Even Ouds Need a Bath
“Terryfic Oud L'Eau” is another rose-oud combo… that positively and particularly surprised me!

This noble perfume immerses the well-known and still seemingly extremely popular scent duo in entirely new, soapy bathtub tones! That must be the “L'Eau” component. I can understand that.

At its core, it is still rosy and dark-woody. But this agarwood is simply scrubbed down with the finest soap and ice-cold water. It has almost become a clear chypre. More feminine. But so strict, coherent, wiry, and defined that even we three-legged ones can wear it and even set exquisite accents. As a man, wearing such a thorny rose scent requires courage and, in my opinion, excellent style. I don’t know the original “Terryfic Oud” yet, but I can now imagine it much better and much “thicker.” This “L'Eau” is wiry, muscular, and super cleanly made. Light, transparent, never watery or arbitrary. Addictive saffron in light mode. No calories, just strength. Everything is very (positively) prickly and unique. One has respect for it. Yet, it can be worn often and gladly, not just for events. Airy and loving - once you’ve cracked the dragon. I love it!

Bottle: sparkling and grand
Sillage: strong for a L'Eau
Longevity: Ouds last forever on my skin - this one easily 8 hours

Conclusion: a very clean, soapy, and strict, highly ambitious and luxurious rose-oud combo - wonderfully commanding!

Fine Sound Woods
I love mystical scents, and most "wood scents" belong to this genre.
Terry de Gunzburg was unknown to me even as an "established perfumer" until I received a sample from another perfumer member.
It really only takes a small drop, and the fragrance immediately reveals its full beauty.
The softly bergamot and lavender top notes are soon replaced by the pure, dark "sound" of slightly rosy wood.
So gentle and "round" like the sounds of a large wooden xylophone.
The "tones" become a bit brighter when saffron joins in. This creates a "honey-colored tone".
In the "background," the lemon-yellow tone of bergamot is not forgotten.
Foreground-wise, it goes down a notch on the "scale".
Earthy brown, and in the deep bass, patchouli tunes in.
Amber mimics the color of amber, slightly lighter than the patchouli.
The "melody" becomes perfect when the "high C," in blue, of cedar wood joins in and provides the tonal fine-tuning.
And this mysterious "scent xylophone" holds its notes for a very long time and even adds a bit with an "echo" that seems to come from the depths.
If the "L'Eau" of this fragrance is already so pleasant and long-lasting, what kind of sounds might the L'Extrème produce?

Terry can do it!
Terry de Gunzburg has captivated me since her outstanding "Ombre Mercure," and since then, I have become something of a devotee of her fragrances and.....her powder compacts! I don't use any, but a very dear friend once handed me a ByTerry powder compact with the remark "Here, feel this." And I swear, that powder compact has practically become one with my palm. I know it sounds a bit strange, but this texture had something soothing about it. It was as if someone had put everything in "Slow Motion." Incredible!

But okay, before I get lost in the powder compact universe of Terry de Gunzburg, I'd better get to the actual topic, the latest fragrance "Terryfic Oud L'Eau."

Since I found the original (Terryfic Oud) just okay, it didn't ignite my desire to purchase, so I was all the more curious about this flanker from the attractive Frenchwoman.

My expectation was simply to find a more restrained version of "Terryfic Oud" in "Terryfic Oud L'Eau," as is often the case with such flankers. The question for me was just how well or less well that had been achieved.

But right from the start, I was alerted (or rather, sniffed) by the opening. It is citrusy fresh and slightly tart, yet it still avoids that typical fresh impression. The citrus notes, in my opinion, come from fully ripe fruits that skillfully blend with the scent of (crushed) raspberries. Here, nothing bites or prickles; instead, it skillfully prepares for what is to come in the fragrance.

Even now, I can perceive a hint of the main protagonist. Very far away and very gently, light oud nuances begin to emerge.

These are interwoven with a light, very fine, and elegant lavender note, followed by delicate threads of saffron that appear finely woven.

The citrus notes are no longer present for me; instead, the oud note increasingly takes center stage, laying itself over lavender and saffron without overpowering them. Overall, the oud here is very fine, soft, and cuddly, completely devoid of any medicinal attributes.

Slowly, a bit of rose (which I find rather diluted, but that is absolutely fine here) and cedar join the trio. The cedar also strikes a softer tone, as if it doesn't want to overshadow the oud. It almost seems as if everyone here is in agreement and completely clear about who the star of the fragrance should be.

As we approach the base, patchouli (warm, gentle, soft), amber (deep, sensual, slightly spicier than I usually know it), and musk (absolutely non-soapy, but very mature) come into play.

All the protagonists appear increasingly fine and tightly woven together the longer the fragrance lingers on the skin. And it does so, despite being "only" an EDT, for an astonishingly long 7 - 9 hours.

"Terryfic Oud L'Eau" is for me much more than "just" a flanker; it is much more an independent Terry de Gunzburg oud fragrance, not a diluted or stretched "Terryfic Oud." Personally, I don't know any oud fragrance that comes across as so light and buoyant without being boring or even arbitrary. "Terryfic Oud L'Eau" has delicate traits but still exhibits a deep strength. It is intricately composed, yet by no means fragile.

For me, this fragrance is an ideal summer scent because it allows you to wear oud even in warmer temperatures without spreading fear and terror in your surroundings. Perhaps also a great starter perfume for the vast field of oud fragrances.

From my perspective, "Terryfic Oud L'Eau" is definitely unisex, lasts long for an EDT, is absolutely well-crafted, and the bottle is a work of art in itself, elegant and heavy. I find it a bit difficult to rate the sillage. Initially rather strong, it decreases relatively quickly and settles in the medium range for me. But I think the fragrance will develop differently in more warmth. However, we don't have much of that at the moment ;-))

One thing is for sure: "Terryfic Oud L'Eau" will definitely make it into my collection, and I am already looking forward to summer.....with Terry and me!

Bergamot, saffron, woody oud, rose - and then a long, wild night of love. Wonderful and somehow a bit naughty ;)

Aromatic bitter saffron, juicy spicy oud, creamy fresh with plenty of amber and a very fine acidity.
Wonderfully perfectly balanced!

This saffron is dark-soft, drifting in a pre-depressive amber (is there cumin involved?) and can't find any flowers.

Very bright oud scent with many facets: rose, spices, wood, freshness. Far from the theme of the Orient. Those looking for that will be satisfied here!
