The One Who Always Depended on the Kindness of Strangers
This is how Tennessee Williams' Blanche DuBois can be briefly summarized with her own quote, that tragic main character in his arguably most famous play 'A Streetcar Named Desire', alongside 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' and 'The Glass Menagerie', known in German as 'Endstation Sehnsucht'. Blanche, a former teacher from Mississippi, desperately and vainly clings to the sinking Southern aristocracy and its societal norms (and her youth, which slips through her fingers like sand), says this famous and often-quoted line at the very end to an unnamed man, in whose arm she links herself as he comes to take her away to a mental institution: 'I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.'

For the self-assured and self-determined woman of today, dependence on the favor of strangers seems hardly comprehensible, let alone appealing. And yet I find a strangely faded poetry in it - something of a staggering butterfly, both alluring and helpless - glowing in pale pastel tones and doomed to decline without the sun. I find the same paradoxical dualism - the flirtatious allure and the fall - in Terry de Gunzburg's Parti Pris, which connects blooming femininity with a protective, almost nostalgically innocent girlhood. And precisely for this reason, it can also be worn by a bearer who does not need the kindness of strangers.

The characteristic notes - tuberose and orange blossom - are considered perhaps the most feminine (in the sense of least unisex-appropriate) and polarizing among those commonly found in contemporary perfumes. There is the capriciousness, the difficulty, the occasionally affected gracefulness, which makes it not always easy to empathize with Williams' Blanche. In contrast, there is something defenseless and vulnerable, represented by a bitterly flickering sweetness - bright woods and something faintly burnt - and a fleetingness and shyness that is at least unusual for a tuberose-orange blossom scent. All of this - the alluring, the delicate, and the vulnerable - makes Parti Pris appealing and very special in its pale girlhood.

Conclusion: a fragrance like the distant echo of a lost femininity. Yet to be worn even today - perhaps with a light yellow silk dress, adorned with a bouquet of artificial violets on the lapel - like Blanche DuBois from Laurel, Mississippi, when she last depended on the kindness of a stranger.

What Flora Nymphea promises, Parti Pris definitely delivers!
Just from the name, I expected a lot from Flora Nymphea, but I was disappointed. I have such problems with the Guerlains. Today, a sample of Parti Pris arrived that was far too small, way too small, because I could bathe in it. A truly wonderful work of art that I have never encountered before. WOW, WOW, WOW! Although there is nothing of bees in it, I distinctly perceive the finest, fresh beeswax. No, not that dusty smell from yellow honeycomb candles, but rather a very fresh, warm, sunny, and comforting wax with a few drops of honey on it.

Infinitely soft and balanced. I had a hard time categorizing it, as everything I perceive here is not listed. Keywords like balsamic, amber-colored, waxy, cozy, protective, delicious, and oily are simply missing. The scent is none of what is stated. The ingredients are so finely woven that one cannot say it is spicy, smoky, floral, woody, or resinous. It is a unique blend of all of that. Yes, it is sweet, but somehow also not, no, it is not lovely or sticky either. Just describing the type of sweetness is difficult. Nothing stands out here. Frankincense, tobacco, vetiver often make me recoil, but in combination with vanilla, tolu balsam, and sandalwood, I can't even tell you, these ingredients are tamed so beautifully that it results in a wonderful, unique composition.

What the scent smells like would need a new word to be invented. Balsamic, amber-colored, I believe that comes closest to it. The scent belongs in autumn and winter and on gray days when one finds no joy. When one is sad, when one needs comfort. It takes away all haste, calms immediately, and caresses. Valerian is an orphan child compared to this. I have read that it is also supposed to contain lemon balm and cistus. It is very personal, merges with the skin, emphasizes the desire for closeness, nudity, cuddling, and snuggling.

I can only say, test it for yourself and fall in love. Bam - it goes straight onto the wish list. Thank you, Cherguia!

Comforting Soul Soother
This perfume captivated me immediately.
First, a warmly inviting, almost fresh tuberose enchants the senses, soon it steps back and lets the warmer flowers of ylang and rose take the stage.
They are supported by a wonderfully charming blend of sandalwood, tolu, and a hint of vanilla.
I can't detect any incense, and vetiver remains very subtle, which is good in this case. Perhaps it is precisely these two that provide the skillful balance in this scent.
This perfume is feminine and very suitable for everyday wear, modern.
Well done, and its charm lies in its discreet restraint for me.
I can smell it very well on myself, but it won't overwhelm my surroundings.
The bottle is also lovely, with a touch of nostalgia, it fits nicely in the hand in the 50ml(!) version.
I don’t mind having to reapply in the evening to enjoy the lovely tuberose again; it’s a little flacon that I gladly carry around.
"Parti Pris" comforts me just as much after a not-so-great day as it does while lounging on the sofa after a bad crime show.
And in the morning, it lifts my spirits; what more could I want?

Drops of Bliss, or: with you I cannot be sad...
Parti Pris is for me like a lovely girl: cuddly and bright, radiant, happy, enchanting, dancing through gentle morning dew or the first, crisp frost.
She is aware of her grace and loveliness, without using it to her advantage. When her surroundings address her, she only lets a silver laugh ring out, which inevitably infects those around her. She prefers to wear flowing dresses in white or pastel, which are trimmed with ruffles around her ankles. When she walks through gentle meadows in them, the wind rustles through them.
For me, Parti Pris seems to have sprung from a Jane Austen novel.

The scent has a striking similarity to Gaultier's Classique from top to heart note, which I attribute mainly to the orange blossom. However, here the orange blossom is neither alcoholic nor peppery, but rather accompanied by a generous dollop of the finest cream. This creaminess runs through the entire scent journey and makes Parti Pris incredibly cuddly and soothing.
Unlike Classique, I would not call Parti Pris "sexy" (nothing could be further from Jane Austen!), the allure arises more from a natural beauty and cheerful elegance.
For this very reason, Parti Pris is also not a sillage monster, but a skin scent that is close to the body, which acts and radiates like a natural aura.
When I wear this scent, I simply cannot succumb to any melancholy or bad mood - with you, Parti Pris, you beautiful girl, I cannot be sad!

Subtle, warming scent, but too weak for an EdP
Here comes my comment on Parti Pris by Terry de Gunzburg, my favorite among her 5 fragrances. I don’t understand why the scent has this name, but that’s not really important (according to the dictionary, Parti pris = preconceived opinion, bias).

At the beginning, the scent is perceived as floral, but it quickly transitions into the balsamic notes and the ylang-ylang.

It becomes really delicious and soft, but unfortunately, it is very subdued on my skin; for an Eau de Parfum, the scent should be significantly stronger.

Conclusion: a warming, not too sweet, pleasant scent, but in my opinion, too weak.

I’m curious to see how it performs on other testers :-)

*Orange Blossom-Tuberose-Nivea*
Lush cream scent ...
Did I mention Nivea?
Reminds me of "By Night White"
without lemon, with flowers :)

Soft - feminine - Wuberose .. oh no, tuberose with orange blossom .. then it becomes oriental-balsamic without heaviness and too much sweetness. OK!

Strong floral scent that shifts between strict bitter and sweet, almost synthetic. Yet, it has little distinctiveness.

You should like tuberose & orange blossom. Sleek, floral, creamy, intense. There are more extreme ones, but this is already too much for me.

Sunscreen-like orange blossom, soft and smooth, not too sharp. A hint of smokiness in the drydown. Not true love, but a like!

Starts off very powdery and sweet, deliciously cozy, becomes a bit smoky and ends sadly, leaving behind a strong animalistic scent.

Bitter and floral. For me, there's nothing delicate and sweet, but almost metallic and smooth. I would love to smell what you smell.
