That’s such nonsense…
This is my first introduction to TokyoMilk and Margot Elena as a whole, I was really intrigued with all the fragrances so I wound up purchasing the discovery set. Each scent smells amazing in the bottle but this is the first one I’ve actually worn thus far and it smells good, like objectively it’s a sweet gourmand. Once it dries down it loses a lot of that stereotypical ‘cake-y’ quality and becomes more of a clean & sweet scent but I still really enjoy it. Unfortunately all the scents in the discovery kit are dabbers so the projection is pretty difficult to gauge hence why this may not be the most accurate review. The design and concept overall is really gorgeous (at least to an amateur fragrance lover like myself) and I’m really looking forward to testing out the other perfumes in the collection. I’m wearing this with the Bath & Body Works x Milk Bar Birthday Cake mist & Soap&Glory Vanillalicious body butter because… I want to smell like cake (duh) and I think this definitely helps get the job done.

Some One Left the Cake Out In the Rain
Let them Eat Cake is a fantastic name and a thrilling concept in gourmand scents. However, it falls short of my expectations of being an enticing edible fragrance. Looking at the core notes which are gratefully printed on the bottle, I was mentally preparing to want to eat my own arm off after applying. Seemed to me, this would be a fabulous, uplifting & cozy scent for winter going along with holiday cookies, hot cocoa and visions of sugar plum nymphs dancing in snowy forest scenes. Instead, my initial inhalation produced a scratchy olfactory sensation of a very low quality vanilla musk which gradually sweetened as it warmed on my skin to a powdery, cottony cloud. The net effect after 30 minutes was the impression of warm spun cotton candy drenched in Coty Vanilla musk and extra firm hold hairspray and left outside in a drizzling gray rain storm to produce a soggy stale note in the final dry down. Although the sillage was decent (about 3-inches/7.62 cm radius) for about 4 hours I found this scratchy, cloying and pretentious- like a "birthday cake" scented candle from the dollar store. In this genre, I suggest Demeter's "Birthday Cake" or "Cake Batter" as a reasonable alternative for sweet puffery fluffery.

`sweet and sugary
let them eat cake opens with the coconut milk and vanilla. It makes the scent sweet and sugary. The dry down is light musky and coconutty. Do I like it.yes. Would I wear it? yes but probably in the warmer months

Cake with Coconut Flakes
Let Them Eat Cake. This phrase is allegedly attributed to Marie Antoinette, where "cake" actually refers to the pastry brioche, in relation to poor peasants who had no bread to eat. Of course, there are no records of whether she actually said it that way.

Hm… Brioche. Ah, I like brioche. Light, fluffy, delicious,… and now I'm getting sidetracked :D

So, back to the scent. A fragrance called "Let Them Eat Cake" sounds to me like a delicious and gourmand fragrance. Let's see how it is.

The Scent:
Coconut milk and vanilla. You can immediately smell these two notes, and it just smells wonderful. It smells exactly like a fluffy, light cake with coconut flakes on top. Does a brioche smell like that too? Hm… I can't remember; to me, it smells more like cake. In any case, I enjoy both… :D
But now back to the scent! A carnival-like scent also rises later on, which must be due to the sugar. Musk is rather minimal.
And basically, that's it, as there isn't much more to smell, and the fragrance doesn't develop further, mainly remaining vanilla with coconut and sugary notes (and later on, it only smells of vanilla).
But it does smell nice nonetheless.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is above average and will be more noticeable when smelled from close range. Unfortunately, it quickly loses strength, so that later on, it will only be perceived by oneself at most.
The longevity, on the other hand, is very good, allowing you to smell the fragrance from morning to night, meaning more than twelve or fourteen hours, which is great.

The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and has a chrome-plated, cylindrical cap. On the front, there is a brown label with the brand and fragrance name. The name also appears again on the cap. In other versions (or is it more the front and back??), you can also see a picture of a cake.
I don't find the bottle particularly beautiful, but it is quite compact.

This fragrance is not bad, but it's also not that special. It has been smelled countless times and thus smells good as usual, only that it doesn't stand out. But that's okay, as it smells quite nice, although compared to similar fragrances, it is a bit too weak in terms of sillage.

Thus, this fragrance belongs to the vanilla scents that one can enjoy more for oneself than to wear outside the house or when going out, but at least you can enjoy it for a long time due to its longer longevity. And when baking cakes, you probably won't even notice the scent if you're wearing it :D

On paper: realistic, fluffy yellow cake + hint of whipped coconut frosting + musky vanilla orchid. On skin: unfortunate metallic undertone.

Yes, we should all snack on more cake!
Cake with coconut milk & shavings
The vanilla is more pronounced in the finish than when chewing.

A trip back to the 2000s, Impulse Vanilla Deo Cloud. But a bit more grown-up.
Even after washing my hands, the scent stays on my skin.

Great idea (vanilla swirl cake with coconut cream topping) and basically tasty, but unfortunately poorly made, consistently synthetic casual scent.

Light gourmand scent, also floral & fresh, for everyday wear & a well-groomed feeling. I really like it, doesn’t last too long, more intimate.
