Forbidden fruity!
I have never had the honor of meeting Terry de Gunzburg, but when I heard that Fruit Défendu is the right scent for hot days, I was curious. Until now, the fruitiest summer fragrance for me has been Orange Sanguine, but I wanted to move away from the orange, as much as I like it.
"Summer scents": That brings to mind the sugary fruit purees from Escada, or the limited diluted versions of various mainstreams. Extremely unsuitable for refreshing me or creating a summery mood. But there are some good, refreshing, zesty, little to no sweet, sometimes even dry-herb fragrances that can lure out the sun and handle warmer temperatures.
In Fruit Défendu, I have found another one:
The top note is very Italian bergamot, invigorating, not sour, just like freshly squeezed.
The progression settles equally between pineapple (also not sweet, rather on the edge of unripe, very green indeed) and mango (the exotic kick). I would love to take the heart note to Escada and scream: "Oi! This is how summer is done!", but the shock for the Escada soda users would be too great if Escada then reconsidered their compositions. The forbidden fruits that set the tone here lie in a fruit bowl of light spiciness and depth-giving rose.
The drydown moves slightly away from the fruit, transitioning into a woody-green musk bed.
The longevity is just as one would expect from a fragrance of the high niche class: good.
Amazing sillage, consistently.
