Other than expected.
After I really liked the Crème Caramel I was curious about the Dark Chocolate
I love chocolate fragrances anyway and whenever a new chocolate fragrance is released, I am always looking forward to finally being able to test it.
Dark Chocolate is a fragrance that surprised me.
When I think of Dark Chocolate, the first thing I think of is dark chocolate, very intense, strongly chocolaty, full-bodied, aromatic and not too sweet.
However, the fragrance starts completely differently than expected.
The first thing I notice is mandarin/orange. Not fresh, juicy fruit, but orange marmalade. Very sugary sweet, jelly-like, like the fruity filling of chocolates or cookies.
This is joined by fresh, spicy cardamom, which remains discreetly in the background but is definitely perceptible.
After a short time, the hoped-for chocolate note arrives. The chocolate is not an intense dark chocolate, but rather milk chocolate with less cocoa content than dark chocolate.
The scent reminds me of Soft Cake Orange. A thin sponge cake base covered with fruity sweet jelly, topped with a delicate layer of chocolate.
Dark Chocolate remains linear and does not change much. Only in the drydown does a subtle vanilla note develop, giving the fragrance a slight creaminess.
The longevity of 8 to 10 hours is very good. I can still smell it on clothes the next day.
Anyone expecting a pure chocolate fragrance will certainly be disappointed, because I would classify Dark Chocolate more as a fruity gourmand fragrance as the chocolate plays a rather subordinate role.
But if you are looking for a spicy-fruity chocolate fragrance, you should definitely give Dark Chocolate a try.
Even if I find the name a bit misleading and had imagined something else under it, I really liked the fragrance and I will wear it often when the days get cooler again.
