Addictive Blend
If, like me, you have fallen head over heels for the Singular Oud from Urbans Scents right away, you can't help but test more fragrances from this small, emerging, very likable manufacturer.
Sensual Blend is, in a way, a, well, blender ^^ (forgive this somewhat clumsy wordplay). What do I think of when I read the name? Mmmh, a soft, fluffy, sensual, perhaps most feminine scent with a noticeable gourmand aspect. After all, vanilla is in there, it says so, right...? And amber. Golden cuddler, here I come!
However, we apparently also have the Singular Oud effect here: just like there, there is a little name confusion, because there is hardly any trace of Oud in the S.O., let alone singular. The sniffing experience is still absolutely flashy for me (or perhaps precisely because of that). It’s the same with Sensual Blend.
A dear user kindly left me a sample, as when I purchased the Singular Oud, I only grabbed Desert Rose and Gunpowder back then (why, actually?). So, with the above expectation, I wore Sensual Blend for the first time during the last lovely late summer days in Hamburg.
And I was pleasantly surprised by the completely different scent experience than expected. Nothing is fluffy here. From the very beginning, a powerful, but not overwhelming, *different* gourmand experience comes into play. Immediately, there is a certain alcohol note, slightly citrusy in the first seconds, then transitioning into a distinctly strong whisky-like scent. Not too syrupy, not too clear, rather amber-colored, golden, forming streaks on the glass wall. A bit of plum mixes in, slightly bitter-spicy in its typical sweetness.
As with the Singular Oud, I must say here: it all sounds like it would trigger a feeling of fullness, but not at all! A light leather note, not too creaky, but also not silky soft, adds further substance and a dash of clear masculinity. Yes, I stand by it: I find Sensual Blend unisex enough that I would gladly wear it as a female being, but I would much prefer to sniff this scent on a man. Much rather, in fact!
Whether this is due to the more masculine alcohol domain of whisky, or the leather, or the somehow permanently resinous impression that Sensual Blend carries, I cannot say. In fact, the lovely vanilla remains completely subordinate and is never distinctly perceptible on me. Rather, amber shows up, but that too is of a brittle, spicy kind, not the delicious Yummy-amber of, for example, L'Occitane Ambre.
Meanwhile, the scent development is comparatively discreet, or I could also say: almost linear. The bitter-sweet whisky note on medium-brown leather, a small plum, and spicy amber lies powerfully on the skin and captivates me. Even on warm summer evenings, Sensual Blend does not seem out of place, no matter how wintry or autumnal the pyramid may read. Especially since it is increasingly accompanied by a slight, yet almost guaiac wood-like dryness.
And despite all its strength, the scent does not overwhelm; it maintains composure, invites closeness without leaving a feeling of being overwhelmed.
Golden evening sun at the Elbe beach suits it just as well as dark, cool autumn mornings or cozy evenings in snug restaurants; it is suitable as a companion for long walks through city & nature and in quiet, sheltered, and emotional moments. The more I sniff it, the more enthusiastic I become. If you let go of the initial expectations mentioned, you will be rewarded with a special yet not pretentious scent that, like Singular Oud, has that certain something in its fine mix of wearability and eccentricity.
Longevity: leaves nothing to be desired. It stays. Oh, it really does.
