The colorful orchid
I had the rare opportunity to test a version of Tom Ford's classic on each of the last three days, namely Black Orchid (2023) Eau de Toilette , Black Orchid Eau de Parfum and Black Orchid Parfum . I will try to explain which version might be the best for you in the following reviews.
Even if one could easily assume that only the fragrance oil concentration is different and that the fragrances do not otherwise differ from each other, both the list of ingredients and the real test show that each version stages the orchid differently.
in my opinion, Black Orchid (2023) Eau de Toilette is the most expressive and loudest fragrance of all the versions. In the opening, there is an enormous sweetness, which almost goes in a chewing gum direction but fades out relatively quickly and then merges into the fruity-floral middle part of the fragrance. Later on, the orchid fragrance becomes increasingly creamy until it fades away completely. I have the feeling that this version of the fragrance might appeal more to younger women because it is floral/fruity/sweet, almost playful in comparison to the darker EdP or gourmand perfume. But the fact is, and this is well known with Black Orchid, although it is a declared women's fragrance, men also like to use it. Specifically named in numbers: Of the 61 users on Parfumo, 52 percent are female and a whopping 48 percent are male. That's a huge proportion for a women's fragrance and underlines its unisex suitability, although I would describe this version as the most "feminine" of all.
The performance is also commendable for an EdT and lasts longer than four hours with four sprays. EdP and perfume perform a little better but hats off nonetheless.
The bottle is beautiful and has its own style, as it is part of the Signature range. Why they decided to keep the bottle entirely in black without any color accents is questionable for me, because the fragrance is the most colorful and playful of all versions and by no means so dark.
You can't complain about the price either, as I found 100 ml on the Internet for around 100 euros. Almost a bargain for a Tom Ford fragrance.
In fact, I would give my highest recommendation for the EdT version, because the fragrance is relatively inexpensive, enormously expressive in its individual phases and performs really well.
