Thierry Mugler Meets Willy Wonka

The enhancement smells as if someone dropped a closed fist full of melted Belgian chocolates into the original formula. The chocolate and cacao are very superior. I almost want to say... it's too much & the caramel enhancement in Alien wasn't enough. Angel Taste of Fragrance gives me the feel of Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia, only a lot richer and focused on that chocolate. I'm beginning to think the famous Chef who incorporated the gourmand note into this fragrance was Willy Wonka.

Angel rolling in cacao powder

To me, the Taste of Fragrance Angel starts low but finishes high.

The opening is like accidently spill out the cacao powder on one's face. Such an intense and fierce aroma. Then it quickly dissipates and unveils the patchouli-sweet chocolate combo in the original Angel. I was like, 'What?! That's all?! Just the original Angel hiding under a cacao coat?!'.

That's when the dark chocolate stands out and points my nose, 'Wait and smell!'. The patchouli and sweetness step back and let the dark chocolate play the game. I also get a subtle whiff of fruits like bergamot or passion fruit from time to time, which is a delightful surprise, as these fruity notes in the original Angel are often under the shadow of candy sweetness. After about 6 hours, the earthy patchouli mellows down, what's left on the skin is a cozy dark chocolate velvet cape. ToF compared to the original Angel is just like their bottle colour: a deep indigo blue of night compared to a brighter blue.

Among the Taste of Fragrance collection, Angel might not be as surprising as Womanity, which takes the scent to a whole new direction. However, Angel lives up to its name: deep, rich chocolate powder blended into the legacy of the original version.

The sillage is moderate and consistent for more than 12h. A fragrance of quality! However, I wouldn't recommend it if the patchouli combo in original version already bothers you, as the patchouli is still quite strong especially in the first few hours. But if you wished for a slightly less sweet version, this might be your Angel!

Close to the real Angel

For me this jewel is so so dynamic and strong, so equivalent to the Original Angel edp. EXTRA long lasting but I am afraid I can't detect the cacao/chocolate note which I was looking forward to. I would like to swap it with something less Angelish. Greek friends of Parfumo please welcome !!!!!!

The Christmas Angel, uh - Angel

Angel Le Gout is the super-clear cocoa version of the super gourmand. You have to like it, and as a chocoholic, I do.
The opening is so rich and chocolatey in the nose that you can almost taste the Lindor truffles on your tongue. That's a calorie saver.
The heart note weakens a bit, but that probably just seems so after the chocolate attack on the nostrils; there's a bit of peach and/or apricot to be found, but I don't notice any passion fruit, and that's fine because I always fear too much passion fruit, especially when it smells too artificial.
The base goes back to the roots, almost like the mother of all Angels. Dark-patchouli-caramel and very long-lasting.
Overall, less sweet than Mother Angel, but +/- 90% cocoa content....

Angel in Chocolate Coat

This review will be short and sweet, as there is - short and sweet - not much to say.

It clearly smells like Angel. Strong and beautiful, reminiscent of the old version. The whole thing is wrapped like a praline in cocoa powder. Funny. Somehow delicious. Not sugary at all, rather bitter chocolate with a high cocoa content. Unfortunately, the magic doesn't last long on my skin. After not even an hour, the chocolate dream has vanished. To be honest, I couldn't perceive much of the apricot. Gradually, the classic scent comes through. That's it!

The prices for this now discontinued limited edition are, of course, borderline. 35ml costs a staggering €199.00 on eBay (!!!). So please. Are there really people who pay that? It's not good enough to justify these exorbitant prices, I can assure you.
