Forbidden fruity!
I have never had the honor of meeting Terry de Gunzburg, but when I heard that Fruit Défendu is the right scent for hot days, I was curious. Until now, the fruitiest summer fragrance for me has been Orange Sanguine, but I wanted to move away from the orange, as much as I like it.
"Summer scents": That brings to mind the sugary fruit purees from Escada, or the limited diluted versions of various mainstreams. Extremely unsuitable for refreshing me or creating a summery mood. But there are some good, refreshing, zesty, little to no sweet, sometimes even dry-herb fragrances that can lure out the sun and handle warmer temperatures.
In Fruit Défendu, I have found another one:
The top note is very Italian bergamot, invigorating, not sour, just like freshly squeezed.
The progression settles equally between pineapple (also not sweet, rather on the edge of unripe, very green indeed) and mango (the exotic kick). I would love to take the heart note to Escada and scream: "Oi! This is how summer is done!", but the shock for the Escada soda users would be too great if Escada then reconsidered their compositions. The forbidden fruits that set the tone here lie in a fruit bowl of light spiciness and depth-giving rose.
The drydown moves slightly away from the fruit, transitioning into a woody-green musk bed.
The longevity is just as one would expect from a fragrance of the high niche class: good.
Amazing sillage, consistently.

A lovely little fruit...
...this perfume is not. I mean, it is beautiful, very beautiful indeed, but not a little fruit. Rather, it is much more like a painting. The sunny yellow pineapple that greets me is free of all sharpness. Not that I find it artificial, just too beautiful to be true. It doesn’t come in its own juice (which can often go off) but in a cloak of peppered powdered sugar, just like the mango, which remains motionless at the peak of its ripeness. My mouth is watering, but something is missing, namely something lively or three-dimensional or cheeky. Fruit Defendu means "forbidden fruit." The name doesn’t seem particularly fitting to me. The scent strikes me as noble, expensive, and - far too tamed. So tamed that I can imagine even women who usually don’t have much to do with fruity scents might find it appealing.
The fruity note remains in the foreground for about 2 hours, then the powdered sugar begins to slowly dissipate. Both the rose and the musk, and thank God also the pepper! are clearly perceptible and play a skillful and almost exciting game with the exotic fruits for a few minutes... until they, how could it be otherwise, do not go off or rot, but stylishly evaporate.
What remains is beautiful, but for my taste too sweet and too tame. I am also not particularly satisfied with the longevity; four to five hours is definitely too little for me.

However, when I think of all the fruity scents that (shame on me!) unknown celebrities feel they must launch during the nine and a half weeks of their fame, (do they not get any pensions?) then this scent becomes a real insider tip.

Not a candidate for purchase for me, but if someone really wanted to gift it to me, I wouldn’t say no...

The Forbidden Fruit - A Sinful Indulgence?
When we speak of a forbidden fruit, we immediately think of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise, where an apple played a crucial role.

Well, in Fruit Défendu, you will search in vain for the apple in the fragrance pyramid, but perhaps the modern man is more easily seduced by pineapple and mango today...?

But I want to start right from the beginning, as my first impression of this scent is a hefty dose of bergamot, which provides a zesty, sparkling opening.
This fits the fresh, green color of the fragrance, which I somewhat expected.

However, this impression dissipates relatively quickly, and a rebellious, super-juicy pineapple pushes the bergamot aside and takes the lead.
My mouth waters, I see yellow pineapple slices dripping with juice, eager to find their way into my mouth.
Then a mango rolls by, also very delicious and refreshing, but not quite as assertive as its tropical counterpart, pineapple.

All in all, very tasty, but a true fruit bomb, and I already wonder if that’s all there is.
Fruity scents are usually not my first choice if they don’t have anything surprising to offer.

But waiting usually pays off.....!
After a while, the tropical fruit explosion fizzles out, and a fine, very pleasant rose note emerges, delicately underpinned by creamy musk, revealing the fragrance's feminine side.
Aha, there’s Eve back in action!
If an aggressive assault with juicy fruits still can’t lure Adam, she comes around the corner with roses and wraps him around her finger once again.
Helplessly, he wriggles in her net, resistance is now futile, and he finally lays down his arms.

However, the fact is that this act of seduction can only take place in summer; in winter, perhaps baked apple and marzipan would be more suitable.
This fragrance is certainly only wearable in spring and summer, but then it is a very nice addition to the Gunzburg line.

All in all, a lovely fragrance with an interesting progression, but it is still not a candidate for purchase for me, as I am not sure if I can handle this overdose of fruit very often.
It somewhat reminds me of Eau Sensuelle by Rochas, where the fruit was used a bit more subtly, which I prefer slightly.
But testing is definitely worth it, especially if one is suffering from occasional vitamin deficiency :)

Forbidden fruit? :) It's juicy, realistic pineapple with delicate rose & pink pepper. Makes me feel joyful & energized. Good longevity.

Starts with a juicy fruit explosion and later transforms into a gentle summer rose on a bed of musk. Great evolution!

Fruity without being sweet - it really is possible! Authentic pineapple! But everything is quite subtle... a bit too light for me, still nice!

Mango flirts eagerly with the pineapple, bergamot embraces the beautiful rose without being intrusive.
A fine, light summer scent!

Pineapple dream at the start, then rose-musk. The top note promises more. Still, a nice scent with subtle sillage.

Tropical fruit medley with rose. Starts green & despite syrupy consistency, it’s sparkling, then matures & becomes fluffy and woody. Nice.

Successful blind purchase! Perfect spring scent: balanced, lightly sweet, subtly fruity, with green nuances, yet remains soft.

Fruity, zesty, elegant, not sticky sweet or synthetic. This is how a fruit scent should smell. Fruits that glisten with morning dew!

Pineapple is slightly sour and very fruity, not sweet. Musk comes through after a while. Refreshing summer scent.
