You’re much more than just “similar to Oud Wood”
Like most people, I got to know Carved oud because of Oud wood; its magnificent smell, and terrible longevity. Like many of these most people, I was delighted, but in an unexpected way.
While often described as the “longer lasting” Oud Wood, I wouldn’t consider their difference in longevity as ground breaking. Yes, Carved Oud lasts longer, but still feels a bit shorter to my tastes. It lasts the normal ~4 hours on me, and would want it to be ~6 hours.
However, what really makes me a Carved Oud fan is the scent (isn’t it why we are here). Yes, there is a clear similarity with Oud Wood, especially at the opening. But their dry-downs are very different. For Oud Wood, there is a slight offness that I don’t like. However, it’s completely absent from Carved Oud. Particularly, in the dry-down, Carved Oud has this sweat and vanilla residual smell coming out and saying Hello from time to time. The entire experience felt smoother and more integral. It’s one of my top scents for sure.
Having sang all the praise, I choose not to own a bottle. Why? The PRICE!!! In Germany, a 50ml bottle costs 190 euros. It’s more expensive than many other top niche fragrances, and it doesn’t offer the same level of longevity (Yes, it’s longevity again). I do consider it a much better buy than Oud Wood (the bar is low), and would strongly recommend anyone like Oud Wood to give it a try.
