Vanilla for us non vanilla fans
I'm not into vanilla but I was curious what Andy Tauer could do with it and I was not disappointed! This is dry spiced, resinous tobacco vanilla. Just a hint of ambery sweetness. Unique in the endless pool of vanillas. Side note - I've seen people call this redundant to Phi Une Rose De Kandahar and I have to say, are your noses broken? I'm wearing one on either wrist and they are incredibly different. They do share that Tauer tobacco vanilla base, but they are taken in totally different directions.

The quiet magic of real vanilla
The essence of vanilla is exactly what the title of the new fragrance from Tauer Perfumes promises: Vanilla Absolue. Although "new" is only partly true, it is rather a homage to Vanilla Flash by Tauerville, a now discontinued brand by perfumer Andy Tauer. I will therefore also discuss here whether Vanilla Absolue can keep up with the masterpiece Vanilla Falsh, even trumps it or has nothing in common at all.

The fragrance starts directly with an oriental cloud of spices, from which cinnamon, clove and cardamom clearly stand out for me. After a few seconds, a rosy note becomes noticeable, giving the opening a floral softness and maturity. Personally, I hardly notice the dried fruits mentioned in the top note, or only with a lot of imagination.
Shortly after the "spice jungle" becomes quieter, the eponymous vanilla comes to the fore. But don't worry, it is neither cloying nor artificial, a trap that vanilla fragrances unfortunately often fall into. We all know at least one fragrance where this is the case ;). In Vanilla Absolue, the vanilla note is based on a natural CO₂ extract from real vanilla pods, which is probably also the reason why it smells so authentic, sophisticated and unsweet here. As the fragrance progresses, a gentle tobacco note joins in, deepening the composition once again. The spices and rose remain, but recede into the background, while the base becomes woodier and more balsamic. Very cozy, very elegant.

But I don't want to keep you in suspense any longer. Let's now compare Vanilla Absolue and Vanilla Flash.
I wore both fragrances at the same time - one on the left, the other on the right. The difference? You can hardly smell it! If you sniff closely, Vanilla Absolue may seem a little more resinous and balsamic in the base, which gives it more depth, but these are nuances at most. Vanilla Absolue lasted about 10 hours on me, while Vanilla Flash left after about 8.5 hours. Again, I don't notice any differences in the sillage, so they are clearly noticeable without being annoying.

The fragrance should appeal to all those who miss Vanilla Flash and are finally looking for a worthy replacement, as well as those who want to experience vanilla in an unsweet, authentic version. And, of course, all fans of the typical Tauer DNA, because Andy Tauer's signature is unmistakable here and runs through the entire fragrance.
For me, Vanilla Absolue is an absolute winter and fall fragrance and is cozy, warm, enveloping but certainly never boring. Unisex? Definitely. Age limit? None.

This fragrance will definitely accompany me on many cold days this year and maybe soon you too?

Ambre Nuit collided with Tobacco Vanille and you get this nice concoction of amber/rose and vanilla/tobacco. Vanilla is the connector.

Lovely warm inviting vanilla which never becomes too sweet or cloying. Multifaceted and yet it’s definitely mainly vanilla, but never plain

Stunning from opening to dry down to six hours later. There is not a harsh or unbalanced note across this fragrance and it is rich and intoxicating.

Dense, beautiful raw vanilla with spice and fruit. Perfect colder months scent. Reminds me of a sexier/cozier/deeper/less stuffy YSL Cinema

Fruity floral vanilla with fresh notes. Unique on the skin, but flat and almost artificial on test strips.

Not my vanilla, the rose is too dominant for me. Reminds me of 90's vanilla scents.
