Rockin' Roses
Ok now where do I begin? I am not characteristically known as a rose lover but the quality ingredients used in this product just might convert me. I just wished I had an experienced nose to detect what I really smell but here goes...

There is powder, balmy woods, and a soft orange in the background. I do not detect any sharp citrus, just a deep, rich thick syrupy orange. Why does this rosé smell so incensed? The cinnamon listed is very light, just enough for a spark, not a fire, just a glint of oomph to make it interesting.

This warm intoxicating powder is luxurious. I can't ignore this scent, it's just incredibly magnetic. If I really had the words to describe this fragrance I would say to all you rose lovers, this one is going to "Rock Your World!"

Wow! This is a beauty.

Heavenly Roses, from the past.
What a wonderful surprise this turned out to be! These are roses. Dark, heavily scented roses, from another era. Not the fragile dewy English Garden type rose, but more of a robust and sturdy type rose, that grew in gardens in far away places. Roses that have definite personality. Now, imagine a bunch of these gorgeous roses combined in a lovely bouquet with the highly scented mini carnation...a carnation that is scented like cinnamon), combined with some beautiful vanilla scented orchids. The greenery for this lovely bouquet would be clementine orange leaves, with a few bayleafs for added decoration. This is a flower bouquet made with love. Just like this superb fragrance, from the Tauer line. I was hesitant at first, to test this, as I wasn't really impressed with his other rose fragrance (Une Rose Vermeille). Which to my nose was more of a rosewater sweet fruity fragrance. But this is a different breed of rose! The dry down is simply wonderful...soft, yet distinct. It's almost like a lovely tune, playing in the background. The lasting power is great, and it has a very nice sillage..not overpowering, but again, very distinct and attractive. This is a real winner for me, and hope to be able to get a FB very soon! Thank you Mr. Tauer, for a glimpse into the past!

From Deep Appreciation to Deep Infatuation
Did you ever have a complete change of heart with any of your perfumes? If so, which one is it?

For me, it was Tauer's Une Rose Chypree. Of course, I have a few others. But with none had I experienced such a dramatic turnaround, from deep appreciation to deep infatuation, to even go as far as seeking out several backup bottles.

I now feel that I have a better understanding of the fragrance and have reached the final stage in coming to appreciate it. It is a highly complex work that requires time to fully acknowledge.
As the name implies, this is overall a "Rose-Chypre," however, to make the description more thorough, I'd also add "Spicy" and "Oriental" to its name. It is a unique creation. As much as I try to draw a comparison, there is nothing that comes to mind. It has become my favorite Rose perfume, although I'm someone who is not keen on rose. It can be placed in the family of Oriental-Chypres next to perfumes like Chypre Palatin, because of how the Oriental and Chypre-like parts blend. It also features strong spicy facets from a heavy note of bay leaf/laurel that is sublime and goes perfectly with the rose accord envisioned, and cinnamon. The perfume has three distinct stages that blend into one another seamlessly:

First, you get a blast of bay leaf and cinnamon, with a sparkling and juicy clementine, followed immediately by one of the main players in the composition, the rose. The latter is constructed in a way I have not experienced before. If you can picture a red, velvety rose sitting lonely in a garden during a gloomy and rainy Autumn afternoon, that is what it smells like. You can sense the droplets dripping down the petals and smell the flower in its entirety, from the stems to the floral corolla, and the earth from which it rose. You can feel the dampness of the soil. It's a wet, green, and spicy rose. It is aloof but well aware of its beauty. A touch of geranium helps to emphasize its verdant qualities. The bay leaf complements the sweet, spicy, and green nuances while adding its piquant aroma. It is a prominent facet in this perfume, mind, for those who are not fond of this aromatic.

The heart of the perfume is where the chypre-like facets emerge: lots of oakmoss, vetiver, some patchouli, and plenty of natural Ambergris. At first, I was quite impressed with how much the ambergris pushed out of my skin, giving away a beautifully salty and slightly mineralic nuance.

Finally, the resins in the base help to warm up the composition, which can come across as a bit cold and austere till this point. I mostly detect the cistus labdanum, perhaps bits of vanilla and styrax, which create a dusty, resinous, and slightly smoky amber accord that envelops the remainder of the perfume like a warm cocoon. When I first discovered Une Rose Chypree, I felt it was too sweet at this stage for my taste, but now I don't mind that anymore. On the contrary, I now find the sparkling ambergris and the oakmoss to overshadow the resins in the base, which only push out enough to smooth out the edges and throw a smoky-dusty veil over the frame of the fragrance.

I would claim with no hesitation that this is Andy Tauer's best creation to date. Quality, complexity, and originality-wise, it is unmatched, and I could see several reasons why it is no longer part of his line. I also don't find it to share much in common with his other fragrances. It truly occupies a place of its own, not just in the Tauer catalog, but as a Rose, a Chypre, and an Oriental perfume, as there is nothing quite like it.

As much as I shy away from rose-heavy compositions, I have to admit that I find it difficult to resist this aloof, green, wet, earthy, and laurel-imbued rose.

Cinnamon buns with lemon drizzle
Well according to Andy not technically a chypre and yet... it is... I first get cinnamon and lemon. It reminds me of Danish cinnamon buns drizzled with lemony icing. Bayleaf is there in the background to balance it, make it less gourmand and more elegant. Opening is strong and long and depending on how my skin feels I get either more lemon or more cinnamon. Then it settles to a skin scent and you get small whiffs through the day only as you move. Rose in the heart for me is subtle, blended with other ingredients. If I do not really concentrates on it, it skips me. Later oakmoss and labdanum kick in. There is meant to be patchouli, but either a little or well blended, I am not detecting it. I love the oakmoss that mixes with the cinnamon and labdanum. That is when you take the cinnamon rolls you got in a bakery earlier for a forest walk.
Olfactory story that I get is:
"In the mornings I go to local bakery for my daily cinnamon buns drizzled with lemon icing. The whole bakery smells of freshly baked goods, today they used a lot of lemon. I spend some time there, chatting to the owner. Then I go home passed a florist. Door is open and and I get a whiff of roses. I pack up some herbal tea and the buns and go for a walk to the forest. It is beautifully mossy and damp but not wet."

Fresh, green, spicy rose
An extremely green, spicy rose with a piquant opening. Uber fresh and natural smelling, this rose is juicy with life and purpose. There’s some soft powder as it dries down, but it’s the dry, verdant oak moss that takes center stage. While not something I’d personally wear often, it’s a very intriguing and confident scent that would wow on the right person. Maybe my wife should try it...

Stunning. Smells like the olfactory equivalent of a hand-cut crystal vase filled with the most beautiful arrangement of roses.
