Admittedly, I am more of an Alien fan (but not because I am so into The X-Files and would love to meet aliens, and also not because I have a crush on Agent Scully,… although… aaarrrrr :D) than an Angel fan. With the Aliens, I started to rave about how wonderful these sweet scents smell on you ladies and have since adopted some phrases like “delicious enough to bite into,” which might sometimes make you women roll your eyes when I write something like this,… but hey… that’s still better than saying: “the scent is really cool, perfect for a hookup…”, right? :DD
Well, the Angels don’t smell bad either; there are some really great fragrances from this line, such as Angel - Étoile des Rêves or Angel - Liqueur de Parfum Creation 2013, and some other flankers have turned out quite well too, but some, especially the original Angel like the EDP, smell quite intense and too specific; I would even almost say they are overwhelming. These scents have nothing to do with deliciousness and being biteable :D
Therefore, it’s always a horror when I see some ladies spraying themselves from head to toe with Angel fragrance in perfume departments, polluting the whole store, as the well-smelling Angel scents are rather rare to find in an ordinary store, so the shelves are filled more with the EDTs, or worse, the EPDs… which are even used in the hottest summer, argh!
And now the Extrait is coming too. I really hope I don’t choke right away. If I don’t publish a comment tomorrow, then you’ll know that the scent has killed me… :D
The scent:
Phew,… yes, this is Angel. The DNA of the fragrance is unmistakable, and the scent is really intensely powerful. You immediately smell the familiar, spicy honey that clings heavily and almost sticky to the skin, radiating with an intensity that makes the olfactory receptors in the nose nearly go numb. Not necessarily the best scent, but still not terrible… but….
Something is, however, different from the EDP or EDT. The scent has a caraway-like and herbal note, which I think is due to the coumarin, something I personally don’t like very much and would prefer to do without. Because honestly, this smells absolutely awful and becomes even more intense.
If you smell past the intense coumarin note, you can detect hints of sweet and powdery chocolate, but since the coumarin seems to overshadow everything, the scent is unfortunately less successful at the beginning and in the middle, and you actually don’t want to continue smelling it; you would rather wash your arm right away.
Fortunately, this improves a bit towards the end, as the coumarin slowly disappears or at least weakens in the base, and the scent begins to smell like the normal Angel. Then a light, almost vanilla-chocolate sweetness emerges, which smells good in itself, but the scent still remains special, just like the EDP, though it comes across as somewhat more pleasant. I actually find the later base quite beautiful, only… you really have to endure several hours until the scent reaches this nicer phase.
And if I remember correctly, it even has a certain similarity to A*Men/Angel Men in this late base (which, by the way, also starts off special but is not as stinky at the beginning as this scent here), probably due to the caramel or something.
The sillage and longevity:
Hmm… despite the intensely strong beginning, the projection is rather mediocre to good, compared to what one is used to from an Angel, as these scents usually project much more intensely and envelop everything in a gigantic scent cloud. It is pleasant to smell, but you shouldn’t expect a huge cloud. For an Angel scent, this one could almost be described as a bit discreet.
The longevity is also quite good, meaning the scent lasts easily for twelve hours.
The bottle:
There is truly nothing wrong with the bottle of these scents. Both the Aliens and the Angels come in fantastic bottles. This one is in a very beautifully designed star bottle, which also uses the famous Mugler star as a cap. Simply fantastic and definitely eye-catching. Top!
Okay, first of all: This Angel is not bad in itself. Especially in the later base, it doesn’t smell too terrible now. Actually, this scent would have been on par with the EDP of the regular Angel scent for me, which I rated with 6.0 points, and which, although not my thing, some people do like. Honestly, I would have rated this scent higher than the EDP/EDT… with the actually beautiful base here, there would normally have been at least 7 points,…
…if it weren’t for the caraway-like coumarin, which unfortunately drags the scent down extremely and gives it a really bad-smelling note, as long as you don’t like coumarin, caraway, and such. Although it gets better later, as mentioned, unfortunately, it takes quite a few hours, which is the reason why I rate this scent lower. Because it’s somehow not the point to suffer for hours until a scent finally starts to smell good, right?
Well, that’s what I think anyway. Oh, and like all Angel scents, this one belongs ONLY in autumn and winter!
So it’s a pity, really, but there are enough Angel scents that smell much better (and from the start), if you can’t get into the sweet Alien scents that make you so hookable… oops, I meant biteable :D
So, this one can be left aside despite the beautiful bottle!
