Berserkers were, according to the lore from Old Norse, Germanic warriors in wolf skins who fought in a frenzy and felt no pain. Accordingly, they were particularly feared because they were unpredictable and extremely difficult to defeat.

What actually caused this so-called berserker rage in the warriors remains unclear to this day. Some experts suggest drug-like substances, while others point to a psychopathic phenomenon.

Be that as it may, Berserker by Marc Gebauer will cause virtually no intoxication or berserker rage in the wearer, no matter how heavily one sprays it on. After all, this, let’s say, fragrance is too much oriented towards essential oils, which remind one more of a mixture of highly concentrated bath essence and sauna infusion.

It has a bit of that Nordic and natural vibe, evoking forests and relaxation - but nothing to do with rage, frenzy, bloodlust, and pain suppression, unless one reacts disturbed to eucalyptus, against which the incense, even if mentioned at all levels of the pyramid, has little assertiveness.

Here and there, one might perceive some hints of other spicy notes or a bit of patchouli, but only in the late-arriving drydown does the smoky "Berserker" calm down with warm amber, sandalwood, a touch of vanilla, and a good amount of musk. From here, the relaxation mode begins. After all, no one should say that this creation is coarse and raw and does not showcase any development.

It is also worth mentioning the linked clip to the fragrance. Everyone should literally get a picture of the promotional appearance of Berserker. Yes, it does come across as quite martial and bloodthirsty, but in my opinion, that doesn’t really fit the fragrance or what it actually reminds one of. Gebauer fans will certainly appreciate this positively... even if they were to market the smell of chain grease soon.

No matter - anyone who wants to smell with a brutal sillage as if they have been indulging in a Siberian pine needle infusion for hours can at least look forward to this like crazy.

Against Expectations

On time, along with other pre-orderers, I received my Berserker in a nice little package with a fragrance card sample of Orange Flamingo.

Having already owned "Air Tiger | Marc Gebauer," "Orange Flamingo | Marc Gebauer," and "Arabian King | Marc Gebauer," I was admittedly very curious about the content of the scenically well-promoted "Berserker | Marc Gebauer."

After having experienced the bizarre H/S of Air Tiger in some scenarios as almost provocative, I was a bit hesitant to wear the content of the newly acquired Berserker and then head to work shortly thereafter.

I must confess I was afraid that Marc's individual line would be sacrificed in favor of an even "crazier" H/S due to the not insignificant expectations, but I am now pleasantly surprised.

To classify the fragrance:
Berserker is, for me, to be categorized as an all-round fragrance and is, in my opinion, suitable for all situations. The scent has very decent longevity and sillage, but excites me with an accurately created fragrance atmosphere of a luxury sauna. The scent smells similar to the fresh infusion of an expensive, well-maintained sauna. I would compare it to Bois Marocain in the old version before the re-release. (Which is really positive, as BM is one of my favorite Tom Fords).

The scent remains well perceivable for about 10 hours without being overpowering. More like a pleasant companion, noticeable but not intrusive.

I find Air Tiger challenging and sometimes too strong.

"Berserker | Marc Gebauer," despite its name, can be worn both at a business meeting and when meeting with a loved one. I believe the fragrance is very versatile and pleasing, always bringing a touch of freshness with its eucalyptus note.

Despite the presence of incense in the top, heart, and base notes, I would not describe the scent as a classic incense fragrance like "Interlude Man | Amouage."
At its core, it is a very elegant, long-lasting woody scent that always manages to exude a certain class.

In principle, I would describe the fragrance along with Orange Flamingo as a blind buy worth it. A good all-round fragrance and certainly the "easiest" scent to start with the Marc Gebauer brand.
The bottle is typically minimalist but beautiful.

I find the price-performance ratio very good compared to "Bois Marocain | Tom Ford." 200€ for 100ml is fair, the scent lasts long and feels high quality.

Hi, my name is Berserker...

I come without malicious intent, even if my name might suggest otherwise.
I believe my creator wants to portray me as a bit more martial than I actually am.

In my little house (bottle), there are wonderful guests, about whom I would like to tell you a little. This way, you will get to know my true inner values.

In the attic, I have invited the colleagues of pink pepper, alongside fresh bergamot and the two "tough guys" frankincense and eucalyptus.
And what can I say, like a biblical plague, frankincense has also invaded the middle floor as well as the ground floor of my fine little house.
As soon as the first guests arrived, there was already the first commotion.
Eucalyptus would not tolerate such intrusive behavior.
As a result, he flexes all his muscles and behaves as conspicuously as possible to stand up to frankincense.
The bergamot type found that all too much; he simply ran away. And the colleagues of pink pepper acted like meerkats in the face of danger.

The invited guests on the middle floor were patchouli and cedar, who, with a few smoky notes, show their presence, but are not particularly noticeable.

On the ground floor, I am especially pleased about the presence of a queen. Vanilla.
Vain, sweet, and strong at the same time, as one often gets to know her, she shows a slightly different face in my rooms. The vanilla does not want to confront the clamor of the two aggressors and thus subtly radiates her aura.
Since we usually know her as quite dominant, one might think she is not there, but believe me, with the right perspective, you can recognize her quite well. She increasingly brings a bit more harmony.

She is supported in this by amber and musk.
I had my worries, as these two figures are often to be approached with caution. When they make noise, it can also be quite unpleasant.
However, they settle into the quieter corner here and harmonize in a wonderful synergy with vanilla in my space. Sandalwood is the last guest we were able to welcome.
Fortunately, this pleasant colleague also joins the trio of the previously mentioned.

Vetiver was on the guest list, but he did not show up. Maybe I just didn't see him; who knows?

As you can see, there is quite a bit going on with me. If you can't handle frankincense and eucalyptus, you should better keep your distance from me. The two have firmly anchored themselves here and do not want to leave.

Whether I smell like a sauna infusion or a cold bath, that is something everyone must define for themselves.

AWAKEN THE BERSERKER IN YOU !!

This scent literally turns you into a berserker. I was lucky enough to receive the fragrance yesterday and, of course, I applied it right away.
What happened next resembled a Deadpool satire: I immediately fell into a euphoric state. Everything was absolutely clear, I could suddenly see sharply for 400km without glasses and heard the chirping of crickets in the nearby woods.
Unfortunately, I couldn't explore this further, as time was pressing due to work. I hurried, but in my intoxicated eagerness, I missed a step and fell down a 6-meter-long staircase. My forearm has been a bit out of place since then, but that's no reason for a sick note, as I feel no pain!
On my way to work, my car was rammed by a city bus and hurled 333 meters across the street until a guardrail stopped it. Since then, a piece of the steel beam has been lodged in my back. But it's just a scratch. I got out and suddenly the bus driver's pulse seemed so tempting that I was glad I hadn't taken the supplied damask knife with me.
When I tried to clarify the little mishap with the driver, I was hit by a second city bus. I crashed through the large windshield and flew out the back until I landed on a construction site. There, a cement mixer poured fresh cement over me. But I had to keep fighting, because a lost day without work is not a good day!
Upon arriving at work, covered in cement and battered by a steel beam, I was supposed to go home.
Then I had to take over the business on short notice, because what kind of weak attitude is that?
It needs POWER, STRENGTH, STRENGTH.
By lunchtime, I had an enormous appetite for parmesan but... no time for a break!
The rest of the day went rather boring; I made only double the revenue with the business that day compared to last year - room for improvement.
On the way home, I ran the 42 km in under 2 hours. Actually just to cancel my apartment, because from now on, there will be no more sleeping!
I also quickly fetched the knife. It will be my loyal companion from now on; let's see how tomorrow goes with it.

Stop wanting to wear the scent...

Berserker is a rather uncompromising fragrance - coniferous forest - incense - patchouli - spice.

This scent has never intended to be liked. For some, it smells like a sauna visit, for others like a sunrise in Scandinavian forests.
And that’s exactly what I appreciate about this fragrance - it is not mass-pleasing, like the Orange Flamingo from the same house, but it divides opinions, not least because of the brutality with which it presents itself.

The incense comes across to me as very "church-like" - whether it would have matched these coniferous woods warmer and darker, I dare to doubt. This "Nordic" spice has to appeal to someone - it will surely be difficult if you mostly explore scents from the Orient.

Accordingly, I can actually recommend this fragrance to anyone who has the confidence or the corresponding appearance, because honestly, I can’t imagine this scent on a 1.75m tall, slender man named Pierre... (no pun intended)
