When pale girls dance the hula...
Since I was a teenager, I have been ordering from Yves Rocher. Mainly the lip balm sticks, face creams, and shower gels. At some point, I also came across the "Monoï de Tahiti" shower gel, and I found it so wonderfully tropical and summery that the matching fragrance had to follow immediately.
I don't remember what year it was, but it was an incredibly hot summer. You couldn't take a step without practically cooking in your own juices. There was really nothing else to do but head to the nearest swimming lake or beach.
Now, I belong to the paler skin types, and that is an understatement. Back then, I was as white as a wall! Next to me, not only would Tilda Swinton's skin tone have looked like a sultry Latina, but people around me automatically tanned faster because my light skin practically reflected the sunlight! However, that didn't stop me from showing some skin and also from slathering myself generously with "Monoï de Tahiti," a scent made for a Polynesian beauty with brown skin and shiny black hair.
The fragrance actually seemed completely out of place on me, but I felt good with it and proudly presented it to my then-best friend. She tried it too and was immediately convinced. A wonderfully warm and heavy scent, dripping with white flowers and coconut oil.

With a pronounced scent trail following us, we arrived at the beach of our choice, a light breeze blowing hot like a hairdryer, and from the speakers of some borrowed radio from other beachgoers, "Somewhere over the rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was humming over to us. Thanks to my good mood and silliness, I jumped up and performed a little hula dance to the ukulele sounds, which my friend rewarded with an unending fit of laughter, but then she joined in while sitting down and moved her arms in gentle hula waves... What a wonderful carefree summer day!

While over the years I discovered other, especially fruitier summer fragrances for myself, my friend, who usually didn't wear perfume at all, remained loyal to "Monoï de Tahiti."
Almost 2 years ago, she passed away far too early from leukemia...

Now when I think of her, I see her joyfully and carefree sitting in the bright sunshine dancing the hula and laughing to the sounds of "Somewhere over the rainbow." And the scent of "Monoï de Tahiti" will never let me forget that image!

Sweeter the flowers never fall...
...than on the South Sea beach *lalalala* Fans of Yves Rocher's Monoi body oil have long been begging for a corresponding, standalone fragrance. Now it exists, and although I have never tried the body oil or any other Monoi products, I wanted this scent.

So. Ordered it. Large bottle, small price, the promise of South Sea and summer beach palm hammock blue sky 30 degrees warm was worth a blind purchase for me. Since I assumed that a low-priced 100ml bottle would guarantee low sillage and minimal longevity, I generously doused myself with it.

*Cough* I must have been quite mistaken! Wrapped in an incredibly sweet, simultaneously oily floral cloud, I staggered out of the house and thanked the weather for only 18 degrees with a strong Hamburg breeze. Although I feared the worst, no one commented on the scent, no one moved away from me or held their nose. After about 30-45 minutes, I dared a direct sniff test at my wrist: oh! Oh yes... Not so bad! Okay, floral-sweet, but that hard-to-describe oily, intrusive note had faded away.

However, a slight gumminess began to emerge. You have to like that. I still don't find the scent synthetic; to my nose, it smells, well, "naturally sweet." Coconut, even though it is supposed to be present here, I can't single out. Perhaps the combination of Tiaré flower/coconut hints at gum.

The longevity leaves nothing to be desired, at least not in the dose I sprayed *lol*. Without significant change - it may get even sweeter, but also warmer - Monoi de Tiaré slowly fades after several hours.

My conclusion: it's for fans. Specifically, for fans of sweet scents, of floral-sweet scents, and for fans of very present fragrances. You can't be shy when wearing it. Definitely unsuitable for the office. An absolute leisure and vacation scent, whether at the beach, in a beach club, or on the dance floor or whatever. I also personally imagine the wearer to be darker-skinned and brunette; yes, indeed, my imagination here conjures up the type of "exotic woman," but perhaps I've just fallen for the advertising and the quite appealingly designed outer box.

Exotic-Sweet Sun Oil
With the currently prevailing temperatures, I personally need either a zesty-refreshing scent or (as a gourmand fragrance lover) a scent with sweetness that must also be exotic and summery.
Monoi de Tahiti is exactly such a fragrance.
It is not refreshing, not zesty, and does not remind one of marine freshness.
It is sweet, but not fruity-sweet like the delicious Escada summer cocktails; rather, it is sweet-floral, minimally woody, and reminiscent of a beautiful exotic sun oil on tanned skin.
Hawaiian leis made of colorful flowers, grass skirts, palm fronds lazily swaying in the gentle breeze, Caribbean sounds, and a white sandy beach, a fluffy white towel on a warm wooden lounger, accompanied by a colada cocktail adorned with fragrant Tiaré flowers... this extremely delicious fragrance reminds me of all that.

Alongside a lot of floral Tiaré, framed by slightly sweet coconut milk, I also perceive a gentle woody note, which prevents the entire fragrance from being too sweet and thus makes it wearable for all age groups.

Considering that it is not designed as a proper perfume but as an alcohol-free body spray (correct me if I'm wrong), it actually holds up quite well and is detectable on me for 5-6 hours. The sillage is also quite strong, especially in the first hour, but then becomes more intimate.

The only downside, in my opinion, is that the fragrance is sticky. I always spray it on my neck and upper body and then quickly have to swipe my forearms/wrists over it to avoid leaving a visible sticky film on the skin or to prevent it from running down my neck. Quite a bit comes out of the spray head, which is, however, an advantage for a body spray. Three sprays are also completely sufficient.

Overall, I really like the fragrance. It brings on summer vibes, creates a good mood, and is also a bit gourmand.
P.S: It pairs excellently with the Balea After Sun Shower Gel. So anyone who likes this shower gel will surely enjoy Monoi de Tahiti!

Dilemma
Monoï de Tahiti, the oil (not dry oil) I have known for a very long time. It is no longer available, and I am glad that I still own a bottle of it. I liked and still like it very much; it smells of coconut and Monoï flowers (also called Frangipani).

However, I have experienced that ONLY this oil smelled like that. All other compositions, no matter what they were called, always smelled a bit different. And that is exactly my dilemma. I loved the oil, but I did not like a single one of the variants that YR provided.

I used Monoï de Tahiti in the summer as a sun oil when I was already tanned because the scent developed particularly beautifully in the sun. Vacation in Ibiza back then, and it smelled like Tahiti. Simply beautiful.

But this body oil was for me the sign that flankers, of any kind, cannot provide what the original gives = a cozy feeling of well-being.

Addition Dec. 19, 2023: Yves Rocher is offering the Tiaré oil again in its Christmas brochure for customers.

Lifts Your Spirits
very beautiful exotic scent that makes the rainy days a bit easier to endure, smells almost like the shower gel of the same name (blue liquid)...the floral notes are easily recognizable, chewing gum somehow too...that makes it interesting...good mood scent...highly recommended for the good price and definitely also optimal for vacation...pure anticipation

Floral, warm, sweet, exotic, with a hint of wood - like fragrant sunscreen on tanned skin, paired with a Tiaré-decorated coconut colada.

I've always liked it and still do. My poolside scent, the epitome of floral exoticism without excessive sweetness. Summer!

Exotic Tiare flowers with a hint of coconut.
Unfortunately, on me it turns into bubble gum (the pink gum tube from the 90s).

I still have a bottle of the body oil at home. A Caribbean dream, but I probably wouldn't buy it again.

At first, intense Tiaré flowers dance with coconuts in a summery-sweet waltz that quickly fades with gentle vanilla.

My favorite teen scent along with shower gel, shampoo, and especially the dry oil. To everyone's dismay, I loved coconut.

A beautiful floral exotic scent that you can definitely "smell" your age a bit. Lilial is also noticeable. H&S is fine (EdT/EdC)
