New Year's Eve ride
I've told you about my riding vacations before. But today I'm going to get to the abyss, haha. If you were a child in the eighties like me, you know that things were a bit rougher back then than they are today.
Once a week, a group of adults came to ride on the farm in the evening. And on New Year's Eve every year, a New Year's Eve ride was organized for this group, which was considered legendary. How often did we children dream of taking part in it. And one year, we must have been around 14 or 15 years old, the time had come. Another girl was allowed to go on the ride with me. The horses were saddled up early in the morning and off we went. First the long gallop track, where we could really let the horses run and then the first station was already waiting.
What were these stations all about? We stopped off at the homes of friends and relatives of the people on the farm and there were high-proof drinks for the group of riders and we children were also allowed to help ourselves. Some stations offered dark red, sweet Eckes Edelkirsch alongside Korn, Vodka & Co. which tasted a little too strong and burned too much for us girls. Yummy! It went down a treat. That's why we always reached for a glass of the red, sugary, sticky liquid instead of a clear one. And that was an advantage: not only did the cherry liqueur taste better than the schnapps, after a few hours we were still halfway able to ride, unlike the adult group. The older gentlemen played games to see who could throw the other person off the horse the quickest. The riding instructor, usually a serious to grumpy type, performed tricks on horseback (or at least tried to) and landed on the ground several times himself. We, however, stayed on top and couldn't quite figure out what was happening. We were also amused by the liqueur, but the rest of us, who were actually responsible for us, were full of starry-eyed laughter. Unthinkable today!
Cherry Ink smells just like Ecke's Edelkirsch and takes me straight back to the back of my horse on New Year's Eve and I enjoy a glass of cherry liqueur here and there. It's a simple scent, but it's actually quite nice to my nose. Cherry and alcoholic notes dominate, along with a few flowers that have a body lotion-like effect and that wonderful doll note, known from Confetto, for example, which I like so much. Oud can only be guessed at. If you don't know, you won't notice any oud here. It's certainly not a fragrance that I urgently need right now, but I'm beginning to understand the hype surrounding cherry fragrances, because they can really put you in a good mood, just like Eckes. It's hard to get past the cherry hype at the moment.
If I were as young again today as I was then, I think I might even have bought this fragrance. With its somewhat shrill nature, Cherry Ink would have fitted in very well with the eighties.
I would like to thank Morgaina very much for the testing opportunity.
