Caramelized Sugar Coating
Wow. There is yummy candy vibe going on that reminds me of the coating on Jordan Almonds. A very well behaved patchouli is so damn smooth it's insane. Blended they compliment each other. It's almost like a vanilla bean shake with a swirl of caramel. Rich, creamy and sweet with a little overcooked caramel adding just the right amount of burned boldness. This smells very seductive and opulent. If the chemicals were removed, this could be sold in the gourmet candy isle. Delicious with a capital D!

Warm and delicious but not longlasting
I've just tested this perfume from a decant I received from a friend. I loved it immediately and on my skin I smelled mainly the warm benzoin base note, less the flowery heart.
But the fragrance stayed only for a half hour and then unfortunately it evaporated !
I don't know if it's my skin or the real scent longevity, but I was expecting something more longlasting, for a longer oriental pleasure!

Oriental Sounds to Powder Flowers...
... Powder flowers that are plentiful here and yet do not smell floral at all :)

Thanks to a dear Parfumo, I became aware of this fragrance. He sent me a sample, and the scent quickly landed on my wish list.
In the souk, I found it, and now a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved :)
About the scent:
Ombre Mercure starts off a bit musty ... but this quickly transforms into a powdery iris. A velvety-soft rose joins in.
I don't detect ylang-ylang, but soon the violets and jasmine come into play. I would describe the scent up to that point as floral powder that makes no floral impression at all. Perfect for me since I don't like "too floral."
My first thought was ... it smells like Insolence EdP by Guerlain ... just not as heavy. Softer, more tender.
But with each further test, I moved away from this supposed fragrance twin.
No ... aside from a tiny similarity, Ombre Mercure has nothing in common with Guerlain.
With benzoin, fine patchouli, and vanilla, it moves into the base, and the floral powder scent gains oriental tones and a certain depth.
Balsamic-powdery with subtle vanilla, warm and sensual ... that is Ombre Mercure. A very harmonious fragrance.
Ombre Mercure is wearable for many occasions, and I would see it as a year-round scent ... it is not intrusive yet present with a delicate, sensual scent aura.
The longevity is just under 8 hours. I would describe the sillage as moderate.
The bottle is simple, beautiful, and heavy.
I perceive the scent as feminine ... but since it was recommended to me by a Parfumo as one of his compliment-getters, bold men should feel free to test it too :)
Conclusion:
Wow... This sensual scent radiates warmth. Oriental tones to powdery floral notes. Not too much of anything ... very harmonious! Beautiful!

Psssst... a truly beautiful scent that is easy to wear, which does not score points with any complicated scent development ... clear testing recommendation!

Amphitryon

Of all things, I had to take my oral final exam in astronomy, and since I had a grade of one, I thought I could just coast through. However, when I miserably failed at the formula for the Earth's orbit around the Sun, the examination board showed mercy and asked me to name all the planets of our solar system and their characteristics. Back then, I thought if they also required me to tell them the distance from the Sun and how long each takes to complete an orbit, I would be completely done for. But I was familiar with the planets themselves. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Saturn, for example, has rings and about 61 moons, while Jupiter even has 63. At that time, Pluto was still considered the 9th planet. Now it no longer is. But apparently, it is still there, and no one really knows where it came from or what it plans to do next. At least I passed the subject with a 2. The Newfoundland dog of a former neighbor was named Pluto; maybe he would have known.
Somehow, the story of Amphitryon comes to mind when I think of Goutte de Mercure, in which the godfather Jupiter, the Roman (not the Greek) chief god from Olympus, travels to Earth accompanied by Mercury to seduce the beautiful Alcmene and transforms into her husband Amphitryon, who is currently wandering somewhere in the botany on a war path.
Somehow, the beautiful Alcmene has to be enchanted so that she doesn't catch on, so the messenger god Mercury brings a huge bouquet of flowers, and from the powder clouds rising from Iris plus root, Alcmene becomes quite dizzy. To help Jupiter unwrap the enchanted lady from her dress, she is additionally creamed with sweet violets and adorned with ylang flowers.
Juno, the chief goddess and Jupiter's wife, has noticed her husband's absence and suspects what he is up to.
She roars through the clouds and threatens him with the sandalwood stick:
“Jupipi, are you seducing another mortal again? If you don't come home immediately, there will be no ambrosia today, and Apollo will get your vanilla pudding!”

The pure seduction in the shadow of Mercury!
I have been seduced - through the mail via a fragrant package from a very dear perfumista who sent me some samples. Thank you so much again for this!

Didn’t “Hannibal Lecter” say in “The Silence of the Lambs,” “we desire what we see”? That’s exactly how I felt after opening the envelope. Among the various samples, this one from “Ombre Mercure” stood out due to its dark liquid and piqued my curiosity about its contents.

Since I’m not the type to say “I’ll do it tomorrow,” I immediately put a few drops on my wrist. Instantly, various flowers (primarily iris, ylang-ylang, and jasmine) swirl around my nose. Strangely, it’s not overly sweet, but rather light and buoyant. Quite quickly, benzoin and vanilla mix into the scene, yet they do not destroy this floral cheerfulness. Patchouli barely comes through for me. And so, Ombre Mercure remains as it is, not changing, but gently enveloping me with its powdery floral-vanilla veil.

I am absolutely thrilled! The scent is warm and very sensual, while being extremely elegant, stylish, and unobtrusively present. The base notes ensure that, over time, it never becomes “flowery,” despite the many blossoms.

I don’t understand the name, as what is supposed to happen in the shadow of Mercury? I would have found a name like “Séduction” (Seduction) much more fitting. But it doesn’t matter.

In my opinion, this fragrance calls for a grand setting (ball, opera, theater) or, conversely, for intimate togetherness. Give it a try ;-)

For some gentlemen, this is certainly a unique fragrance experience, but since Ombre Mercure is very clingy and not overly forward, it should also be absolutely wearable for men. A certain level of self-confidence is, however, advisable.

Well, what else can I say....Wish list!!

Benzoin-Patchouli scent where I only perceive the violet subtly. Very unique. The aura of a blown-out candle.

For me, there can be no more sensual scent - syrupy violet-benzoin sweetness, warm and profound, mature and sexy. Exceptional

What a little pig! Starts like fecal amber, made wearable with plenty of powder. The sow eventually leaves, but it remains unique.

I can smell Ylang-Ylang, violet, and rose individually, yet it feels completely non-floral in the overall composition. Fascinating!

Somewhere between Insolence and Gucci edp. Elegant, present, benzoin-sweet, soft, and unisex. Wedding scent for both at once. Romantic!
