An Erba Pura Tribute or Truly Independent?
Today I’m back from my “Easter review break”…
And I come with a fragrance that has raised questions about my statement or rather aims to provide a bit more clarity.
But I want to start with a fundamental question along with a brief excursion into my other passion - watches.
The question for me is whether Extreme Passion is a tribute to Erba Pura or an independent story with parallels.
Importantly, this can really be viewed and evaluated individually.
Excursion - Watches:
In the watch world, there are popular watch models, for example, a Rolex Submariner. What is not acceptable are so-called fakes or replicas that call themselves Rolex but are not - and this comes in various qualities - after all, it’s misleading to be something that it is not.
We don’t have that situation here, as we are dealing with Extreme Passion and not a “fake Erba Pura,” although such fragrances are also faked on the market, so be generally cautious - I think you all know about the fake danger, yet I mention it.
Another topic in watches is tributes and independent models.
For example, the watch brands Steinhart & Davosa are (mostly!) known for a so-called tribute to Rolex, particularly the Submariner. This means they lean on the popular design of the Submariner, but they change something and incorporate more or less independent features, perhaps making the model larger or smaller in diameter, to the point that the brand, like Steinhart, is visibly present.
Tributes are not without criticism, as it is also said that one can indeed find many other watches with independent designs that do not look like the Submariner in this case.
Nevertheless, it remains a personal question here whether one (currently) wants it or not, clearly more legitimate than a fake.
However, I have also mentioned independent watches, whether they are the single-hand watches from BOTTA Design or the artistic & striking watches from Alexander Shorokhoff, one has a diverse selection in watches.
Now I return to the fragrance, as I perceive Extreme Passion as something between a tribute and independence.
In my statement, I described it as more noble because I consider the implementation to be fine-soft, somewhat more sensitive, and I do not want to label Erba Pura as less noble - but rather more noble.
Additionally, I like that it appears much more natural and complements this woody aspect that Erba Pura does not have (independence?). Overall, I find that Erba Pura, in its own way as a fragrance, is thus independent of the performance itself, which I do not want to describe as derogatory (I have already dedicated a review to this - summer fragrance for winter).
Yes, the performance here is very strong, possibly screaming for some - but for me, the fragrance character is rather softer.
Thus, the question is whether the fragrance is a tribute, as you can already notice a certain “Erba Pura” effect, but again more sensitive & finer and in a different way of handling and then with other and/or complementary aspects. Moreover, it also somehow seems slightly more valuable than Erba Pura, which would not happen in the comparison with Steinhart and Rolex.
Thank you for reading - about my current summer favorite
