A well-balanced gourmand

As a certified non-gourmand girlie, I absolutely love this one. A lot of the reviews here seem to be disappointed with the fragrance, when IMO, it’s the best vanilla ice cream/waffle cone scent that I’ve come across. You can’t blame influencers for making these type of scents when everyone and their mother nowadays is a gourmand/vanilla lover and all people ever want to smell like is dessert.

In comparison to IA A Whiff of A Waffle Cone, this one is less syrupy and stomach churning. While IA’s is full-on maple sap from a tree, MC is sweet without crossing too far into the sickeningly sweet territory, and I think it’s because of the added bergamot, amber, and woodiness. I also see comparisons to V28, which I can see, but this one is more vanilla, while V28 is more amber and burnt brown sugar (+ earthiness from the patchouli). MC’s dry down reminds me a lot of Kayali’s Silk Santal but less powdery. I’m really loving this one more and more with each wear, and it think it’s a great scent on its own but would layer like a dream with some of my woody scents!

The performance is great on my skin, lasting well of 7-8+ hours and projecting moderately well with good application. It’s definitely a cold weather scent that can be worn day or night. Some may find it “basic,” but trust me, this is far from basic (especially when fragrances like Escapade Gourmande exist). It may not be groundbreaking, but it sure is a stunner. The bottle is also gorgeous and the quality is on par with that of Navitus. I’m not familiar with Ms. Sharida’s content, but congrats to her and this excellent fragrance.

Great toffee-rich, creamy, smooth, resinous gourmand

This is my first proper sampling of Mahni Cassonade, one of the most recent releases from Navitus Parfums, a mostly-gourmand with a prominent toffee note that comes off as syrupy to me, reminiscent of breakfast syrup and waffles or pancakes, even. It’s quote smooth, creamy, resinous, a bit dark, and super strong, with supportive gourmand notes of brown sugar and vanilla ice cream as well as amber and amberwood.

The robust toffee component is reminiscent of Absolutio, part of the initial collection from Navitus in late 2019, and still my favorite of the line, though it has other aspects that distinguish it from Mahni Cassonade. Still, there’s some commonality to be considered, and I probably ought to do a side by side comparison,

Overall, this is excellent and very enjoyable, especially for a gourmand fan that enjoys the syrupy, resinous, toffee intersection that it’s in play in Mahni Cassonade. It’s high-performing, as the line generally tends to be, in high extrait concentration.

The pricing is the highest of the brand both in terms of overall bottle price and cost per ml, at $295 for 125ml, but I imagine it’s sometimes on sale. As with the rest of the line, it’s sold via the house site as well boutiques like Perfumology, where I bought my sample.

Mahni Cassonade

Melting vanilla ice cream with toffee sauce, dipped in brown sugar. A deliciously sweet, smooth, and warm gourmand. Projection is moderate tending strong, longevity around 6-8 hours on my skin before it’s barely discernible. Very cosy vibes, and probably better suited to autumn/winter than spring/summer. I’m enjoying it and would wear again, but the $295 price tag is crazy for something that, when you really get down to it, smells like a scented candle.

Unexpected Surprise

For days I was looking forward to your launch. Your notes led me to conclude that you would be the absolute vanilla gourmand, as you were actively promoted. A countdown was even created so that I wouldn't miss you. Then the day came. Phew, almost 300 euros for a blind buy was definitely worth considering. But in my search for my perfect vanilla gourmand, that thought quickly faded. After 2 weeks of waiting, you finally arrived. Full of anticipation, I opened the packaging. Just your bottle is already beautiful..
Then came the first spray.
Expectantly, I sniffed at my arm.. Oh, what is this, I thought to myself, not at all what I expected. A very strong rum note hit me right away. But not sweet rum, rather a bitter, strong rum. Well, let's wait and see.
After a while, I took another sniff. The rum had noticeably mellowed. Slowly, the scent became sweeter and more pleasant. It also developed a complex depth that is hard to describe. I guess it’s the amber in the base note.

My conclusion: Unfortunately, it hasn't become my dream scent. It works well for layering with a very sweet fragrance (my favorite for that is Xerjoff - Lira).
The longevity on clothing is quite good, 7/10.
The sillage is mediocre. So far, none of my colleagues have complained about how sweet it smells here (almost all are perfume opponents who don't like sweet scents).
If you have the opportunity, please make sure to test it beforehand; you definitely expect something different with those scent notes.

Brown Sugar Meets Toffee in Vanilla Ice Cream

This is actually how I imagined the Vanilla Toffee from Swiss Arabian. Mahni Cassonade Extrait de Parfum starts off a bit smoky, buttery, toffee to the power of 3, almost reminiscent of caramel popcorn without the grain note. This fragrance takes a few minutes for the vanilla and amber wood to come through. This is a perfume extract. I personally do not perceive bergamot. For me, there is always a salty note coming through. Now it comes to mind: I actually had a sugar-free waffle in France. Goffre sans Sucre??? The seller even asked me! Well, and on this unsweetened waffle, we now pile vanilla ice cream with toffee and brown sugar. Are you full now?
