A new perfume by Marc Gebauer for women and men, released in 2024. The scent is floral-fresh. Projection and longevity are above-average. It is still in production.

Iris Overdose
I really like most of Marc Gebauer's fragrances, but I couldn't bring myself to like Purple Flamingo, and I am actually pretty sad about that. If you're a fan of iris, this is an absolute iris overdose. I'm learning what "powdery" means in fragrances, and this definitely fits that category. And unfortunately, I usually want to scrub this off.

Although highly concentrated, with this one I get about seven hours. Which, since I'm not a fan, isn't an issue, but its projection is quite strong so points there.

Trust me when I say I'm trying to like this! It just makes my nostrils burn. It shares the DNA of Orange Flamingo, which I believe is where the rose lies with citric tones, but Purple Flamingo takes a different floral route the entire way.

I can't understand why this is priced at 30% higher than the rest of Marc's fragrances. It's not the longest-lasting nor the most unique. At any rate, this is my least favorite of his line. I definitely see the appeal for this, but it's just not for me.

From Orange to Iris in Purple: The fragrance comparison between Orange and Purple Flamingo.
Starting with strong iris notes, a fresh, floral scent reminiscent of all Accento Overdose and fresh laundry - the Purple Flamingo knocks you off your feet. Period.
You can really feel this intensity/ this POWER right away. The distinctly noticeable iris unites the entire base with partly (slightly) woody notes, musk, and a lot of "powderiness" into a harmonious overall picture.

The Orange Flamingo, on the other hand, impresses with its fresh and clean notes, which begin with an explosion of oranges. The combination of jasmine and lily of the valley dominates along with also (slightly) woody accords, before the fragrance transitions into a musk-based drydown. In contrast to the powdery Purple Flamingo, the Orange Flamingo presents itself as fresh and soapy clean with a characteristic "fresh laundry" character.

For me/my nose, the Purple Flamingo is more intense/nobler than its predecessor...
This is most likely due to the iris, which dominates the fragrance for several minutes, similar to Irisss by Xerjoff. So those who know the fragrance will have a rough idea of the direction it takes...

Despite its highly concentrated formulation, the fragrance still feels pleasant and envelops you all day long with its soothing freshie vibe.
The longevity leaves nothing to be desired, and the projection is extremely strong, filling the room.
I would even claim, beast mode.
!! BUT this is definitely the case with BOTH fragrances !!
Even on skin types where fragrances don't last long, the longevity of the Purple Flamingo is particularly impressive. Once applied in the morning, it accompanies you into the evening or even for several days afterward.
The extremely strong sillage and long-lasting durability make it an ideal choice - for anyone - looking for long-lasting fragrances.

No matter the occasion or time of day - both fragrances are perfect all-rounders.
In my opinion, they are more suited for spring and summer, as the heart notes of iris, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, and violet radiate a harmonious sensuality that is simply made for these mentioned seasons.

Overall, the Purple Flamingo is a luxurious and higher-quality alternative to the fresher Orange Flamingo. Those seeking a long-lasting & intense fragrance will find the Purple Flamingo to be just right. Especially for lovers of iris and orange notes as well as powdery freshness, the fragrance is an absolute must-have. But due to its exclusivity, it is also for collectors.

Anyone NOT into iris should definitely test the fragrance beforehand or go straight for the regular Orange Flamingo!
Please note: With a price of €279.00, the purple one is €79.00 more expensive than its predecessor due to its exclusivity and high-quality ingredients. So if you are not near Düsseldorf or cannot test it in-store - I would definitely recommend ordering a sample from the Souk.

In the end, one can simply say that Christian Carbonnel has done a great job here again and created a fragrance that can be worn 100% by both women and men.

So what now?!
Hello dear community, I want to keep my review short, but also painless… actually…. Whether that will succeed, I don’t think so. So let’s start with the comparison.

Basically, I don’t find the similarity between Purple Flamingo and Orange Flamingo to be that obvious. They really only share the fact that they can be classified as typical clean man scents/ detergent & fabric softener fragrances and are characterized as such. Both are therefore built on the same foundation, but they are fundamentally different in their development. With "Purple Flamingo | Marc Gebauer," the first thing that strikes me is the similarity to "L'Homme | Prada," which only lasts briefly, and the extreme explosion of iris that creates a real bubble gum vibe in the first second, which then drifts strongly towards fabric softener… so far so good. Later in the drydown, however, the PF reminds me quite strongly of "Irisss | XerJoff," which I didn’t expect at all, as "Irisss | XerJoff" is also quite complex.

This is not the case with "Orange Flamingo | Marc Gebauer." It neither strongly reminds me of a well-known fragrance nor does it develop over time. It remains very simple, straightforward, and linear; I would almost say it is particularly one-dimensional compared to others, while Purple Flamingo is also "simple" in its own way and is not exactly the most complex work in my opinion. The orange is very pleasant, but also intense. Light floral notes spread out without being too feminine… actually quite good.

However, longevity and sillage remain a topic. Orange Flamingo has tremendous power, strong longevity, and really brutal sillage; it lasts easily 8 hours with good projection and 12+ hours with good projection at a shorter distance. In contrast, Purple Flamingo is quite a bit weaker; its longevity was "only" 6 hours for me, after which it became more skin-close, and the sillage up to that point is really quite good, but it doesn’t come close to the Orange Flamingo.

However, we still need to discuss the price comparison. Orange Flamingo currently has a recommended retail price of €199.00 for 100ml, while Purple Flamingo is priced at €279.00 for the same amount. I would actually leave it at that, but I must say, for me personally, it’s not worth €280. Purple Flamingo is certainly a good fragrance, especially for all iris lovers, but based on the performance, which is significantly below that of "Orange Flamingo | Marc Gebauer," I see no reason to spend €280 on such a simple scent.

In conclusion, I can only say that I personally prefer the style and the unique scent DNA of the Orange Flamingo, which also fits much better for summer for me. The performance of Orange Flamingo is truly convincing, definitely better than that of "Purple Flamingo | Marc Gebauer," and the price difference of €80 for the same amount is much more bearable for me. Definitely try both, as Purple Flamingo is also a great fragrance; in the end, you have to decide what you prefer. For me, however, Orange Flamingo comes out on top.

Thank you for your attention, stay decent.

The Mature Flamingo
Recently, there were two releases that particularly piqued my curiosity, even though I knew full well that I am neither the target audience nor have any intention to purchase. One fragrance is Perseus by PdM, the other is Purple Flamingo, which is known to be available only at the Marc Gebauer store in Düsseldorf, beautifully located in the perfume Bermuda Triangle of the most beautiful city on the Rhine ;-)

But let's get straight to the point: Purple Flamingo surprises me in that it doesn't play it safe or aim for a young or youthful vibe, but rather comes across as a more adult, mature version of Orange Flamingo. Both fragrances work quite intensively with floral nuances alongside the orangey-citrus theme. In Purple Flamingo, particularly with a lot of powdery iris and a hint of violet. Jasmine and rose, as well as lily of the valley, are still somewhat reserved but present. Additionally, there’s a fine soapy base and minimal green and woody accents.

Purple Flamingo almost gives the impression that someone mixed the floral soaps of a great-grandmother into an Extrait de Parfum to create something new yet classic. This is not meant to be derogatory at all; in my opinion, it rather goes against the trend of overly sweet shower gel fragrances, making it bold and welcome. This step is certainly bolder than the release of Perseus, which I will delve into in another review. Otherwise, it would be like comparing apples to pears or oranges to iris.

I like this flamingo, which embodies maturity, calmness, and security, and relies on classic values. Nevertheless, I would not consider a purchase at all... and certainly not at that price. Still: Respect!

Dear Orange or Purple?
I don't need to convince anyone that the Orange Flamingo is an amazing scent. Perfect for spring/summer.

But what are the differences between the two?

Irisss!

For me, the Purple Flamingo clearly wins.

Imagine you are on vacation, you have booked an entire house right by the sea.
You wake up on a pleasant 25-degree day with a light cool, but not cold breeze.
You go out to the garden to the clothesline and grab a freshly washed T-shirt and put it on while it’s still slightly cold.
That’s exactly how the
Purple Flamingo by
Marc Gebauer smells.

Complete powdery iris inhale. If you like iris, try this out! Shares Orange Flamingo DNA but in a way I sadly don't like.

Der luxuriösere Orange Flamingo! Eine wahre Iris Bombe mit ähnlich guter Haltbarkeit und Sillage wie der Orange Flamingo. Compliment Getter

Due to the pyramid (iris in the top, heart, and base complemented by powdery notes), I had a pure iris powder feel-good - +

Great iris scent! :)
Much less orange than OF, yet still that clean fabric softener vibe + subtle hints of iris.

I usually appreciate the silvery-cool elegance of iris. Unfortunately, here it feels quite soapy & emotionless, wrapped in citrus fluff.

Purple Flamingo is the baby of Irisss and Orange Flamingo. The scent is like a layering of 30% Irisss and 70% Orange Flamingo. Top fragrance!

The main note of iris takes quite a while to appear. Before that, there's a burnt plastic scent mixed with citrus.
