Strange fruit hanging…
I got this among a ten scents’ buy. When I got around to trying it I was puzzled. Intrigued. And a bit shocked. Amazed as well, because I kept thinking: who on earth would come up with such a scent?! No offense, but this is not a crowd pleaser in any way. Strange - yes. Harsh - yes. Attitude - yes. But definitely not for everyone.
I like gin and I like roses, but not in this cocktail. On my skin it becomes a truly sour smell that grabs all the attention. I am sure that this was not Margot Elena’s intention. It is just the way it reacts on my skin. I get none of the four notes mentioned - just this sourness that makes me wish I had not sprayed it. Sillage and longevity is luckily poor.
I envy the people who actually like or maybe even love this scent. Personally, I was happy to give it away.

A Rather Fickle Rosesque Scent
Tokyomilk GIN & ROSEWATER goes on as a very refreshing and bright citrus fragrance with rose underneath peeking out as the citrus subsides. In tiny undulating waves this creation sometimes wafts a bit sourly, which may not play out well on some wearers' skin. That's my best guess for why it has been rated so poorly by some people. I actually like it, but it definitely has an unpredictable quality which makes me wonder, whenever I'm thinking about spritzing some on, whether it will smell good on me on that occasion or not. Eventually, the drydown becomes quite nice, but the journey to the drydown is not guaranteed to be a smooth one.

More and more, I am gravitating toward fragrances which are consistently and dependably good and do not require the luck of the draw to end up smelling pleasant. I'd say that this somewhat sour rose is mingling not only with the citrus but also with the rosewood to produce a rather odd effect--both pleasing and somehow disconcerting. To some it may be welcome, and it is similar in a vague way to Hermessence ROSE IKEBANA. But wearing GIN & ROSEWATER is always something of a gamble, which perfumistas may or may not be prepared to take.

Of course, one nice thing about this line is that the perfumes are fairly inexpensive, and they come in small (1oz) bottles, so it is actually possible to try them out and use them without spending too much money.

Rose? Mandarin?
and where is the gin? Why is the perfume even called Gin & Rosewater when there is no gin in it at all? (Just like there are no cherries in the Cherry Bomb)
I specifically went to a store that actually carries Tokyo Milk because I really wanted to smell it. Curious, I spray it on and at first I smell nothing.
Well, hardly anything. It smells fresh, quite pleasant, blends into my skin, and shortly after it’s already gone.
What a shame. I think the bottle is so beautiful.

Artificial Mimosa Scent
When testing on the paper strip, it smelled very interesting, somehow refreshingly cool with a light rosewater note. I also think I can detect a slightly sweet, syrupy gin note and a zesty citrus note.
Unfortunately, the scent develops quite differently on my skin.
It becomes sharp and takes on an artificial undertone. Now I recognize a mimosa note that I don't particularly like; it makes the entire perfume musty.

No, this is really not for me; I had to wash it off before it gave me a headache.

The longevity is surprisingly good.

I literally went through 3 bottles of this before upgrading to a higher tiered fragrance. It's the perfect gin and tonic boozy cheapie.
