Perhaps the world's first caramel chypre
For those who are not Francophone, it should be noted that the name "Fatal/e" (the feminine form of the adjective is spelled with an e, the masculine without) suggests that we have a unisex fragrance before us, which is a good choice for both the femme fatale and the homme fatal.

"Fatal/e" is one of five current edition fragrances from the charming little perfume house "Urban Scent," all of which were launched on March 22, 2018, and are expected to be available for a limited time, priced at 270 euros for 100ml of EdP, unless the word component "feil" gets stuck in your throat. I elaborated on the details of the edition yesterday in my comment on "Eden Splash," so I will refer you there to avoid tedious repetition. The illustration accompanying the fragrance by graphic artist Francois Cadière depicts a wide-eyed young woman with bangs (hair, not horse) and a hint of flower power adornment, whose face is largely obscured by a floral something that appears to be a kind of double flower (or rather leaf) cup, in which two miniature figures (or is it one man and one woman?) are seated.

The perfume house describes "Fatal/e" in the vernissage catalog (in my translation from English): "Seductive, mysterious, enchanting - a reinterpretation of the typical floral-spicy chypre fragrances of the 80s, where 'too much' was a 'must.' The chypre base accord contains bergamot, rose, jasmine, vetiver, patchouli, and moss, while the spice accord is based on cinnamon, pink and black pepper, and nutmeg. A hint of coffee and caramel has been added for the sake of surprise."

This is already a poetic-olfactory foundation upon which to build. Unfortunately, I lack a bit of the feel for chypres; I don't always know exactly when to classify a fragrance in this family and when not to, but "Fatal/e" seems to me quite chypre-typical (nice assonance, right?). I perceive the fragrance as rather feminine in character, very gentle, fine, soft, although certainly painted in bolder colors. Contrary to what one might expect from the keywords "jasmine" and "rose," I perceive "Fatal(e)" more as (also) a green fragrance rather than a heavy floral bomb, and unlike the associations that the terms "nutmeg, black pepper, pink pepper, cinnamon" might evoke, there is no spice container ship chugging through here; no, everything is soft and gently rolling, though not flat and not weak on the chest.

I notice nothing of coffee, but more than a hint of caramel. And although I would have sent someone who told me that a gentle green-spicy chypre pairs well with a strong dose of caramel to the Cypriot copper mines until the day before yesterday, I must say today: It really pairs remarkably well.

A renewed bow to MLF, the master perfumer. I have not yet tried all the Urban Scents, but I dare to generalize already: She can do it. Namely, conjuring modern, exciting, surprising, and yet very wearable and beautiful, cheerful, relaxed fragrances. This one is - even if it may not suit me personally and even if 270 euros do not fit my salary class - certainly a complete success. So, double pack of Werther's Originals in the carry-on and off to the next flight to LCA.

The flowers dominate here, after a brief citrusy start. The spices stay in the background, coffee and caramel are absent. Quite nice.

At first, strong peppery spice mixes with nutmeg and the coffee adds to the intensity, then floral notes and a base sweetness emerge.

Floral with a lot of spice + green citrus, a bit of powder. Dry + sweet cinnamon. Coffee? Not for me. Chypre? Not really. But definitely good.

In the early 80s, Chypre was twice as popular as oxygen. Enchanting, a bit too much, with cinnamon and pepper, a hint of coffee caramel.

Soap. Vetiver. Rose. Jasmine. Grandma. Old: No thanks.

Somehow it's a Chypre and therefore a bit old-fashioned. Floral notes on a gourmand base.. Different, but not for me.

It's not floral-fresh, but dark-warm-peppery with fine vetiver, for me a "lying by the fireplace - winter scent" with great longevity.

Many delicious flowers. Beautiful, sweet-warm scent. Not recognizable as Chypre for me. Caramel note only slightly noticeable towards the end.
