Jasmine? Is that you?
Miroir des Envies is a very interesting fragrance, one that I've worn three days in a row in order to gather any kind of opinion on the way it smells and speaks to me.

It's a jasmine fragrance alright, there's no doubt about it, however it's not necessarily pretty or flowery. The jasmine blooms in this fragrance, have been burnt or roasted alongside an array of hazelnuts and cashews.

It has a rather smokey and foody quality, which leans towards being gourmand, but not in a sweet sense of the word. The scent of toast is pretty spot-on, as I find this fragrance more savoury than sweet.

Many are referring to this fragrance as being a little similar to Alien, also by the same house. I know they're both dominated by jasmine, however I find Alien far more refreshing and a touch more feminine. Miroir des Envies is quite daring and strange, perhaps the name Alien was more suited to this Mugler creation.

This fragrance brings to mind marmalade toast, cocoa powder, an assortment of unsalted nuts and burning plastic. It's very strange, at times a little unpleasant, yet overall the kind of fragrance that you can't stop inhaling and spritzing on just to experience the weirdness of it all.

The longevity is good, very long lasting, yet the sillage is quite intimate and soft. I also find the scent a little soapy at times, but it's not really a clean scent. It's really hard to describe.

Would you like some jasmine on your toast?
Borderline schizophrenic.

Where to start....

My boy-cat had smelly paws. They didn't smell cheesey or dirty, & they weren't even unpleasant to sniff, per se. I would often awake to find a large, black pad hovering above my lips, trying to steal my breath. My velvet theif had feet that smelt of clean, dusty fur, dry, pale biscuits, aga-toasted breadcrumbs & aged candle-wax. My feline friend also had a penchant for padding across window cills & shelves, knocking treasures onto the floor with his furry plus-fours & fancy tail, much to my chagrin.

On first sniff, Miroir des Envies is a black cat, sat alone licking its paws in a beautiful french renaissance bedroom. The room is ransacked, the Duchess lies dead. Confusion reigns around the little furry island of calm. What? Why? How?

The mirror tells a tale...pad, pad, pad. Smash! A bowl of toasted, sugared hazelnuts & almonds shatters. Bang! A tea tray of brown toast spread with honeycomb hits the floor. Crash! The jasmine plant is upended & the waxy buds scatter. Thud! A full bottle of Alien parfum falls heavily onto the sleeping beauty's head. Pad, pad, pad...

M des E is a twisted little scent dressed up as sweetness & light. It has many facets & yet it does not give up its secrets easily. No matter how much you may love & hate it (& you will, with equal measure) you will be compelled to keep sniffing, searching for its breadcrumb trails as it pads across your skin.

For me, it is not a scent I would comfortably wear even though I like loud, oddball perfumes....& yet I keep re-visiting my sample. I simply can't keep my paws off it.

M des E = Mad as a bag of cats - one to sample for curiosity & kicks.

Gourmand jasmine
Interesting fragrance, just as almost any in this discontinued line.

Its heart is a very strong almost synthetic jasmine, similar to the one in Alien, but even stronger and more futuristic. The background for it is a mixed scent of hot steel and fresh baguette pulp. The scent is not very complicated, but definitely interesting and original. Steel, bakery and jasmine.

I Love You to Bits!
Thierry Mugler is known for fragrances that polarize, which can be quite heavy and, above all, leave substantial clouds everywhere. It's difficult to get the dosage right with Mugler's scents; one tends to overdo it far too quickly. We already know this all too well from Angel or Alien. Somehow, this all belongs to T. Mugler, like coffee in the morning for most people. This seems to be his idea of fragrance - imposing, heavy, extremely sweet, and with a touch of recognizability.

This scent unfolds as a special gourmand temple. Very sweet, enveloped by lush flowers and with that unique warming note of freshly toasted bread. I perceive it as very exuberant at the beginning with a distinct sweet and heavy note. Honey mixed with Nutella, thickly spread on toast, accompanied by a large glass of milk. That's how one should imagine the start. The milky note lingers quite a while before jasmine joins in. Initially quite tame, over time it becomes increasingly intense, taking center stage and enveloping the top note. In the heart, Miroir becomes very balsamic, extremely warming, and naturally sweet. It has a gentle animalic and smoky note, though this remains in the background. Nevertheless, it is precisely the right dosage and fits perfectly into the concept. It leaves me after just one long day...

I associate well-being with this scent. You know, when you wake up well-rested and head to breakfast, devouring heaps of toasted bread with Nutella, washing it down with milk, while Pharrell's Happy plays in the background. The taste buds seem to explode at that moment. What an amazing feeling!

Yes, that's how Miroir is. Unfortunately, it is hardly known and not available everywhere. I only have a small sample of the fragrance, but I am incredibly impressed by what can be packed into a scent. It is unique in its form. Uniqueness should be highly valued, especially when it evokes such feelings in you :D

Toasted Bread with Jasmine??!!!
Miroir des Envies from the eponymous fragrance line by Thierry Mugler (Miroir, Miroir!) is one of my favorites among the 6 scents, even though I have never worn it "in the wild," but only at home for myself.

I love it - but I find it unsuitable for work, for going out, or for visiting friends or family.
So I wear it alone at home and enjoy it.
No, that's not negative, maybe a bit unusual, but I still think it's great.

Miroir des Envies (MdE) starts with a gourmand scent of fresh, toasted bread.
Yes, really! It smells a bit like toast that is just about to be done in the toaster. You can smell it everywhere in the house.

Alongside this is a light, subtle floral note, jasmine, and a kind of milk.

I already know this milk accord from Virgin No.1 from the "Das Coffret" collection (see my comment on that).
In Virgin No.1, this milk accord somehow represented purity and innocence, which worked very well.

Here in MdE, it is similar; the scent smells soft, pure, and innocent.
But due to the toasted bread, it is also gourmand and, through the flowers, sensual and a bit more seductive than Virgin No.1. (a bit more seductive does not mean that it smells scandalous..)

In the heart note, the jasmine comes out much stronger, but by no means as loud as in the top note of L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain.
It is softer, gentler, but not reserved or weak.
It is there, very clearly, but indeed softer in the scent facet.

Somehow it also smells vanilla-soft, as if one should lick their wrist right away.
It is a gourmand, but quite different from the usual Mugler gourmand scents.
It does not smell synthetic at all, not exaggerated, not intrusive, even though its longevity is phenomenal.
It easily lasts 12 hours on me.

The base then becomes softer, closer to the body, and gentler.
The toasted bread is only faintly detectable in the background, the jasmine even stronger, but totally soft.
Somehow, the scent of a lightly sweetened dessert lingers in the air, fine and elegant.
There are also a few freshly cut flowers in the room, which I can't quite identify.

Like all scents from the Miroir, Miroir! line, MdE is totally hard to describe; they are simply different.

In my opinion, MdE smells elegant.
I imagine a very well-groomed woman in her prime, who is also impeccably groomed at the breakfast table at home, but not over the top.
The scent swirls through the room and fascinates...

This is a weird doughy jasmine. Also has the first instance I recall of the now-common "solar" accord. Lovely.

Where's the toast bread? All I smell here is an unpleasant, sharp jasmine, almost like perm solution. Oh man :-(

A great caramel gourmand with pleasantly contrasting roasted aromas and a creamy, slightly indolic white floral note. Well done!

Sensuality in a bottle. Jasmine, creamy + beautiful, plus fresh warm toast. Unbelievably beautiful combo. Love at first sniff!

At first, it really is toast bread, which quickly fades away. Fast scent progression - in the end, roasted jasmine. Tasty but not a must-have.

BEAUTIFUL. Sweet, warm bread on my skin, delicately drizzled with jasmine. The first scent where I can truly recognize what's in it.
