much similarity to Aventus; rather, the "dirtier" Club de Nuit Intense Man EDT comes closer, but with raspberry & apple instead of pineapple, leather instead of smoke, and overall much higher quality.

Speaking of high quality, the OLD batches definitely smell niche quality; unfortunately, I recently received a sample that somehow smelled significantly more chemical than the original manufacturer sample... which leaves me puzzled.

The Vespero is definitely a hidden gem, as it combines the DNA of several successful fragrances into one, and the scent (if you get the right batch!) is a real powerhouse for your summer nights - all with an almost obscene projection and longevity.

Aventus yes and no!
The Jeroboam Vespero starts with a quite decent citrus note and then quickly becomes masculine, dark, herbaceous fresh, slightly green, and finely woody. The drydown is very smooth and warm. Anyone who likes Royal Vintage or the early smoky Aventus should definitely give this a sniff. I also don’t find the Vespero to be old school! A good gentleman daily = office etc. a constant goer! H/S also good.

I know that there are some pointed similarities between this and Aventus but I find Vespero to be so much smoother and complex. Gorgeous!!

Wonderful smell from the beginning, a soft leather... but the drydown is magical with a great smoky/musky. Good sillage.

The "darker" Aventus! Opens up fruity and fresh, but within a couple of hours becomes smoky and musky. All season, versatile fragrance.

Es un aroma riquisimo, tiene un aire a aventus en la salida, pero luego va por otro lado. Realmente espectacular. La recomiendo.

Fruity notes in a masculine setting; Typically unsweet, vaguely leatherish and high on acidity. Menthol-fresh to the point of feeling harsh

To me, this has its own personality. Starts zesty green, dries to a sexy, smoky, semi-sweet leather with a hint of red fruit & apple. Love!

A fruity and very fresh opening. Rather harsh leather drydown on my skin. Overall very enjoyable - especially the first couple of hours
