Addictive Blend
If, like me, you have fallen head over heels for the Singular Oud from Urbans Scents right away, you can't help but test more fragrances from this small, emerging, very likable manufacturer.

Sensual Blend is, in a way, a, well, blender ^^ (forgive this somewhat clumsy wordplay). What do I think of when I read the name? Mmmh, a soft, fluffy, sensual, perhaps most feminine scent with a noticeable gourmand aspect. After all, vanilla is in there, it says so, right...? And amber. Golden cuddler, here I come!

However, we apparently also have the Singular Oud effect here: just like there, there is a little name confusion, because there is hardly any trace of Oud in the S.O., let alone singular. The sniffing experience is still absolutely flashy for me (or perhaps precisely because of that). It’s the same with Sensual Blend.

A dear user kindly left me a sample, as when I purchased the Singular Oud, I only grabbed Desert Rose and Gunpowder back then (why, actually?). So, with the above expectation, I wore Sensual Blend for the first time during the last lovely late summer days in Hamburg.

And I was pleasantly surprised by the completely different scent experience than expected. Nothing is fluffy here. From the very beginning, a powerful, but not overwhelming, *different* gourmand experience comes into play. Immediately, there is a certain alcohol note, slightly citrusy in the first seconds, then transitioning into a distinctly strong whisky-like scent. Not too syrupy, not too clear, rather amber-colored, golden, forming streaks on the glass wall. A bit of plum mixes in, slightly bitter-spicy in its typical sweetness.

As with the Singular Oud, I must say here: it all sounds like it would trigger a feeling of fullness, but not at all! A light leather note, not too creaky, but also not silky soft, adds further substance and a dash of clear masculinity. Yes, I stand by it: I find Sensual Blend unisex enough that I would gladly wear it as a female being, but I would much prefer to sniff this scent on a man. Much rather, in fact!

Whether this is due to the more masculine alcohol domain of whisky, or the leather, or the somehow permanently resinous impression that Sensual Blend carries, I cannot say. In fact, the lovely vanilla remains completely subordinate and is never distinctly perceptible on me. Rather, amber shows up, but that too is of a brittle, spicy kind, not the delicious Yummy-amber of, for example, L'Occitane Ambre.

Meanwhile, the scent development is comparatively discreet, or I could also say: almost linear. The bitter-sweet whisky note on medium-brown leather, a small plum, and spicy amber lies powerfully on the skin and captivates me. Even on warm summer evenings, Sensual Blend does not seem out of place, no matter how wintry or autumnal the pyramid may read. Especially since it is increasingly accompanied by a slight, yet almost guaiac wood-like dryness.
And despite all its strength, the scent does not overwhelm; it maintains composure, invites closeness without leaving a feeling of being overwhelmed.

Golden evening sun at the Elbe beach suits it just as well as dark, cool autumn mornings or cozy evenings in snug restaurants; it is suitable as a companion for long walks through city & nature and in quiet, sheltered, and emotional moments. The more I sniff it, the more enthusiastic I become. If you let go of the initial expectations mentioned, you will be rewarded with a special yet not pretentious scent that, like Singular Oud, has that certain something in its fine mix of wearability and eccentricity.

Longevity: leaves nothing to be desired. It stays. Oh, it really does.

Double Beluga Glen
For me, Urban Scents is the epitome of niche, a manageable number of fragrances - no inflationary new releases, hard to find, no flashy advertising... and consistently a certain level of quality... very likable!:-)! I already found the Singular Oud really good and with a special touch, unfortunately, while sharing, at least 10ml spilled from the leaky sprayer over my hands and the living room table, so I had really had enough before I even wore it, because everything in the apartment smelled of it... Sharing with the brand, never ever.
But I was most curious about the Sensual Blend because of the notes; this combination promised nothing but good things! I was not disappointed at all, and it absolutely deserves its score.
Sensual Blend does not have a classic pyramid or development for me. From the first spray, everything is more or less there, and what is there smells very delicious!
Butter-soft, sweet-spicy honey amber, behind which they have hidden something refined-fresh, could very well be a hint of Earl Grey bergamot, just minimal... but it does the fragrance a lot of good. Because the Guerlain-worthy vanilla adds further sweetness, but creates an interesting mix with the woody, peaty, slightly malty whiskey that is truly enchanting. Visually, one must imagine a blend of Double Vanille, Cuir Beluga, and Spirit Glen by Durga. On the Guerlain side, however, less sweetness, but a bit more (wild) leather, and on the Durga side, less roughness or eccentricity. Thus, the fragrance constantly moves in calm and relaxed waters. It is strong, yet it has a calming disposition, which makes it unsuitable as an everyday scent, as office stress somehow does not suit it, rather a meditation class.
I suspect Sensual Blend is a fragrance that will make the nose sore on cool days on the back of the hand, but when worn properly, a habituation effect could quickly show, which I like to describe as saturation. Unfortunately, I often experience this with these "delicious fragrances"... but a decant in winter can certainly be exciting. For me, a totally beautiful and more than successful fragrance that will likely appeal to all (probably female) fans of Herod, Ambre Narguille, and the two aforementioned Guerlain fragrances.
The longevity is perfectly fine at just under 6 hours, on clothing even 2-3 days, the sillage is not particularly strong, but absolutely noticeable... its sensuality and romance come across quietly.
A second great fragrance from the brand, making me look forward to the other tests!

Firm male embrace
Now I am pretty much done with the Urban Scents. I believe I have tested all or almost all of the available ones, and this is the last one about which I feel the desire to say a few words here. It will really just be a few broad strokes, as there are already many accurate reviews out there.

My impressions and feelings about "Sensual Blend" are particularly well reflected in the comments by Gaukeleya and DonJuanDeCat - even though they are quite different stylistically and in the details of the fragrance description, I think they both capture the essence of this scent well, so I’ll just say: "I agree" (my rating of 9 is exactly between Gaukeleya's 10 and DonJuan's 8).

Just to add my own two cents:

I have no doubt that the notes "whisky" and "leather" are accurate, although one sometimes gets the impression with Urban Scents that playfully misleading trails are being laid. However, my own very subjective scent impression leans more towards two other, albeit related directions: brandy and wood. In my mind's eye, this fragrance conjures up an excellent, rare, full-bodied brandy, perhaps an Armagnac, a Brandy de Jerez, or a particularly fine German brandy, slowly rotating in an expansive cognac glass; and it is set down on wonderful dark furniture, perhaps made of walnut. They could be antique pieces, maybe from the Empire period, or perhaps they are newly crafted and beautifully refined by a carpenter who loves his craft.

The associations outlined above refer not only to the purely olfactory-analytical level (although I do think that the scents of wood and brandy are simply present), but also to the all-encompassing impression of quality. This fragrance strikes me as thoroughly solid, reliable, stable, in the best sense "heavy," masterfully precise and well-proportioned, like a mechanical apparatus made from the best materials available on the market and crafted by the finest masters and engineers, which still runs cleanly, smoothly, reliably, and quietly after years without a drop of oil to delight its owner.

I clearly assign "Sensual Blend" to the masculine camp (which for me never means that it cannot also be wonderful on a lady). As Gaukeleya rightly points out: vanilla and amber should not lead to the false conclusion that this is a golden, cozy gourmand lady's indulgence. Oh no! Moreover, I believe that a certain life experience and character maturity can only benefit the wearer. To youthful, impulsive daredevils, to nervous young men who are not quite sure of themselves, this fragrance, which is just as far from stuffy sluggishness or elderly foolishness and distraction, does not seem to fit. In this sense, the comment headline I recycled from a comment reply is also meant.

Unlike some others here, I can indeed recognize a certain scent progression: For me, the fragrance starts surprisingly cool-fresh and (less surprisingly) mysteriously spicy and relatively sweet, then after about an hour it seems to me drier, more austere, and almost a bit strict (of course not in the sense of "it smells strict here").

The longevity is rated well on average. Unfortunately, I must once again, as with some of my favorite brands (almost consistently with Urban Scents, but also, for example, with Annick Goutal, Parfumerie Generale, and Byredo - not at all with Harry Lehmann, Guerlain, and Caron), say that the fragrance feels very fleeting to me, even though I stand quite alone in this and do not actually want to say anything bad about this wonderful brand. But after 3 hours, it was absolutely the end of the line for me. What a shame. Perhaps it was also because I dabbed rather than sprayed, due to the nature of the sample.

Now, what was supposed to be just a few sentences has turned into a "real" comment. So be it. The beautiful fragrance actually deserves it.

Shimmering Whiskey Drops on Hot, Tanned Skin
Sensual Blend conjures an image before my eyes. It becomes even more intense at the climax.
Hot, tanned skin, slightly oily.
Drops on the skin. Shimmering drops that the sun strongly penetrates. Pressing, hot air. But no orgies of seduction. It’s simply lying there in enjoyment.
Whiskey drops. Alcoholic, slightly citrusy at first, a bit piercing, yet increasingly with a gentle spicy and slightly nutty base.

Sensual Blend starts as described, slightly piercing, easy to drink. But this is only short-lived. For then the fragrance ignites as a true feel-good base for the senses. The scent carries a beautiful spicy base within it. Not heavily spiced, rather thoughtfully peppered. Light nutmeg. A bit of coriander. Finely ground. Ah, the life of the nose can be so beautiful. Leather adorns the fragrance after the first encounter has firmly anchored itself on the skin. Not old, rough leather. It feels fine, as if silk were mixed in. Great leather scent, processed here so gently that it brings a smile to my face.
I clearly perceive vanilla in the background. It doesn’t push itself forward, easily settling into the whole. Nothing is disturbing here. Overall, the scent flows very straightforwardly and doesn’t stray onto other paths. Very uncomplicated, yet still very interesting.

Like dear Gaukeleya, I have shimmering colors before me. Amber is a good keyword here. Warm and cozy, rich in its color. Thus, Sensual Blend further enters my soul. The resin is not creaky, dry. It is rather a golden rustle through my body, slowly sinking into my heart. It becomes warm around me. The fragrance itself increasingly becomes warm, leaning against me. The brown skin is trembling. Hot air envelops the room. Sensual Blend immerses everything in a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere.

My thoughts carry a well-tanned woman, lying naked in a white bed, covered only with a white sheet. She sleeps on her stomach in a room that has a window to the open, rushing sea. Only her naked, small feet peek out from below. Her hair is in her face, as the wind slightly tousles it. Light drops shimmer on her feet..

Relaxing and calm. Serene and relaxed.

This is how Sensual Blend affects me, and it is simply dreamy.
It has been a well-considered companion for a long time. It is never intrusive. It lasts well for a day, not overwhelming the space. I don’t care, because I just want to have it for myself.

The enjoyment

The blend makes it - or not
The intention to create a fragrance with whisky as an ingredient is certainly not the worst. After all, I like the stuff ... including its scent, whether as Bourbon Whiskey or Scotch Whisky, whether as sweet Speyside or peaty Islay. However, whisky as a fragrance note within a perfume has yet to convince me - neither with A*Men Pure Malt nor with Korrigan by Lubin, although the latter at least pleasantly reminds me of Baileys (even though I hardly drink that anymore).

Sensual Blend also brings leather into play, a combination that actually seems quite promising. However, when I spray it on, the ingredients come across as a bit inappropriate, if not absolutely synthetic. It could be due to a strange rubber note that has clumsily sneaked in. At the beginning (which feels very long to me), I somehow associate it with a large leather shoe warehouse complete with rubber soles and polish. There are definitely some perfume lovers who find this sensual, to bring the name back into play - I definitely do not belong to that group!

Only after about half an hour does Sensual Blend settle down and gives the amber more room to unfold. Thus, it becomes softer and more wearable, but I am still bothered by this latent rubber issue (we're not talking about latex or anything, that smells much more interesting!)

Very late in the drydown, Sensual Blend becomes more coherent, but by then it has already breathed its last. On textiles, the scent is not only much longer lasting but also comes closer to the smooth intention of a sensual gourmand fragrance.

Therefore, I would say that Sensual Blend does not come across as inherently indecisive, but perhaps it appears more elegant on scarves or fabrics for some.

And as for the value of the fragrance: for the €180 that Sensual Blend is priced at, I would much rather buy some fine bottles of whisky. I think that would do my taste and conscience more good.

As a roughneck too elegant, as a gentleman too rough, the boozy leather mix fascinatingly showcases its shimmering ambivalence. Especially on him.

Rather dry amber with slight peaks. I find it uneven and masculine. This style has become a bit clichéd by now.
