Amber & Blood Orange...
A really intriguing fragrance from the house of Tokyo Milk Parfumarie. This is my first time trying a fragrance from their line and I like it very much. This one has a great composition to it and the combination is an unusual one. I like the way the scent develops with a great balance between sweet and sour, with just the right amount of each.

One to be worn all day round, and probably all year round. It's a nice, unusual fragrance and I now want to try more from this house. Really good!

dry amber
Excess is a woody, amber/patchouli that smells gritty/pretty, like sweet sawdust. It is slightly raspy and, while resinous-sweet, feels luxuriously dry. It has the tendency toward flatness that I’ve noticed in others from this line (Arsenic, Crushed) but if you look close, it has a narrow range of depth and dimension, like the finest sandpaper. This is amber that doesn’t rise up and surround you. It is calm yet compelling up close and has restrained sillage. Hardly excessive, rather lovely.

Citrus + thin patchouli
"Excess"ively reformulated.

I had bottle nearly a decade ago, probably the first release, that was matte-finish and contained a much different fragrance.

Gone is the camphorous patchouli and bitter orange; here to stay: syrupy sweet citrus amber. Excess went from a patchouli-forward, to an amber-forward scent, a change that (IMO) was not for the better.

Glimpses into the Darkness
You look at me as if we have known each other forever.
Two strangers, that’s what we are right now.
Tell me, where were you when the rain poured down on me?
I would love for this night to smell only of you.

I look at you, slowly we walk towards the sunset.
It feels as if we have known each other for a long time.
Déjà vu - everything reminds me of a beautiful, past time.
Hands touching, a delicate cloak full of contact.
You and I. I and you. Both of us. And the darkness.

And when everyone leaves, we remain just for ourselves.
Just you and me - and the glimpses into the darkness.
Tell me that morning is still far away from us.
So that we have time for kisses that glide into the darkest point of the night.

I look at you, through this night that is slowly fading.
From this moment on, we are now two lovers, under the lights of this city.
Tell me, where were you when the rain poured down on me?
I would love for this night and this city from now on to always remind me of you.

Dark - Excess No. 28 is, on one hand, lightly tinted with a black refinement, on the other hand, romantic phases linger in this scent. It is eccentric all right. However, I can’t attribute excessive traits to it. For here, it is not Dionysus at work - the god of pleasure. Rather, Aphrodite would have had her little fingers in play when she ventured into the darkness.

Beautiful earthy notes - a bit moist - then slightly dry. Wonderful blood orange scent, adorned with light smoke. Furthermore, a plump patchouli that embraces the darkness and its lovers. The fragrance flows beautifully, moving gently forward. It lulls you - the witch drinks her cognac, numbed, she mixes everything together again. The earthy tones become richer and allow the patchouli to penetrate deep into the earth. Beautiful - shady, albeit sometimes a bit rotten phase - a light fog that hangs over all of this. Powerful, strong - suitable for men and women. Glimpses into the darkness - but with a brightened happy ending for two lovers. I don’t want to dissect it too much - for it doesn’t need that. Just let it take effect and give your imagination free rein. I like it - especially the bottle appeals to me. Longevity and sillage are definitely in the spotlight.

a dark, noble Gothic scent
A perfume from the Tokyo Milk Dark line. All fragrances in this series come in matte black bottles with their numbering on the side and a white symbolic image on the front. It reminds me of the symbols found in the TV series "Fringe." The perfume appears very mysterious, which drew me in magically; I had to test some of them.
This one, number 28, features an image of many tentacles writhing upwards from a round vessel, or is it an octopus standing on its head? I can't quite tell.
Now to the scent:
At first, the blood orange is quite fresh and zesty. Then it becomes darker and woodier; I can distinctly recognize a balsamic, resinous base. It increasingly smells of fresh, cool, damp forest, but not the green of the leaves is revealed here, rather the dark, mossy forest floor. Patchouli provides a warm, soft background note that gradually comes to the forefront, along with the also soft amber.
While I still perceive the fresh blood orange on the paper test strip for a long time, this note fades very quickly on my skin. On the skin, patchouli becomes more prominent; the scent appears darker, warmer, and softer.
The fragrance notes harmonize very well here, a balanced scent.
Unisex? Yes, definitely.
Really something for patchouli fans and lovers of "dark" scents.
For me, it is too patchouli-heavy.

Mossy green. Oak bark describes it quite well. But one that has already fallen from the trunk and is in the soft, damp earth ..
