Apple Pie with a Kick
I have had French Sweets by UdV for some time now. If you believe the above statement, it is still in production, but I haven't seen it in drugstores for years. Which is actually a shame, as French Sweets was part of a fragrance line by UdV that was likely aimed at an adult audience.
The price was also correspondingly higher than the usual minis & the like. I believe it was 10 euros for 30 ml.
The "French sweets" are, in my opinion, a pure autumn/winter fragrance. In summer or warm weather, I imagine it to be rather unpleasant and inappropriate.
It is surprisingly (for UdV standards) a delicious gourmand scent. From the fragrance notes mentioned above, I can distinctly smell apple (caramelized), vanilla, and also a bit of wood.
Overall, the scent reminds me very much of freshly baked apple pie topped with caramelized apple pieces and with a good kick of alcohol (rum or cognac). I mean the alcohol in a positive way, as it does not smell like the type of alcohol often found at the beginning of the top notes in cheap perfumes, but rather, as mentioned, like a delicious splash that you add to the cake batter, leaving a lovely aroma after baking.
Delicious, sweet, warm, just a touch powdery (in my nose), a bit spicy and also slightly oriental, this is how I perceive French Sweets.
The wood remains subtly in the background but is noticeable and gives the fragrance a certain "adult" touch. So not "squeaky-delicious," but "adult-elegant-delicious" :).
A nice insider tip among the UdV fragrances and especially a recommendation for gourmand lovers.
The longevity is good for me; I can smell it all day. The sillage is quite strong; two sprays are more than enough to attract the attention of those around you.
While it could certainly be worn for going out, personally, I find it too gourmand for that. I imagine it to be more suitable for a winter walk or cuddling on the sofa. When I smell like caramelized apple pie, I don't want to have crowds of people around me :).
Edit: Now that I have a sample of Eau des Missions, I can say that both fragrances smell exactly the same on me; French Sweets is just a bit more liqueur-like on my skin, making it a touch richer and having a bit more wood.
