Smelling it for the first time is great...
Yesterday I was at the drugstore and wanted to get some new deodorant. After recently becoming aware of Narciso (Eau de Parfum Ambrée), I actually wanted to test this fragrance. However, I hadn't encountered it yet. But I had also heard about this Spirit of Black Magnolia, which is said to be a dupe for it, and since I am generally drawn to anything with Ambrée or similar hints, I thought I might as well give it a try...
I grabbed a test strip from the container, sprayed the tester on it, and there it was, a WOW effect. A floral-fresh scent, although I'm not quite sure why it’s called Black Magnolia. Frangipani, Ylang-Ylang, and a floral undertone immediately rush in at the beginning. This is then accompanied by musk and woody notes that make the fragrance feel soft. And then it just fills everything around me. It is very present, very intense. I like intense fragrances, so it was allowed to come along.
Back in the office, I of course took the opportunity to apply it right away. And just a few minutes later, I regretted it. It smelled better on the way here than it does now in this small room. After 10 minutes, it becomes a horror. I can only smell floral sweetness. It’s simply everywhere. It has trapped me. And I desperately try to gasp for air, but I’m choking in a sea of flowers. What have I done? Well, let’s just wait a little longer. It doesn’t cost anything, it surely won’t last long, and maybe it will become more pleasant... Not a chance. The scent is impossible to get rid of. And indeed, it reminds me of other fragrances by Narciso Rodriguez. Not in scent, but in its essence. No more perfumes with floral top notes for me. I simply cannot tolerate it.
The fragrance itself is really very present for a long time - at least for me. And unfortunately, I don’t like it at all. I must say, though, that it’s not badly made. It doesn’t smell like a cheap drugstore scent. It’s actually quite potent and lasts a long time. Those who enjoy floral fragrances and are looking for intense scents should definitely give this one a sniff.
Conclusion: Not for me, but I know that floral fragrances and I are not friends. I just ignored it again and am to blame for being dissatisfied now. Whether it is comparable to Narciso, I still cannot answer. But it is certainly just as much of a scent bomb as the fragrances I know from the line. Only this one simply comes off as too floral.
